<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a headlight, in particular a signal light for vehicles with a chamber essentially delimited by a hollow mirror and a luminous window and containing two incandescent bulbs. In known headlights of this kind, the entire surface available for light output was not uniformly illuminated. The resulting irregular distribution of light is particularly unfavorable when the two bulbs have very different light intensities and only the substantially weaker bulb is switched on.
When this bulb is still masked by a transparent color filter to obtain a luminous coloring deviating from the color of the luminous window, the irregular distribution of

the light produces different tints on the light window which can give rise to the wrong meanings.
These defects are remedied by the fact that, according to the invention, the incandescent filaments of the two bulbs are directed, at least approximately, perpendicular to the optical axis of the mirror, the filament of a bulb being placed between the focus of the concave mirror and the light window, the filament of the other being on the other hand arranged between the focal point and the top of the hollow mirror and this preferably in the vicinity of the focal point.
In the drawing is shown in vertical section through the middle an exemplary embodiment of the object of the invention and the invention also extends to the characteristics explained with the aid of this drawing and to their possible combinations.
In a tub-shaped housing 5 there is a hollow mirror 6 which together with a cover ring 7 and a light window 8 inserted therein delimits a chamber 9.
The optical axis passing through the focus F of the concave mirror passes through the light window 8 at point L and the top of the hollow mirror at point S. In chamber 9 are two soffit bulbs 10 and 11 which have a different light intensity and whose the filaments located in their mean axis are directed perpendicular to the optical axis.
The mean axis of the stronger bulb 10 intersects the segment FS of the optical axis in the vicinity of the focal point, while the axis of the weaker bulb 11 intersects the segment FL of this axis. The bulb 11 is surrounded by a tubular colored light filter 12.
One end of this filter is mounted in the flange-shaped edge 13 of a tray 15 which has an attachment tab folded around the other end of the filter. The plate is integral with a support lug 16 also serve for the arrival of current from the bulbs 10 and. 11 and fixed to the hollow mirror 6. The two other members for supplying the current of these bulbs are leaf springs 17 and 18. The leaf spring 18 is articulated by means of a bolt (or
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
rivet) 19 on a tab 20 and can oscillate transversely to the mean axis of the lamp 11 so that the bulb can be easily mounted and exchanged if necessary.
The end of the leaf spring applying to the tab 20 has a flat stamping 21 which fits into a longitudinal groove 22 of the tab used for stiffening.
The leaf spring 17 and the tab 20 are fixed in isolation on the hollow mirror 16 and connected to connection terminals of the. usual kind.
The bulb 11 in conjunction with the transparent filter 12, preferably tinted signal red, provides a light which is distributed very evenly over the light window 8 and therefore is visible from a great distance and as a result of the arrangement according to l invention in a sufficiently large angular zone.
The intense light beam emitted by the light source 10 essentially only passes through the light window 8 which is either colorless or tinted light yellow. This light is suitable for illumination of the rear roadway or for brake indication and / or as a turn signal for direction indication. '
The invention is not limited to this example precisely described and shown in the drawing. If necessary, other embodiments could be used without departing from the scope of the invention.
