<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
@
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Circuit breaker with maximum current protection and differential protection"
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The invention relates to a circuit breaker with any number of poles, comprising a maximum current protection, which causes the interruption of the electric current in the event of overload or short-circuit, as well as a differential protection, which causes the current to be interrupted in the event of an insulation fault in the protected installation, such a circuit breaker also comprising a manual control device enabling the circuit breaker to be brought into the engaged position or into the tripped position, each these positions therefore being indicated by a corresponding position of this control member.
Circuit breakers of this type find frequent applications as circuit breakers with high breaking capacity and reduced bulk, which are also of particular interest for the present invention.
Such a circuit breaker is brought into the engaged position by said manual control member and is held in this position by a latching generally comprising a pawl mechanically connected to said control member and bearing, in the engaged position, on a movable support member which is moved under the action of movement of a trigger, during an overload or a short, rolls; to produce the un-ratching, that is to say, releasing said pawl and allowing tripping of the circuit breaker under the action of elastic means which are opposed to the latching.
This triggering also produces the return of the manual control member to its triggered position and can moreover be obtained by acting; directly on this organ.
In circuit breakers of this kind, it is desirable to be able to distinguish, when tripping occurs, whether the tripping has been caused by an overload or a short-circuit, or whether it is due to a fault in the circuit. isolation in the installation or actuation of the manual control device.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The invention aims to provide such a circuit breaker with an indicator means making it possible to realize what kind of triggering is. To this end, it provides for the circuit breaker to include an indicator means which is only actuated, so as to become perceptible from the outside, when tripping is caused by an overload or a short-circuit, while it is not. is not actuated, and therefore remains invisible, when tripping is caused by the differential protection or by manual control. The circuit breaker can also be provided with a second indicating means which is integral with a member carrying a moving contact, so as to become visible on each trip.
In an advantageous embodiment, said movable support for the pawl is pressed with elastic pressure against a stop integral with the trigger, this movable support also cooperating with a member which moves it, against said elastic pressure, when the protection differential comes into action.
In a particular embodiment, the special indicating means, which is only moved in the event of an overload or a short circuit, is carried by one end of a lever which is mounted to pivot around it. 'a fixed axis and has a stop cooperating with a counter-stop resting on the trigger, this lever being subjected to the action of elastic means which tend to bring said special indicator means into the triggering position and press said said abutment against said counter-stop, which releases this stop, and therefore said special indicating means, just before the trigger reaches its trigger position.
Other features and advantages of the invention emerge from the description of an exemplary embodiment which will be given below with reference to the schematic drawings.

15 of the movable armature 16 of an electromagnet, the coil 17 of which is traversed by the current and is connected to the fixed contact 18. The armature 16 advantageously has a rod-shaped extension 19 which can strike the arm. 4 to accelerate the opening of the contacts in the event of a short circuit. The arm 4 is connected by a conductor 20 to a thermal tripping bimetal 21 which is traversed by 1 .: current flowing between the terminals A and B.
A lever 22 pivoting on a fixed axis 23, is supported by a stop 24 on the trigger 13 and has a beak 25 forming a support for a stop 26 forming part of a lever 27 pivoting on a fixed axis 28 and carrying a special indicator 29. A spring 30 presses the stop 24 against the trigger 13 and the stop 26 against the spout 25, and tends to bring the indicator 29 opposite a window 31 in the circuit breaker housing.
A second indicator 32 is attached to the arm 4.
The lever 9 has a lug 33 intended to receive a thrust from a member which is moved when the differential protection comes into action as a result of an insulation fault.
This push moves the lever 9 and thus triggers the trip. This can be done, for example, using the mechanism illustrated. The usual relay 34 of a differential protoction system comprises an Armature 35 which remains stuck by the action of a constant magnet 36 'but takes off and falls, aided by the spring 37, when the secondary court in the winding 36, due to an insulation defect, reaches the expected value. Going down, the frame 35 swivels a lovior 38 around a fixed axis 39 and moves the lovior 9 to release the pawl 6 (Fig. 3 , 4).
Then, the spring 40 causes the opening of the contacts and the spring 41 returns the lever 1 to the trigger position 0, the indicator 32 appearing in the window 31 (FIG. 5).
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
During the release, an extension 42 of the pivot 7 is raised and allows a lever 43 to pivot about a fixed axis 44 under the action of a spring 45. A spout 46 provided for the lever 43 acts '-' then on 1 .: lever 38 to lift the armor and thus reset relay 34 (Fig. 5).
On manual triggering, see read, by returning switch 1 to position 0, the position shown in Fig. 5, without the lever 9 and the parts associated with the differential relay 34 having moved.
To reset the circuit breaker and return the assembly to the position shown in Figure 1, simply return handle 1 to position I.
In the event of a short-circuit, the armature 16 is attracted by the coil 17 and its shoulder 15 lifts the trigger 13, which pivots around the axis 14, its arm 12 starting to move the lever 9. A little before the trigger 13 has reached its trigger position, therefore a little before the lever 9 has released the pawl 6, the nose 25 of the stop 24, which has been driven by the trigger, releases the stop 26, so that the lever 27, by pivoting under the action of the spring 30, allows the indicator 29 to follow the movement of the indicator 32 and to appear in front of the window 31.
Immediately after the release of the stop 26, the trigger 13 causes the release of the pawl 6 and therefore the trigger, causing the indicator 29 is also brought in front of the window 31. This release is accelerated by the fact that the rod 19 also acts on the arm 4 of the movable contact 3.
The indicator 29 can be provided with an opening 47 to make the indicator 32 more visible. This brings up the position shown in Figure 6. This can also be reached on surohargo lentu, except that in this case the position shown in FIG. bimetallic strip 21 raises the trigger 13, while the frame 16 remains in place.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
When the circuit breaker is then reset using handle 1, indicator 32 acts on a tab 48 integral with lever 27 which moves the stop: 26 to release the spout 25 d .: the stop 24 which is brought back contact with the trigger 13 under the action of the spring 30 acting on the lever 22.
It is ensured that the indicator system according to the invitation practically does not disturb the operating characteristics of the device because the special indicator 29 is not activated in the event of tripping by the differential protection, which is above all useful in the case of high sensitivity circuit breakers, because of the very low energies available in such cases, for example around 250 microwatts.
It goes without saying that various constructive modifications can be made to the embodiment of the invention, the embodiment illustrated having been given only by way of demonstration.
