<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The present invention relates to devices for controlling several speeds of the phonograph record holder plate, pick-up, etc. in which a friction roller is interposed between the phonographic plate and a driving pulley or other device. drive provided with steps corresponding to the different speeds and in which this wheel can be maintained in a disengaged position called "zero position". @
This intermediate wheel can be found outside or inside the phonographic plate.
The desired aim is to ensure that the choice of a speed must necessarily be made by the displacement of a manual control member in one direction while during the maneuver in the other direction this member automatically returns and the drive device must be in a disengaged position (zero position).
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
A greater operating safety is thus obtained by simple means because the positioning of the transmission members and in particular that of the friction wheel with respect to the different levels of the stepped pulley is done with more precision. .
This device is characterized essentially in that means are provided by which, during its vertical displacement in one direction, the intermediate fricton roller is subjected to the action of a spring so as to be kept in contact. with the edge of the plate and with the drive pulley and then moves along the steps of the said pulley by sliding on these steps from the largest diameter to the smallest while during its movement in the opposite direction, it is automatically and directly returned to its starting position by simultaneously executing a lateral movement.
In order to make the invention fully understood, a non-limiting example of an embodiment thereof will be described below in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire device.
Figures 2 to 8 are explanatory views.
In the attached drawings, 1 represents the disc holder plate, 2 the motor shaft, 3 the intermediate friction roller between the plate 1 and a stepped drive pulley 4 integral with the motor shaft 2.
In the example shown, this pulley comprises four steps corresponding to four speeds of the plate 1.
The wheel 3 is carried by a lever 5 integral in the horizontal plane by means of an axis 19, a support arm 20 qvec which it forms a toggle.
This assembly is subjected to the action of a tension spring 18 tending to keep the roller 3 in contact with the edge of the plate and the steps of the drive pulley and
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
can move vertically to bring the roller 3 successively into contact with the steps of the pulley 4 by a sliding movement along these steps.
A control shaft 6 housed in a part 7 fixed to the frame extends horizontally and is rotated manually by means of a finger 8 or another member.
On this shaft 6 is mounted so as to be able to rotate freely a bell cam 9 provided with toothing 10 which will be discussed below.
On a vertical shaft 11 can pivot an intermediate member comprising a plate 15 arranged in the field and provided with two horizontal tabs 12 and 16 through which the shaft 11 passes.
The lower leg 12 which extends beyond the shaft 11 is provided with a projection (31) and is subjected to the action of a res sort 13 fixed to the frame at 14.
On the side opposite to the axis 19, the arm 20 which can also pivot on the shaft 11 is provided with a horizontal slot 23 in which engages a tenon 24 carried by the cam 9.
During the rotation of the cam 9 this pin 24 causes the rise or fall of the part 20 and through the arm 5 that of the intermediate roller 3.
The plate 15 carries on one side a projection 25 capable of acting in the horizontal plane on the arm 20 and on the other side a projection 26 popping a tenon 27 intended to cooperate with the teeth 10 of the cam 9.
On the shaft 6 is wedged a disc 28 of which is integral a finger 29 which can come into contact with the tenon 24 so as to achieve a direct coupling between the disc 28 and the cam 9 when the finger 8 is rotated. from the zero position to engage the intermediate wheel 3 with the step having the larger diameter and then successively with the steps of smaller diameter.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The device is completed by a spring 32 wound on the horizontal shaft 6 between the cam 9 and the support 7 and one end of which is fixed to a projection 36 of the support 7 and the other acts on a tenon 35 carried by the cam 9 tending to rotate the cam in the direction of arrow F (fig. 2).
When changing from the highest speed where the friction wheel 3 is in contact with the step having the highest diameter; towards the position of the lowest speed, this wheel 3 slides along the steps while always remaining in contact with the latter under the effect of the spring 18.
During this ascent, the tenon 27 of the intermediate member 15. cooperates with the teeth 10 of the cam 9.
The profile of this toothing is such that when the cam 9 is rotated for the passage from the highest speed to the lowest speed, the tenon 27 is moved away against the spring 13 and penetrates under the effect of said spring in the intervals of the teeth each corresponding to a vertical positioning of the assembly 5 - 20 with respect to one of the steps and prevents the rotation of the cam in the direction F which the spring 32 tends to give it.
At the start of the movement in the opposite direction of the finger 8 from the position corresponding to the lowest speed of the plate 1 (fig. 6), the cam 9 does not rotate, but the disc 28 is driven and at the end of this rotation the finger 29 comes into contact with the projection 31 of the tab 12 (FIG. 7) and causes the intermediate member 15 to pivot in an anti-clockwise direction. As a result, the projection 25 of the member 15 comes into contact with the arm 20 and causes it to pivot around the shaft 11 and the roller 3 is moved laterally beyond the diameter corresponding to the largest step.
At the same time, the tenon 27 is released from the gap of the toothing 10 where it is located (fig. 7) and no longer retains the cam 9 which under the action of the spring 32 is driven in the direction of the arrow F (fig. 2) and lower the assembly
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
20-5-3 in the zero position, i.e. permanent disengagement of the intermediate roller.
This permanent disengaged position is achieved as follows when these, the pressure exerted on the finger 8 during the maneuver described above, the action of the finger 29 of the disc 28 on the projection 31 of the tab 12 of part 15 also ceases; the intermediate member 15 then pivots in the clockwise direction under the action of the spring 13 until the tenon 27 meets the gap of the teeth) 10 of the bell cam 9 ui is at its height in the extreme rotation position of the cam.
This interval of the teeth 10 of the bell cam 9 limits the pivoting of the intermediate member 15 to a position where the arm 25 of this organ maintains the assembly 20-5 against the action of the spring 18. in a position where the wheel 3 does not cooperate with the edge of the plate 1 and the stepped drive pulley 4.
It is obvious that if instead of effecting the rapid return of the device to the position of permanent disengagement of the caster, it is desired to achieve this rapid return at a determined higher speed, the mechanism described can be adapted without difficulty. to this embodiment.
In order to be able to use the control finger 8 as an index of the speed position in which the control device is located; spring 40 tending to keep the finger 29 of the plate 28 in contact with the tenon 24 of the cam 9 is wound around the shaft 6, one of its ends bearing against a projection 42 of the support 7, the other acting on a tenon 41 integral with the finger 8 itself integral with the shaft 6 and the plate 8.
It will therefore suffice to compare the different positions that finger 8 can take with indications corresponding to them.
The device according to the invention can be combined advantageously with the automatic reset to the zero position.
