are obtained by the distillation of hard coal.
The process is essentially characterized by the fact that by the effect of the heat of part of the gas produced, the waste fuels and the poor fuels to be developed are first of all distilled by the dry process at low temperature, after which the low-carbonization coke, which is thus obtained is transformed by the addition of highly superheated water vapor according to the chemical formula H2O + C = H2 + 00, into combustible gases, the mass of incandescent coke being able to receive, in together with the highly superheated water vapor, an addition of liquid and preheated oil, such as crude mineral oil or fuel oil, which, under the influence of the high temperature of said mass of coke,
It also turns into a gas that can be used as fuel of high calorific value and into oil coal.
The low carbonization gas of the pre-dry distillation and the gasifier gas proper are discharged separately. -On the other hand, the water vapor necessary for the production of the gasifier gas is produced by the heat released by the main gasification.
The apparatus for carrying out the process in practice is in the form of a gasifier composed of a double-walled steel body with an internal refractory lining, and a heating device, preferably electric, for the heating. high overheating of the !. water vapor required. A feature of the steel body of the gasifier is that the space between the two walls is designed as a steam boiler. On the other hand, an annular ramp for distributing the additional oil surrounds the gasifier hearth.
The inner wall of the double-walled steel body is preferably at its top to narrow inwardly in the form of a filling hopper, while the outer wall continues to expand.

to expand cylindrically, whereby a flare is created which serves both as a steam collecting dome and as an enlargement of the boiler capacity. The device for the high superheating (about 1500) read. produced water vapor, is advantageously mounted in a steam pipe which opens into the gasifier below the foyer.decelui.
This device is preferably made up of a series of pairs of electrodes, the free ends of which engage in said tubing, while towards the outside they are isolated so as to be airtight. steam and air. and to be exempt from any risk of combustion, the electric arc formed between these electrodes acting as a heat source. Finally, the gasifier also comprises pipes for the separate evacuation of the low carbonization gases, the gasifier gas and the dry / produced water vapor.
The accompanying drawing shows an example of execution of the new gasifier.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal axial section thereof and Figures 2 and 3 show in oblique and vertical sections the electric device with electrodes for the high superheating of the water vapor required.
In fig. 1 1 and 2 denote the two outer and inner walls of the steel body: which constitutes the gasifier, the inner wall being, in its upper part, narrowed to form a filling hopper 14 closed at the top by a cover 16 provided with a water seal 17, known per se.
The outer wall preferably extends cylindrically over its entire height and the space between the two walls forms an annular boiler, in which is stored the water necessary for the production of the steam, which is collected. at the top in the collecting dome 20, provided with a

water level 21. The inner wall is internally provided with a refractory lining 13.
The gasification tank
9 of the gasifier comprises at the bottom and in a known manner a throttle 11 which acts as a hearth and into which open the bushes 25 arranged all around for supplying the oil. additional hot. These nozzles are connected by means of conduits 24 and stop cocks 23 to an annular supply rail 22 arranged around the gasifier.
Below the hearth 11 is the collecting chamber 10 for the liquid slag which is periodically discharged at 12.
The steam supply pipe 5 opens into the chamber 10 below the firebox 5. It engages the pairs of electrodes 6, 7, 8, which, as shown in FIGS. 3 and especially 2, are fitted into the insulators 27 retained by the rings 29 in the tube 28. For the insulation of the electrodes, seals 30, which can be applied elastically to the electrodes, are also provided. , which must withstand high temperatures and ensure proper sealing of the electrodes to gas and air. These seals are retained, on both sides, by double bandages 32, 33, 31, 34.
.On the other hand, there is also a gasifier tubing
3 for supplying water to the chamber which acts as a steam boiler, a pipe 4 lice- @ evacuation of the water vapor, a pipe 15 opening into the loading hopper 14 for the evacuation of low carbonization gas resulting from the predistillation, and, finally, a pipe 19 opening into the conical upper part 18 of the gasification tank 9 and having the bat to evacuate the high quality gas generated in this tank.
The operation; of the gasifier thus arranged is as follows:
