Abstract

A sealed autoclave containing dye fluid has a vertical cylinder arranged at its lower end in which is mounted a piston, and yarn packages are carried on vertical tubular supports above the cylinder. As the piston reciprocates fluid is alternately forced radially outwardly through the packages, and pref. heat exchangers are provided in the cylinder above and below the piston to selectively heat fluid which has passed radially outwardly or radially inwardly. Fluid is forced cyclically through the packages at high frequencies, and selective heating can produce a variety of treatment conditions.
