Abstract

Carbon products are formed by compressing a mixt. of tar, pitch, and finely divided coke, and microcrystalline cellulose added in sufficient quantity to improve the distribution of the mixt. under compression but 2 wt. % of the above mix, and the mixt. is compressed. A water sol. gum may also be added in amt. 5-25% of the wt. of cellulose used. The articles formed are carbonised and opt. graphitised. Bodies made from the mix have improved density and strength characteristics.
