Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    CARACTERES DISTINCTIFS DE L'INVENTION: 1 ) Cet accouplement permet, à partir d'une pression régla- ble et quelle que soit la valeur de cette pression, une répar- tition mécaniquement exacte des efforts sur les billes, indé- pendamment d'un léger mésalignement angulaire ou axial des deux arbres en présence. Ces particularités confèrent au sys- tème une très grande sensibilité au déclenchement en cas de

 <Desc/Clms Page number 3>

   The present invention is intended for the coupling of motor and driven shafts, and at% DE of the protection of the mechanical components present, with respect to any temporary or long-term overload, resulting in the present case by a torque greater than that expected for the proper functioning of an installation.

  RIPITON: The coupling has two conventional sleeves provided with a wedge groove for driving. One of the sleeves is made up of a chain pinion (normal toothing). The other sleeve is a similar part ;, but the rim of which is cylindrical and bears a series of holes each hole enclosing a ball. Each ball is supported by two consecutive rollers of a chain with double row of rollers which encircles the two sleeves. The pressure is transmitted to the balls by means of a ring bearing conical claws, which engage in part in the bores of the ball bearing sleeve.

   This ring is itself retained by means of a cylindrical helical spring, the tension of which is adjusted by means of a threaded collar on the outside diameter of the sleeve.

  After adjustment of the normal driving torque, any overload causes a sliding reaction between the contact generator of the roller and the ball in contact.

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 support position on this roller. The balls, being retained in their respective housing, sink under this pressure and, resting on their respective claws, protect the retraction of the ring. After this stage, the balls return to their normal latching position and the same phenomenon occurs as long as the overload lasts.

  The apparatus is described in detail, with the support of the attached drawing, which gives a non-limiting form of construction and in which: FIG I: an elevational view in which
I A is a side view of the ball bearing sleeve
I B is a side view of the chain sprocket. FIG II: a plan view with half cross section.

  In this drawing, the chain sprocket (1) and the cylindrical sleeve (2) serving to connect the two shafts present, are made integral under normal torque by means of a chain with double row of rollers (3). One row of rollers normally meshes with pinion (1) while the other row of rollers receives pressure from balls (7) internally. Each of the balls is supported between two consecutive chain rollers thus causing the sleeve (2) to be driven. The pressure is adjustable by means of the helical spring (5) which, acting on the ring with conical claws (4), distributes this pressure in an equal force on each ball (7). The pressure of the spring (5) is adjusted by a threaded collar (6) on the outside diameter of the sleeve (2).

    DISTINCTIVE FEATURES OF THE INVENTION: 1) This coupling allows, from an adjustable pressure and whatever the value of this pressure, a mechanically exact distribution of the forces on the balls, independently of a slight angular or axial misalignment of the two shafts involved. These peculiarities give the system very high sensitivity to tripping in the event of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 3>

 overload, as well as great regularity of operation in normal operation.

  2) The trigger instantly causes an audible noise through the movement of the balls forming a "ratchet" on the chain rollers. The retraction of the ring (4) makes it possible to activate a microswitch or other system which could cause a cut in the supply current to the motor unit.

  3) With a very small size, this coupling, by virtue of the symmetrical arrangement of its masses with respect to the axis of rotation, causes practically no backlash and therefore allows high speeds.
