<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

1, the invention relates to a lubricating device for flexible Bowden transmissions, especially for motorcycles, in which the end of the Bowden transmission is clamped in a resilient plug having a longitudinal slot.
To ensure long-term trouble-free operation of the Bowden transmission, proper and regular lubrication is necessary. For this purpose, devices have already been proposed which consist essentially of an oil reservoir and which are closed by a plug of elastic material, provided with a longitudinal slot and receiving the end of the Bowden transmission, such as so that the oil flows between the core and the casing of the transmission.
However, devices of this kind have the drawback that they only lubricate the Bowden transmission over a short length. In order to avoid this defect, additional devices have been proposed which are clamped on the casing of the Bowden transmission previously provided with orifices so that the oil can penetrate through the orifices provided in the casing to the inner core. higher. The holes in the casing are then closed with a sleeve after lubrication has been carried out. This method of lubrication is however not only excessively complicated, but it has the drawback that, in this way, the Bowden transmission can also receive oil only over short lengths, without taking any account of what the crankshafts - existing ones must be applied tightly to the casing, so that no oil is lost.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the aforementioned faults and to create a simple, easy-to-handle device for lubricating Bowden transmissions which, adapted to the end of the transmission, makes it possible to lubricate it perfectly over its entire length. length.
In accordance with the invention, this problem is essentially solved by screwing at the end of the pumping tube, subjected to the action of a spring, of an ordinary lubricating press a funnel-shaped bush into which is introduced by means of a cap nut which can be screwed onto the socket, a conical plug made of elastic material, provided with longitudinal slots and receiving the end of the Bowden transmission.
A lubricating device constructed in this way is not only simple in construction and therefore inexpensive to manufacture, but above all, for the simplest handling, has the advantage that the oil is pumped under pressure between casing and core and thus can be fed in the simplest way along the entire length of the Bowden transmission. Special additional devices and the drilling of orifices in the casing are no longer necessary in the construction of the lubricating device according to the invention.
Since the plug receiving the Bowden transmission is inserted into the conical bush by means of a cap nut, not only is the elastic plug pressed firmly and tightly against the wall of the bush but at the same time, the The Bowden transmission casing is tightly clamped by the elastic plug so as to form a tight seal in the plug and no trace of oil can escape along the casing.
However, in order to obtain a perfect seal to achieve a double sealing surface, according to the invention, the stopper is provided with a conical envelope, with a thin wall and forming only one part with it, of which the outer face rests against the tapered bore of the plug mounting sleeve and the inner face against a tapered inner collar of the cap nut.
In order to be able to manufacture the lubricating device as an article of mass inexpensively from artificial material, in particular also the sleeve receiving the cone and the cap nut, it is necessary, taking into account that the screw thread, to manufacturing technical reasons, must be subject to certain tolerances, also to seal the face of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
support of the cap nut.
In accordance with the invention, this is achieved by giving a conical shape to the two ends of the longitudinally split plug and receiving the Bowden transmission, and by providing a conical bore of the same shape to the cap nut which can be screwed onto the sleeve, at the conical end of the plug opposite the socket.
Thanks to this construction of the lubricating device, the result is that the screw connection can also be sealed, on the side of the application of the pressure of the cap nut by the conical bearing surface of the cap nut. even when the thread is loose. In addition, by this construction of the lubricating device an increased bearing pressure is achieved on the Bowden transmission which also guarantees absolute sealing when using an artificial bush and cap nut.
In order that the material of the stopper can give way during its compression according to the invention, the two surfaces of the cone are provided with longitudinal grooves.
As is known, commercially available Bowden transmissions, usable for different purposes, have different outside diameters.
In order then to be able to use the clamping plug without further ado for the most different thicknesses of the Bowden transmission, in accordance with the invention, the bore of the plug intended to receive the Bowden tractor has different diameters in steps.
By this construction of the plug, a well-sealed seat is guaranteed for each diameter of the Bowden transmission.
In order to be able to screw the clamping head onto an ordinary grease gun, it is necessary to first remove the fitting resting on the end of the pump hose and against which the pump tube spring rests.
In order to provide support for this spring after having removed the fitting and without using additional construction parts, according to the invention, the conical bush has a collar turned inwards, against which the coil spring acting on. the pump tube.
The object of the invention is shown by way of example in the drawing.
Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section through the one-sided conical plug grease device constructed in accordance with the invention.
FIG. 2 represents a side view of FIG. 1.
Fig. 3 shows on an enlarged scale a longitudinal section through the lubricating device with conical plug on both sides from which the grease press has been detached.
1 Fig. 4 is an exterior view of the lubricating device according to FIG. 3;
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal section, an exterior view and a standing view of a conical plug from one side only, and
Fig. 6 is a longitudinal section, an exterior view and a standing view of the conical plug from both sides.
The device according to the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 1, 2 and 5, essentially comprises the ordinary type grease gun 1, from which the closing fitting of the pump tube 2 has been removed. In its place, is screwed on the end of the pump tube 2 subjected to the action of the coil spring 3, a funnel-shaped sleeve -Il- provided with a collar 5 directed inward and against which rests the spring 3.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The device further comprises a conical plug 7, provided with an axial bore 6 and slit in the longitudinal direction of elastic material, for example of artificial material or the like. We introduce into the slot
8 of the plug the end of the web 9 of the Bowden transmission and the end of the casing of the Bowden transmission is pushed into the hole 6 of the plug, as shown in FIG. 1. As can be seen in particular on
Figs. 1 and 5, the bore 6 has different diameters in graduated steps so that, upon introduction of a Bowden transmission casing of any diameter, it finds a sealed housing in the part of the bore having the same size.
The plug carrying the end of the Bowden transmission is then inserted into the bore adapted to the taper of the sleeve 4 and tightened in the sleeve by means of a cap nut.
10 resting on the front surface of the stopper.
To guarantee a perfect seal, the stopper 7 carries a conical casing 11 with a thin wall, forming one piece with it. As can be seen in FIG. 1, during the introduction, the outer face of the cap is applied to the conical orifice of the sleeve 4, while in the clearance space remaining between the cap and the inner face of the casing, penetrates a collar 12 of conical shape, provided on the cap nut. A tight seal is thus produced both on the outside and on the inside of the casing 11.
So that during the compression of the stopper, its material can give way, it is provided with several longitudinal grooves 13 In the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 3, 4 and 6, the plug 7 also has a conical shape at the end opposite the socket 4. The cap nut 10 is provided with a collar 10 'having a tapered bore which matches the end. conical of the plug 7, so that the cap nut is tight against the tapered end of the plug and also firmly compresses the plug at that end, As seen in Figs. 3 and 5, this end of the stopper is also provided with longitudinal grooves.
