<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

In some machine tools for dressing flat surfaces by grinding wheel or rotary milling cutter, the object to be dressed is placed on a horizontal table, driven by an alternating translational movement, while the dressing tool, located above the table, is carried by a fixed amount.
This type of machine has drawbacks and in particular a large size and serious difficulties to achieve the reversal of the reciprocating movement of the table without shock, in the event of high speed thereof.
In other machine tools for dressing flat surfaces by grinding wheel or milling cutter, the object to be dressed is placed on a stationary table, while the dressing tool is mounted on an oscillating arm describing an arc of a circle above Table.
This type of machine takes up less space than previous machines, but the surface area of the object that can be erected is limited.
The object of the present invention is in particular to avoid these drawbacks and consists of a machine tool for dressing flat surfaces by grinding wheel or rotary milling cutter, in which the object to be dressed is mounted on a table, driven by a pivoting movement. reciprocating around a fixed axis, while the dressing tool is mounted on an arm, driven by a reciprocating pivoting movement around an axis parallel to the aforementioned fixed axis, the two reciprocating movements being synchronized with each other by mechanical means such as: lever and slide, lever and connecting rod, gears, etc.
The mechanical connection can be made in different ways.
Thus for example: a) in a first embodiment, one of the ends of a lever, integral with the pivot axis of the tool holder arm, comprises an element coacting with a rectilinear guide, integral with the table and passing through the pivot axis of the table.
In particular, said element is constituted by a roller, moving in a groove forming the guide, b) in a second embodiment, an arm integral with the pivot axis of the tool-holder arm, drives an arm integral with the pivot axis of the object table, via a connecting rod.
The oscillating movements of the tool-holder arm and of the plate can be controlled by an energy source (electric motor, hydraulic control, manual control, etc.)) acting on said axes of rotation of the plate and of the tool-holder arm. through the mechanical link.
In particular, in the case where the energy source is an electric motor, it can drive a toothed sector, integral with one of the oscillating elements of the aforementioned mechanical connection.
The reversal of the oscillating movements can be ensured by manual means or by automatic means.
Thus, for example, in the latter case, cleats fixed in an adjustable manner on the table can actuate, during the pivoting of the latter, a control lever for reversing the operation of the energy deaf,
Tool height adjustment can be achieved by hand control and, if desired, by an automatic control attached thereto.
In the case of an automatic control, this can be controlled by the movement of the gear shift lever.
By way of example only, the appended drawing represents a diagram

Figure 3, the lowering control of the grinding spindle.
Figure 4, a view of part of the machine shown in Figures 1 to 3, and,
Figures 5 and 6, two variant embodiments of the command of the mold holder arm and of the table
In the machine shown in Figures 1 to 4, a frame 1 supports the entire mechanism. In a bore of this frame 1 slides a cylindrical fur 2. This fur carries a rack 3, which is controlled by a pinion 4 rotating in the frame 1 and making it possible to move this fur vertically and varying its position relative to the frame 1.
The fur 2 can be blocked in any of its positions by a lever 7 and thus becomes integral with the frame. A grub arm 5 provided with a hollow shaft 6 is mounted inside the fur 2, and can pivot to the inside this fur.
On this grinding wheel arm 5 is fixed an electric motor 8 which drives, by means of a belt passing over pulleys 9 and 10 in rotation, a grinding wheel spindle 12 on which a grinding wheel 13 is fixed.
This grinding wheel holder spindle 12 rotates inside a cylindrical fur 11, which carries a rack 14 and can, by means of a pinion 15 rotating in the grinding wheel holder arm 5, move vertically with respect to that -this.
The vertical displacement of this grinding wheel holder fur 11 can be obtained on the one hand by a hand control (FIG. 3) and on the other hand by an automatic control not shown and in itself known, actuated by a lever 22.
A table 16 secured to a shaft 17 rests on the frame 1 by ball bearings 19 and can pivot around the axis of the shaft 17 on the frame 1. The lower end of the shaft 17 carries a slide- rectangular 18 (fig. 1 and 4).
This table 16 also carries a T-shaped groove 20 which can be fixed in suitably chosen positions two cleats 21 which come into contact with the lever 22 carried by the frame 1 via an axis about which it can rotate.
On the other hand, a lever 23 carrying a toothed sector 36 is integral with a pivot 24 located in a housing of the frame 1 coaxial with the bore containing the sleeve 2. The pivot 24 is made integral with the hollow shaft 6 of the arm. grinding wheel holder 5 by a key 25 which slides in a groove provided in the hollow shaft, so that any rotation of the lever 23 causes an equal rotation of the grinding wheel holder arm 5. The end of the lever 23, opposite to that which carries the sector 36, carries a roller 26, which rolls without play in the slide 18 integral with the table 16.
A pinion 27, rotating in the frame 1, is controlled by means of a return of bevel gears 37 by a motor 28, and meshes with the toothed sector 36 and thus turns the lever 23 around the. pivot 24 by rotating the grinding wheel arm 5 and the table 16. A control actuated by the lever 22 and not shown reverses the direction of rotation of the motor 28, each time the lever 22 strikes one of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
stops 21, so that the amplitude of the oscillating movement of the lever 23 of the grinding wheel arm 5 and of the table 16 can be adjusted.
The operation of this machine is as follows:
The grinding wheel arm 5 is adjusted in height relative to the table 16 and blocked by the lever 7. The grinding wheel 13 is precisely adjusted in height relative to the table 16 by the control 38 of the spindle holder 11.
The motor 28 is started. The grinding wheel holder arm 5 and the table 16 perform oscillating movements.
When one of the tabs 21 comes into contact with the lever 22, the latter rocks and reverses the direction of rotation of the motor 28 and commands the descent of the spindle 12 by a determined quantity. The arm assembly 23, table 16, starts again in the other direction. The amplitude of the oscillating movements is determined by the positions of the cleats 21.
Thus, the mold 13 sweeps a surface limited by two circles whose centers are on the pivot axis AA of the grinding wheel arm 5 and which are tagents one internally, and the other externally to the grinding wheel 13. The object to be rectified is placed on this surface as a result of the complementary movement of the table 16 which carries it and which pivots around the axis BB of the shaft 17, parallel to the axis AA. The object is thus presented to the work of the millstone 13.
In the case of FIG. 5, the control shown in FIG. 4 is replaced by a hydraulic control. The latter comprises a cylinder 31 pivoting on an axis 32 fixed on the frame 1 and containing a piston 39 whose rod 30 slides in the cylinder 31 and actuates, via an axis 29, the lever 23. The oil arrives in the cylinder 31 by two flexible pipes 33 and 34 and the reversal of the arrival of the oil is ensured as in the case of the electric control by the lever 22, which gives the grinding wheel arm 5 and to the table 16 their movements oscil-

s3mohronized lants
In the case of Figure 6, the control shown in Figure 4 is replaced by a control rod and crank.
The bodies commms the controls shown in Figures 4 and 6 are designated by the same references. The lever 23 and the toothed sector 36 are replaced by a connecting rod 40 articulated on the one hand to a pin 41 carried by a toothed sector 42, wedged on the shaft 24 and actuated by a pinion 27 and, on the other hand, to an axis 43 carried by an arm 44 keyed on the shaft 17. It is obvious that the pivoting movements of the grinding wheel arm 5 and of the table 16 are synchronized by the assembly connecting rod 40, arm 44 and toothed sector 42.
The present invention is not limited to the machines described and shown. Thus, for example, the grinding wheel 13 can be replaced by a tangent mold, that is to say a grinding wheel the periphery of which is used for dressing and not one of the faces as in the case of FIG. 1.
