Abstract
Mixtures stable in air under usual conditions, but can be activated by heat, pressure, light or electron beam contain:- (A) a 2,2',4,4',5,5'-hexaaryldiimidazole in which the aryls have 1- or 2-rings opt. with substituents inert to B having Hammet p-sigma value -0.5 to +0.8 and without Zerewitinoff H; and (B) and oxidisable component, normal oxidation potential =1.35 V relative to standard calomel electrode, chosen from certain p-arylenediterarylamines,, p-phenylenediamines, iminohydrazides and N-acyl derivatives, o,o'-disubstituted phenols and organic HS-compounds. Component (A) oxidises (B) when activated by free radicals. Applications include photography, thermographic reproduction, dyeing of materials, and removal of undesirable odours.
