<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

"Improvements made to creping yarn 8%
The present invention relates to an apparatus for creping textile yarns and finishing textile fabrics and relates more particularly to an improved apparatus for creping textile yarns composed of synthetic materials. The invention is also implemented for creping yarns made of natural and animal fibers.
The invention provides an apparatus for the abovementioned purpose, which comprises on the one hand an endless flexible element, part of the length of which is in reciprocal contact.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
with a movable element, at least one of said elements having a fluted outer shape, and on the other hand a member for heating the contact zone of the two elements * and a member for introducing the textile material (thread or fabrics ) between the lengths of said elements in reciprocal contact.
Conveniently, two endless elements are provided, one of which can be controlled such that one of these elements is driven by the movement of the other. Alternately, the two endless elements are controlled so that the reciprocal contact areas have the same linear speed.
In another construction, only the endless flexible element is provided, the movable element being made in the form of a cylindrical element equipped with control members and to which, if necessary, a quantity of heat is supplied.
The endless element has a fluted shape and extends over part of the peripheral surface of the cylindrical element.
The endless element may itself adopt a fluted shape and consist of a flexible fluted strip or preferably consist of several link chains provided with support lugs * fixed on these links, Fluted elements, extending over the entire distance between the two chains, are subject to the support legs.
The elements, which extend over the entire distance between the two chains, can for example be produced in the form of an extrusion obtained from a conventional alloy, such as for example a known alloy of magnesium and aluminum. .
L-shaped support legs can be attached to the side links of the chains and the splined extrusions can be releasably secured to these links by nuts, bolts or the like.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Conveniently the endless elements are in control connection with each other and are located in an enclosure which can be heated to the desired temperature and which, if necessary, can be increased to a higher pressure. re atmospheric pressure.
Alternatively, heating or other coils are located in the area of movement of the endless elements.
These heating coils can be operated electrically or, if necessary, with the aid of steam.
The apparatus is particularly suitable for creping yarns and fabrics and, during creping of yarns, the ends of the latter are easily introduced into a constriction provided between the two movable elements. The ends of the yarns assume identical subrrance shapes. To the grooves of the endless elements and due to the heat, these yarn ends are kept in this deformed state and consequently give rise to a crimped yarn. Alternatively, a crepe fabric can be made. At the exit, the ends of the son are wound on receiving members, such as spools for example.
In order that the present invention be more easily understood, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective view of a construction according to the present invention; Figure 2 is a schematic perspective view of another construction according to the present invention; Figure 3 is another schematic perspective view of a modified form of construction according to the present

Inventions Figure 4 shows a detailed view of a spline member according to the present invention.
Referring firstly to Figure 1, it is housed in a boot 1, two endless elements 1 and 1 controlled by cylinders ± and supported at certain distances by tension rollers 5. Each of the endless elements .2 and .1 is in a fluted form and is made of stainless steel or chrome steel. One or more of the cylinders 4, the surfaces of which are grooved, have been controlled so as to drive the endless elements ?, and 3. The! Il 8 is taken from a supply spool 9, brought through a guide slot 10 made in the comb 11 and then introduced into the constriction formed by the endless elements 2 and 3.
The pressure that the wire undergoes in the grooves of the endless elements ?, and 3 engaging one in the other gives it a wavy shape. Due to the heat applied to this device, the proper adjustment of the length of the endless elements ?, and 2.and the speed of movement of the latter, the wire is brought to a wavy state exits in the forms shown in point 7.and is wound onto a receiving member, in order to form a spool of thread 6.
If necessary, positive control devices can be provided, for the ends of the fila, between the comb 11 and the elements without end 2, and .1. that is to say, members acting on the wire at point 8, so as to provide for the insertion of the wire into the constriction provided between the two endless elements. If necessary also, the pressure prevailing inside the boot 1 can be increased and, if necessary, a certain quantity of steam or the like can be used during the transformation treatment.
As a cutter, if necessary, only one of the bandaged 2 or 3
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
is provided with grooves, the other strip being substantially flat. Therefore, the wire is deformed by the pressure of a grooved strip acting on a flat strip. Instead of the endless elements 2 and 3 having a regular fluted shape, it is possible to manufacture these in such a way that a flat belt has upright blades applied thereon. The arrangement must be made so that the blades of one strip fit into the voids existing between the adjacent strips of the other strip.
Referring now to Figure 2, the drawing shows a triangularly formed frame, made of angular elements 41 which support the axis 46 of the cylindrical drum 42. The outer and inner peripheral surface of the drum 42 is grooved, so that this drum can be controlled by rods 43 also having a corresponding fluted peripheral surface. An endless element 45 partially surrounds the outer peripheral surface of the drum ± ±. The endless element 45 is kept under tension so that it is in reciprocal contact with the outer surface of the cylinder 42 by the longitudinal rods 44, the shape of which is similar to the control rods 43.
The endless element 45 can itself be made of stainless steel or any other suitable material adopting a corrugated shape, so that this element cooperates with the outer grooves of the cylinder 42.
Alternatively, the endless element 45 may have a planar or band-like shape and be stretched relative to the outer surface of the cylinder 42, so as to form a constriction between the grooves and the band, in order to force thus the fabrics and the textile threads to adapt in a manner conforming to the grooves of the cylinder 42.
In accordance with the present invention, members are provided for the rotation of the cylinder 42 and therefore
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
for controlling the strip 45, in particular on the part where there is reciprocal contact with the cylinder 42. There are furthermore provided members for heating the place where the two elements are in reciprocal contact, so that the wire textile 47. which eet introduced between the two elements in contact, leaves the other side in a crimped or fluted form 48.
The heat of the contact point and the speed of movement are controlled such that the temperature to which the textile material is subjected to be transformed into a fluted state. is lower than that necessary for devices known to date.
Referring now to Figures 3 and 4, a chamber, formed of frame members 1, is suitably lined with sheets. Two flexible endless members 2, and 3 are mounted to move on sprockets. 14 and 15 fixed at one end and eur pinions 16 and 17 housed at the other end. the endless elements are made up of two links 34 made up of links 35 each having an L-shaped support tab. The support tab 39 may be an integral part of the links or may be fixed by riveting or point welding.
The L-shaped support leg 23. has an opening 39a formed in this leg and allowing the introduction of a bolt II penetrating through an opening 36a provided in the edge of the element.
These elements 38 have a fluted shape and consist of a suitable alloy of magnesium and aluminum and are made by extrusion. The elements are then cut to the desired length and their end is machined until a flat 36 is obtained and an opening 36a is finally made. The bolts 37 pass through the openings 36a and secure the splined members 36 to the chains. The endless elements are controlled by gears 16 and 17.
The pinion 16 is mounted on a shaft 20
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
which carries a gear 21 driving by control another gear 23 mounted on a shaft 25. The pinion 17 this also mounted on the shaft and a second gear 24, placed on this shaft, drives by control a gear 31 disposed on a shaft of intermediate transmission 32 and driving by control the gear 30 mounted on the shaft 28. This shaft 28 carries a gear 27 driving by control a pinion 22 disposed on the end of the shaft of a motor 26.
Two guide cylinders 13 are provided between the two flexible elements 2, and ±, so that the uncrimped wire 8 is guided, on the one hand, in the constrictions formed by the cylinders 13 and by the flexible elements 2 and 1 and , on the other hand, through the zone of mutual contact of these flexible elements which are heated by the heating coil 18 connected to the electrical panel 19. The pinions 52 ensure the reciprocal contact of the endless elements.
The wire 8 is introduced between the cylinders 13, then passes over the reciprocal contact area of the endless elements and comes out in the form of a crimped and transformed wire 1 which is wound on a spool. If the thread is made of nylon, the speed of this thread is adjusted so that it is in contact with the fluted elements for 1/10 to 1/15 of a second and the surface temperature of these elements is set at 200 C about. Alternatively, in the case of high vapor pressure, for example 25 psi (1.75 kg / cm2), the temperature can be reduced to 135 ° C.
If necessary, intermittent crimping of the yarn can be achieved by removing some fluted sections, so that adjacent parts of the yarn are not crimped, or alternatively by periodically interrupting the supply of heat to the fluted elements, so that the yarn , although fluted, is not processed hot in this state. The files
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
intermittently creped are those in which the creping is irregular. In some circumstances it may be desirable to treat the yarn prior to creping with the aid of a blowing agent, such as, for example, an aqueous solution of phenol.
The effect of the blowing agent is to increase the effective diameter of the yarn and therefore "swell" the yarn. During this operation, the wire passes through a tank containing the solution ,,
The apparatus according to the present invention is particularly advantageous in that several ends of yarns can be processed simultaneously and the temperature at which the ends of yarns are crimped is uniform for all of them. this.
Another advantage of the apparatus according to the present invention, over known apparatus for treating yarns in a crimped form, is that due to the longer time required for crimping the yarn, the temperature desired for the processing of the yarn can be reduced, which consequently leads to a decrease in possible and possible damage to the yarn.
During the printing or finishing of textile fabrics, corresponding male or female dies of a flexible and endless nature must be provided, so that the fabrics are subjected, on the one hand, to deformation caused by dies and, on the other hand, to a heat treatment the duration of which is longer than that of conventional methods of finishing fabrics using heated rolls.
It is believed that the present invention provides a novel apparatus particularly suitable for creping all textile fibers.
