<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"HIGH YIELD BRULKUR FOR GAS OOMBUBTI HLES"
It arises that in the usual burner using gaseous fuels like town gas, natural gas and others, the most delicate problem is that of the mixture, 0 in the optimum proportions., Of the fuel and the oxidizer. in general ,
the fuel gas is delivered by an Injector which opened at 1 * inlet * of a pipe of greater width and in which! the gas jet creates a vacuum causing the oxidizing gas,
normally the ambient air * The gas mixture is then distributed by an often circular ramp and pierced with a sort of holes beyond which combustion occurs. Such a device is very sensitive to the gas inlet pressure and the correct dosage of the mixture is only ensured within a very limited pressure range * An increase in efficiency is practically impossible because when the flow rate increases,
the entrainment or combustion gas becomes insufficient and unburned gas is rejected by the appliance, something which can be very serious in the case of burners not connected to a path ...
In a first device forming the subject of Belgian patent 621 904, the inventor proposed a burner in which the mixture
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
gas is set in a vortex rotational movement in the annular space formed by two concentric cylinders, the outside of which forms the body of the burner. The inlet pipe enters said annular space and terminates at the height of the radius which is perpendicular to it, its diameter is equal to the width = of the annular space. A helical ramp channels the gases into the burner and avoids, to a certain extent, the forma *. uproar.
The inner cylinder opens, from below, into the open air, which allows some additional entry of fresh air. The exhaust holes for the gas mixture, provided in the upper part of the outer cylinder or in a cap surmounting the latter are designed so that the gas outlet takes place substantially tangentially to the burner, which orifies a vortex movement having in order to prevent too sudden a suction of the ambient air, which, in the event of a high outlet speed of the mixture, would keep the flames away from the burner.
Subsequent research led the inventor to develop a burner externally retaining an aspedt usez similar to that of the first model, but by contra-appealing to a series of different principles.
The apparatus consists essentially of an injector, of known type, for the arrival of the combustible gas and which opens at the inlet of the inlet pipe which has a constriction according to the well-known principle of the venturi. The local acceleration, thus obtained, of the gas stream creates a depression effect which entrains all the more outside air as the speed of the incoming gas is high, which results in a possibility of a significant increase in the flow rate, therefore the efficiency of the burner.
The tubing does not enter the burner chamber, but has its end profiled so as to exactly follow the shape of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the. wall. In this manner, nothing opposes the free swirling movement of the gas mixture in the burner chamber.
The mixture is released through a series of openings
Spared in the upper part of the burner body These side openings are profiled ... in such a way that the gauze jet = exits slightly obliquely and their total surface is calculated as (of the order of magnitude or slightly greater than that of the inlet pipe) that the gas velocity does not expose the flame to separation *
On the other hand, the tests carried out led to the conclusion that the optimum outlet diameter of the tubing should be substantially equal to half the diameter of the chamber.
Under these conditions we obtain a maximum auxiliary effect of depression in the center of the burner canker, that is to say in what one could call the "eye of the cyclone *. This additional depression further helps the call for fresh air, possibly through a small hole in the center of the burner base *
In order to bring out the above description more clearly, the appended drawings show, by way of example and without limitation, an embodiment of a burner according to the principles of the invention.
1 this effect, Figure 1 shows, partially in horizontal section, the burner of the invention. FIG. 2 is a vertical section along the diameter of the burner parallel to the axis of the pipe.
Figure 3 is a view of the cover in the inverted position,
Referring to the figures, the combustible gas leaves the injector 1 connected to the source of the gas by a pipe not shown. det injector is placed in the center and in

sight of the inlet pipe 2 having a constriction 3 forming a venturi.
The pipe opens at 4 into the body 9 consisting of a cylindrical chamber with round 5, the upper part of the body is provided with a circular shoulder 7 which receives a ring 8 of 1-shaped section including the. branch forming an inner rim 9 is pierced with a series of small orifices 10 whose height is slightly greater than that of the shoulder so that the ring does not rest, by its horizontal rim 11 on the upper edge of the body 5 , but leaves a small annular slot 12. A small rim 13 at the base of the rim 9 allows the ring 8 to be centered relative to the body 5, while maintaining an annular space 14 between the ring and the body.
The orifices 10 are thus maintained in communication with the exterior of the burner. on the ring 8 is placed the cover 15 of the burner. Oe cover consists of a thick carrier disc, on its lower periphery, teeth 16 of substantially triangular section. These teeth leave between them as many conduits 17, preferably wider than they are high and having, in section, the form of small conical injectors with an axis inclined in the direction of rotation of the gases in the burner, their rear face relative to said direction. of rotation being substantially radial to the burner, while their front face makes, in said direction of rotation, an acute angle with the tangent to the burner at their point (the intersection with the outer circumference of the latter.
On leaving ducts 17. the mixture burns, forming flames. If necessary, oblique grooves 18 cut into the thickness of the cover help to direct the jet of gas entering the corresponding orifice. Small tabs 19, or other suitable arrangement, serve to hold the cover 15 on the body 5.
As the appliance is fitted with an injector with a diameter appropriate to the gas used, the passage of the latter through the tubu-

The amount of air sucked in will therefore be a function of the speed at which the gas arrives, and therefore of the flow rate for a given injector diameter. This allows correct, practically automatic maintenance of the riohoses of the mixture.
The d: f.meJ1iionn8me = relative of the 1n.cteu and the tubing was experimentally determined with a view to achieving the above condition * In particular, the diameter of the outlet of

Part of the mixture passes through the orifices 10 and thence through the crown 12 at the exit of which they are ignited.
