<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
L'invention s'étend à toutes ces exécutions générale- ' ment quelconques. C'est donc sans aucune restriction d'aucune sorte qu'une réalisation selon l'invention est décrite ci-après en se référant aux dessins annexés dans lesquels. la figure 1 représente, en vue perspective, un tronçon de trois éléments constitutifs de l'armature d'une lame de res- sort selon l'invention; la figure 2 représente, en vue perspective avec coupe partielle, un tronçon de lame de ressort selon l'invention; la figure 3 représente, en vue perspective, une lame de ressort selon l'invention;
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
figure 5, la lame de ressort selon l'invention se présente tous la forme d'un élément mince 7, rectangulaire, dont les cotée ont des dimensions dans la proportion de 1 à 2 et dont les quatre;

"Springs and their manufacturing process".
This invention relates to springs and more specifically to bending-loaded leaf springs and torsion-loaded bars. These springs are traditionally made of special steel, which is also called spring steel.
The applications of such springs are as diverse as they are numerous in all kinds of machines, vehicles, mechanics, etc.
The essential drawbacks of spring steels with modern technology can be summed up in substance as follows! the modulus of elasticity in bending is very high which results in less energy absorption and, therefore *
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
as for an elastic limit which, while already being high, nevertheless becomes insufficient.
On the other hand, it is frequently necessary, in the use of spring steel for bending blades, to stack several blades to obtain sufficient bending, the breaking load of the steel not being sufficient either. - efficient for many current applications,
Steel is also criticized for its relatively high weight and, above all, the constraints caused by oxidation and the necessity that this entails of having to watch, maintain and protect the springs in many cases of application. tion.
The object of the present invention is to significantly modify this traditional technique by systematically eliminating all the drawbacks which have just been pointed out, that is to say by making more elastic, lighter springs available to manufacturers and definitively eliminating the problems. due to oxidation and exhibiting fatigue failure in principle zero, resulting in a noticeable extension of the life, respectively of normal use, of the springs.
A first object of the invention consists in producing the springs specially intended to resist bending or torsional forces from reinforced resin and more particularly from epoxy polyester resin or others reinforced with glass fibers.
Another object of the invention consists in producing such springs so that, in their thickness, the constituent materials are determined as a function of the essential stresses to which they will have to resist. For this purpose, the zone of the blade, in line with the neutral fiber, will be conditioned in such a way as to present a maximum resistance to the forces other than the bending forces which occur, in particular during handling and assembly or repair operations. assembly) in the two zones arranged on either side of this central material materializing, in a way, the neutral fiber will be
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
arranged the materials intended to present a maximum resistance to bending forces and,
finally ,, the spring supplemented by a coating mass such that practically no void remains, the spring having a tight texture.
Another object of the invention consists in applying, as a material intended to oppose maximum resistance to forces other than bending forces, to the monks a layer of non-oriented glass fibers or equivalent; as material of the tinée to oppose a maximum resistance to bending forces, on either side of the aforesaid middle layer, at least one layer of glass fibers or equivalent oriented parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spring and, as material of bonding and coating of these different layers, an epoxy polyester resin or other,
The characteristics of the glass fibers and the coating resin,
the number and dimensions of the reinforcement layers as well as the conditions under which the various consti. The number of springs to be used are variable in proportion to the types of springs to be executed, themselves being determined by the requirements of the applications for which they are intended.
The invention extends to all such generally arbitrary embodiments. It is therefore without any restriction of any kind that an embodiment according to the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawings in which. FIG. 1 represents, in perspective view, a section of three constituent elements of the frame of a spring blade according to the invention; FIG. 2 represents, in perspective view with partial section, a section of the leaf spring according to the invention; FIG. 3 represents, in perspective view, a leaf spring according to the invention;
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
FIG. 4 represents in cross section a torsion bar according to the invention; FIG. 5 represents, in perspective view, a particular leaf spring according to the invention.
In this embodiment, the reinforcement is made by a layer;, of felt or of non-oriented fiberglass fabric, for example a glass cloth. On either side are arranged layers 2-3 of a fabric or duly oriented glass fibers.
Said reinforcement 1 is intended to increase the resistance to bending, respectively to transverse twisting of the blade, while the layers 2-3 of oriented fibers are intended to give the blade maximum resistance to longitudinal bending. The framework thus produced is impregnated and coated with a polyester resin, the whole being conditioned in such a way as to give all the external parts of the blade 5, as shown in figure 3, a perfectly smooth appearance and to continue the texture. of the blade itself being continuous and perfectly tight.
The blade thus described and illustrated in Figures 1 to 4 is a flexion blade,
The same technique can be applied for the execution of round bars or any other section intended to work in torsion. Such an execution is summarily schematized in; cross section in FIG. 4, in which there is the core 1 of non-oriented fibers; in contact therewith, the concentric layer of oriented fibers ?, and the impregnation and enveloping resin 4, the whole being conditioned in such a way as to produce a tightly textured torsion bar 6.
As in the previous example, for multiple particular applications, one could alternate layers of unoriented fibers and layers of oriented fibers.
In the particular embodiment shown in
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
FIG. 5, the leaf spring according to the invention is all in the form of a thin rectangular element 7, the sides of which have dimensions in the proportion of 1 to 2 and of which the four;
corners are provided with a passage hole, respectively 8,9,10,11, for the fixing elements,
It is noteworthy that, at equal dimensions, the flexural modulus of elasticity of a spring according to the invention being of the order of 4,000; that is to say + 5 times less than that of stripping, we obtain, according to this new technique, springs five times more elastic.
If) for example, we consider a spring saw having a tensile strength of the order of 200 kg / mm2, the Applicant has established that, for example, a bending blade according to the invention, for the same type of rupture and the same bending moment, will absorb about 2.5 times more energy than steel. The consequence of this observation is that, for example, in cases where the presence of steel would require the use of a plurality of stacked blades to obtain sufficient bending, the mother result will be obtained by the use of 'a single blade according to the invention.
It has also been established that the springs according to the invention, with equal dimensions and performance, will generally have a weight of the order of 4.5 times less than that of steel.
The process for the production of springs according to the invention will consist essentially in correctly and opportunely placing the layers of glass fibers, respectively non-oriented and oriented, and in applying the resin in such a way that it fills practically all. the interstices between the reinforcing fibers and coats them in a total manner without any break in continuity.
The invention relates to any generally arbitrary springs and their method of manufacture substantially as disclosed herein.
