<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The present invention relates to an improved lock for doors and other uses of the known type 'comprising a bolt movable in translation carrying a locking device elastically held in engagement with a complementary part integral with the housing of the lock and a key suitable for securing , by its simple introduction into the lock and without rotation, this locking device and this additional part o This improved lock, of very simple construction and of a reduced cost price, usable in particular for landing doors for access to apartments and other locks accessible from both sides is characterized in that the bolt and the housing are drilled right through, for the passage of the key,
which for the purpose of unlocking can therefore be introduced indifferently by one or the other of the faces of the lock, the opening formed in the bolt and containing the locking device having in the direction of movement of this bolt exactly the dimension that presents the key in this direction while the openings made opposite in the two large faces of the housing are formed by two slots parallel to this direction and of length such that after the bolt has been unlocked by the introduction of the key through the 'one of these slots, this key which then forms an integral part of this bolt makes it possible, by a translation of said key, to move the bolt in said direction between its two extreme positions of closing and opening.
This lock therefore does not require any rotation of the key for its operation and is therefore extremely simple to use compared to that of conventional locks offering the same security.
Preferably and according to another characteristic, a single locking device carried by the bolt is combined with two complementary parts carried by the housing and located so that the bolt can be locked, at will, by one or the other. of these parts, in its two extreme positions by the simple extraction of the key and conversely unlocked by its introduction at one or the other of the ends of any one of the slots of the housing.
Other characteristics will result from the description which follows.
In the accompanying drawing, given only by way of example: FIG. 1 is a front view of the lock seen from the side where the door or other leaf provided with said lock opens, the front wall of its housing being partially broken away and the lock being shown in the locked closed position; Figo 2 is a corresponding plan view with the cover removed; Figo 3 is a vertical cross section taken on line 3-3 of Fig.1; Fig. 4 is a similar section, in the unlocked position due to the introduction of the key; Figs 5 and 6 are side and front views of this key.
According to the example of execution represented, the lock is supposed to be applied to a door whose leaf A which opens in the direction of arrow f1 (Fig. 2) must be able to be locked in the folded position against the dormant B .
-This lock comprises in combination with a usual keep 1, intended to be fixed on the lateral field of the frame B, a box 2 provided with a cover 3 fixed by screws 4 and an end plate or faceplate 5, welded to this box and fitted against the leaf field A, while the large faces 6 and 7 of the case 2 are flush with the faces of this leaf.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A bolt 8 is slidably mounted in the housing 2 from which it emerges through the faceplate 5; its end outside the casing and intended to penetrate into the keep 1 comprises the usual bevel 9. A spring 10 constantly tends to return this bolt to its extreme closed position (Figs. 1 and 2).
The bolt 8 has a housing in the form of a transverse notch 11 in which a locking device is housed. This comprises alternating flakes 12 and 12a, for example in the respective numbers of two and three.
These flakes are retained in the notch 11 by a plate 13, fixed to the bolt by screws 14. The flakes are capable of being moved individually in transverse planes perpendicular to the direction X - X (Fig. 2) movement of the bolt. Each straw is resiliently biased towards the bottom of the housing 11 by a spring 15 (Fig. 3) arranged around a rod 16 which is carried by the straw and whose free end is guided by a hole (Fig. 2) of the plate 13 against which the various springs 15 abut.
The sequins cooperate to immobilize the bolt in one or the other of its extreme positions with two complementary parts provided on the housing 1.
For this purpose, each straw is provided laterally and at one of its ends with a locking lug 17 or 17a.
The mating parts provided on the housing consist of two sets of stop projections 18, 18 or 19, 19a in relief on the internal faces of the housing, in the bottom of longitudinal clearances 20; the ends of one of these clearances forming two end-of-travel stops 21 and 22 (Fig. 2) for the bolt 8.
These projections 18, 18a or 19, 19a are placed with respect to the end-of-travel stops 21 and 22 so that in the closed position, the extreme left-hand straw 12a abuts against the stop 21, while all the straws at the 'except for the straw 12a on the right have their pins 17, 17a captured in the notches made between the projections 18, 18a; and in the open position of the lock, the right-hand straw 12a abuts against the end 22 of the recess 20 and its lug is trapped between this stop and the projection 19a.
The bolt 8 is unlocked by a key 23, the simple introduction of which into the housing and through the bolt, between the bottom of its notch 11 and the spangles 12, 12a, transversely to the direction X - X of movement of the bolt. bolt, releases said sequins from the locking notches.
With a view to the introduction of the key by one or the other of the faces of the housing 2, the two large walls 6 and 7 of this housing have opposite two slots 24, parallel to X - X.
These slots are arranged at the level of symmetrical clearances 25 made in the lower fields of the straws, these clearances forming with the bottom of the notch 11 of the bolt two symmetrical entries of the key between the bolt and the straws.
The bottom of the housing 11 is in the plane of the lower edges of the slots 24 (Fig.l).
The key 23 affects the shape of a flat blade whose thickness a (Fig. 5) corresponds to the width of the slots 24 of the housing, while the width b of its active portion (Fig. 6) corresponds to that of the housing. 11 of the bolt (Fig. 2). This key has (Fig. 5.6) at the end of its portion
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
activates a bevel 26 facilitating its penetration between the flakes 12, 12a and the bolt 8 in the bottom of the notch 11.
It also has on this bevel and on the active face which follows it a series of grooves 27 of different depths and the arrangement of which corresponding to that of the flakes is such that it makes it possible to move the latter by moving them away from the bottom. of the housing 11 of the bolt in antagonism to the action of the springs 15, to release their lugs 17, 17a from the notches formed by the locking projections 18, 18a or 19, 19a
The key further comprises, on its face opposite the active face, a guide projection 28 intended to slide firstly in one of a pair of notches 29 or 30 of one or the other. slots 24 of the housing when the bolt occupies one or other of its extreme positions, then in one or the other of two facing grooves 31 (Fig. 3, 4)
formed in the axis of the bottom of the notch 11 of the bolt on either side of a central threshold 32 which, in the locking position, acts as a support for the central straw 12a.
Finally, the active face of the key and the opposite face have recesses 33 and 34 respectively matching the shape of the end of a thumb and of an index, in order to allow the user to correctly place the key in. its entrance, in total darkness for example.
The operation is as follows. The lock being for example in the closed position of Figs. 1 to 3, to open it, the key is introduced through one or the other of the slots 24 of the housing, for example as shown in Figs. 2 and 4 by that provided in face 6.
The projection 28 of this key slides into the corresponding notch 29 then into one of the grooves 31 of the bolt, however the bevel 26 of this key pushes the spangles 12, 12 against the action of the springs 15 and releases their lugs 17, 17 of the conjugate stops 18, 18 for twisting.
The bolt 8 is released and as the key 23 now forms a block with the locking device constituted by the straws 12, 12a, the assembly (8, 23, 12, 12a) can be moved in translation along X - X using the key as a maneuvering member The bolt can thus be brought into its extreme opening position determined by the stop of the spangle 12a on the right against the stop face 22.
For this position, the drbite flakes 12, 12a are opposite the notches formed by the projections 19, 19a and the projection 26 of the key is opposite the notch 30 of the slot 24 The key can therefore be extracted at 23a (Fig. 2) which ensures that the lock is locked in the open position, thus preventing an inadvertent closing of the door.
To close the latter, the key - if it has been extracted - is reintroduced into 23a which unlocks the bolt. The whole of this bolt, the sequins and the key is moved in translation by means of this key and brought back to the closed position of FIGS. 'The 2, 3 determined by the stop of the. straw 12a on the left against the face of the stopper of the release 20.
Extracting the key relocks the bolt 8.
Of course, the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment shown and described, which was chosen only as an example.
Optionally, the sequins can be arranged in the bolt so that the transverse profile of the key is a broken line, only the position of all the sequins corresponding to the profile of the key making it possible to release the bolt.
Finally, it will be noted that the stops 19, 19a for locking the bolt in
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
open position may possibly be omitted, the notch 30 of each slot 24 being retained or not.
CLAIMS.
1.- Lock of the type which comprises a bolt movable in translation carrying a locking device held elastically in engagement with a complementary part integral with the lock housing and a key adapted to detach, by its simple introduction into the lock and without rotation, this locking device and this additional part, said lock being characterized in that the bolt (8) and the housing (2) are drilled right through for the passage of the key (20) which for unlocking can therefore be introduced indifferently by one or the other of the faces of the lock, the opening (11) made in the bolt (8) and containing the locking device (12, 12) having in the direction (XX)
of displacement of this bolt exactly the dimension (b) that the key (20) presents in this direction while the openings (24) made opposite in the last pardesface (, 7 of the tiar (2) are formed by two slots parallel to uette direction and length such that after unlocking the bolt (8) by inserting the key (23) through one of these slots (24) and unlocking the bolt, this key which then forms part of this bolt allows, by a translation of said key, to move the bolt in said direction (XX) between its two extreme positions of closing and opening.
