Cardan gear couplings are known allowing speed reductions between parallel, inclined and axial shafts, in which there are two pairs of toothed wheels meshing one into the other wedged on the hubs and sleeves suitable for all types of reduction of speed. In speed reducers with inclined and parallel shafts, the teeth of the outer gears which mesh with the inner teeth of the coupling sleeve, lie obliquely with respect to the axis and mesh at an angle. A larger clearance is therefore necessary between the two teeth meshing with one another. But these couplings must still allow axial displacement of the shafts.
In this case, the torque is transmitted by the edges of the teeth of the hub to the side faces of the teeth of the inner gear, when the teeth are inclined with respect to each other, so that the teeth which do not They act that their edges are subjected to a high wear in the event of necessary additional axial displacement, and cause @@ high friction resistance.
In accordance with the invention, this drawback can be avoided if one separates, on the one hand, the operation of the speed reducer with parallel and inclined shafts, and on the other hand, the axial displacement of the shafts, by using two different toothings. interior and exterior, each time meshing with each other.
According to the present invention, is interposed between the toothing of the hub and that of the coupling sleeve, a ring provided with an internal and external toothing, the internal toothing of which meshes with the toothing of the hub, and the external teeth with that of the hub. muff. Between the external teeth of the ring and the internal teeth of the sleeve, there is a clearance allowing a reduction in speed between inclined shafts, while the internal toothing of the ring meshes with the teeth of the hub to finally achieve axial displacements on a slide support.
In the proposed construction of the gear coupling, the aforementioned drawbacks of the known method of construction of the couplings are avoided. The teeth can therefore withstand greater forces, allowing for higher and better power transmission. The friction resistance of the teeth which mesh with one another in the case of axial displacement of the shafts is low because they do not undergo any edge action. The thrust forces resulting from axial sliding are thus reduced to a minimum, which keeps the shafts and bearings of the machines coupled together, the service life of which as well as that of the couplings, is notably increased.
The coupling according to the invention can, for example, be constructed in the form of a double-articulated coupling, the ring of which, interposed between the coupling sleeve and the hub, carries an external toothing and an external toothing. interior; the external toothing engages with the internal toothing of the sleeve, leaving there a greater play, and allows the speed reduction between parallel and inclined shafts, while the other toothing, free of play, allows axial displacements of the hub in the coupling sleeve.
It is then irrelevant whether the meshing for the speed reducer with inclined and parallel shafts takes place between. the sleeve and the ring or between the ring and the hub, while, correspondingly, the engagement actuating the axial displacement of the shafts, takes place between the ring and the hub or between the sleeve and the ring.
The gear - intended for the speed reducer with parallel and inclined shafts, is preferably constructed in the form of an arc gear with crowns forming from spherical surfaces. The bulges may however have any other shape suitable for speed reducers.

tess with parallel and inclined shafts.
In order to avoid axial thrust on the speed reducer gears with parallel and inclined shafts, the ring interposed between the two gears of the coupling can be provided with spherical surfaces on which the coupling sleeve rests.
In another embodiment of the invention, it is possible to have the gear used for the axial displacement only on one side, for example on a hub of the coupling, while on both sides of the coupling there is a gear of speed reduction with inclined or parallel shafts. In this case, the side on which the two gears of the intermediate ring are located transmits all kinds of speed reductions, while the side of the coupling having only one hub gear meshing into the sleeve , transmits only the speed reductions between parallel and inclined shafts. In this way, the principle of the invention is only applied to one, - of the sides of the coupling.
In longitudinal section is shown in the drawing, by way of example of embodiment of the invention, a coupling with double articulation.
At the ends of the two shafts to be coupled to one another, are fixed the hubs 1, 1 'provided with spur gears 2, 2'. On these engages on a slide support, the internal toothed ring 3, 3 ', of a ring 4, 4' provided with a domed external toothing 5, 5 'which meshes with an internal cylindrical gear 6, 6 'of the coupling sleeve.
The ring 4, 4 'has an axial width greater than that of its toothed crowns 3, 5 or respectively 3', 5 '; it is provided on one side with spherical surfaces 8,9 or respectively 8 ', 9'. On the spherical surfaces 9, 9 'rests a ball tube of the coupling sleeve, 7, 7' while on the outer spherical surface 8, 8 'rests a housing cover 10, 10' in the form of ring, screwed to the 'coupling sleeve 7,7'. The gear 2, respectively 2 'of the coupling hubs 1, 1 is externally limited by a ring 11, respectively 11' ... screwed on the face front of the hub.1, and inside by a ring 12, respectively 121-which limits, at the same time,
the longitudinal sliding of the shafts carrying the coupling hubs 1,1 '.
The inner ring gear 3, 3 'of the ring 4, 4' meshes by adapting to a slide bearing, that is to say practically without play on the spur gear 2, 2 ', while the toothing domed outer 5, 5 ', of the ring 4, 4' meshes with the inner toothing 6, 6 'of the coupling sleeve 7, 7' which allows a reduction in speed with parallel and inclined shafts. In this case, thanks to its internal gear 3, 3 ', meshing with the gear of the hub 2, 2', the ring 4, 4 'always maintains a position parallel to the axis, which avoids a wedging of the teeth of the inner gear 3, 3 'in the outer gear 2, 2' of the hubs 1, 1 'in the case of the gear reducer with inclined or parallel shafts.
In the illustrated embodiment, the gear coupling is constructed as a double joint gear. But it can also be used as a simple coupling, and in this case one of the shafts is connected to the hub 1 and the other to the coupling sleeve 7.
As a simple coupling, however, it cannot operate as a parallel shaft speed reducer, but only as an inclined shaft speed reducer with axial displacement.
The straight teeth allowing axial displacements of the shafts can be provided in the coupling sleeve instead of being provided on the hub. In this case the meshing allowing the speed reductions with parallel and inclined shafts operates between the hub and the ring, and the tooth

outer hub shape has a domed shape.
