Suivant l'invention, le joint élastique en forme H est logé dans le creux intérieur forma dans un carter annulaire en tôle emboutie, dont un des côtes est fixé par soudure, filetage ou . autre moyen, a l'extrémité d'emboîtement d'un tuyau.. quelques formes d réalisation de l'invention seront décrites ci-âpres, L. simple titre d'exemples, avec référence aux dessins annexas, dans lesquels : la figure 1 est une vue partielle en coupe axiale de l'ex- trémité d'un tuyau pourvu du raccord perfectionné selon l'inven- tion et montrant la joint élastique avant l'engagement du tuyau adjacent; la figure 2 est une vue identique à la figure 1, montrant la déformation du joint élastique après engagement du tube adja- cent ;
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
6. Lors de
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

The invention relates to improvements made to: fittings for pipes of underground pipelines and others, for gas, water, air, etc., as well as for pipes and valves, in which use is made of. a seal consisting of a ring with an H section, made of rubber or similar elastic material, said seal being engaged in an annular groove made in the inner face of the socket of a pipe or of a sleeve, so that during the engagement of the end of another pipe in said socket or in said sleeve, the seal is elastically deformed and pressed on the facing walls of the two nested pipes to ensure the tightness and fixity of the assembly.
The laying of pipelines, comprising pipes whose fittings are provided with such an elastic joint, is easy and quick and does not require the use of labor.

qualified. This method of assembling pipes also allows the pipes to follow a certain curvature without making use of special elements and without affecting the tightness of the joint.
However, the application of this type of elastic joint, with an H-shaped section, to the pipes, has certain drawbacks, particularly from the point of view of the arrangement of the housing intended to receive the joint in the fitting of these. pipes, metallized or not. In fact, the production of this housing may prove to be impracticable, in particular when the rolled pipes come out as rolled, without a sufficiently reinforced end allowing such parachment.
The present invention relates to an improved connector of this type, of simple and economical construction, which eliminates these drawbacks.
According to the invention, the H-shaped elastic seal is housed in the interior hollow formed in an annular casing of stamped sheet metal, one of the sides of which is fixed by welding, threading or. other means, at the fitting end of a pipe .. some embodiments of the invention will be described below, L. purely by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIG. 1 is a partial view in axial section of the end of a pipe provided with the improved connector according to the invention and showing the elastic seal before the engagement of the adjacent pipe; FIG. 2 is a view identical to FIG. 1, showing the deformation of the elastic seal after engagement of the adjacent tube;
FIG. 3 shows an alternative embodiment of the connection according to fig. 1; FIG. 4 shows the use of an elastic seal of modified shape; FIG. 5 shows the deformation of the elastic seal of FIG.
4, after engaging the adjacent pipe, and

FIG. 6 is a partial view in axial section of the end of a pipe showing a modified form of the elements of the connector according to the invention.
As shown in the drawings, the elastic seal 5, in the form of a workbench made of rubber or similar elastic material, is housed, according to the invention, in the interior hollow of an annular casing 6 made of pressed sheet metal and fixed by welding, thread or other suitable means, at the widened end 7 or socket of a pipe 8.
The seal 5 made of elastic material housed in the housing 6 shown in FIG. 1, has two branches or lips 9 and 10 of unequal lengths, the branch 10 being longer than the branch 9. When the pipe 11 is introduced into the joint 5, the axial displacement of this pipe has the effect of bending the branch 9 of this seal by pushing it back into the groove 12, formed between said branches 9 and 10, so as to hermetically press and block the body of the seal 5 in the hollow of the housing 6.
By continuing the introduction of the pipe 11 into the joint, the branch 10 of the latter is folded in turn and pushed back towards the inside of the pipe 8 to be pressed between the inner wall 13 of this pipe and the outer wall of the pipe. end of pipe 11 (fig. 2).
The ends of the branches9 and 10 of the joint p re s tent chamfers, respectively 14 and 15. The chamfer 14 facilitates the introduction of the pipe 11 into the joint. On the other hand, the thinned end 15a of the chamfer 15 is intended to come to apply hermetically against the inner wall 13 of the widened end 7 of the pipe 8, to form an autoclave seal when subjected to the pressure. of the fluid circulating in the pipe.
The housing 6 can be formed in one piece or, for reasons of economy, consist of two half-shells 16 and 17, assembled at 18 by welding and then fixed on
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
the end 7 of the pipe 8. These half-shells can be obtained by stamping out of sheets cut accordingly and joined together by welding spots or in another way to form the casing 6.
Due to the pressure of the seal 5 in the hollow of the casing 6, as well as between the pipes 8 and 11, the weld between the shells 16 and 17, as well as the weld 19 fixing the casing 6 on the end 7 of the tube, may not be airtight, without affecting the airtightness of the entire seal. This feature of the invention allows these welds to be carried out on site if necessary, since they do not require any leak test.
According to a modified arrangement of the raccoid shown in fig 3, the annular casing 6 has a certain taper which allows the joint 5 to be given a slight inclination with respect to the axial direction of the pipe to which the casing is fixed, so as to direct the branches 9 and 10 of this joint towards the interior of the pipe 7, thus facilitating the introduction of the pipe 11 into said joint.
Figure 4- shows the casing 6 provided with an elastic seal 5 of slightly modified shape, due to the fact that the branches 9a and 10a of equal length have a certain inclination directed towards the interior of the socket 7 of the tube 8, which facilitates the introduction of the pipe 11 into the joint. Fig. 5 shows the elastic deformation of the joint after the introduction, therein, of the pipe 11.
Fig. 6 shows an alternative embodiment of the connector according to the invention, in which the casing 6 fixed to the socket 7 of the tube 8, takes the form of a blunderbuss established in pressed metal in one piece, starting from 'a tubular blank.
The flared part 20 of. this blunderbuss is curved to form an annular hollow 21, in which the elastic seal 5 of suitable shape is engaged, for example coame shown in FIG. 6. When
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
the engagement of the tube 11 in the joined the branches 9b. and 10b thereof act, the first to hermetically block the body of the elastic seal in the recess 21, while the second is pressed between the inner wall 13 of the socket 7 and the outer face of the pipe 11.
