T E N T E .
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
fige 4.

ATTEMPTED .
The present invention relates to a tent comprising a frame and a tarpaulin or canvas placed on this frame. This tent is characterized by the fact that the frame is constituted by a series of retractable pentagonal vertical supports, arranged at predetermined intervals and braced with respect to each other, each of these supports comprising two transverse tie rods forming the roof of the tent and each articulated on one of the two arms of a top piece, to be able to be fixed on the extension of this arm, while the free ends of these transverse tie rods are articulated on lateral posts comprising the necessary anchors to engage with the earth,
these posts can be secured in turn on the transverse tie rods so as to take a position of use directed obliquely inward and upward.
A preferred embodiment of the invention has been shown by way of example in the accompanying drawings, In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the tent, the tarpaulin of which has been torn off in its central part.
Fig. 2 is a .vue on a larger scale, of a stand isolated from the frame of the tent, shown in a vertical position.
Fig. 3 shows the same support in the folded or retracted state.
Fig. 4 shows a longitudinal tie forming part of the framework.
Figs. 5 and 6 are respectively a side view and a view from above of a ridge part forming part of a support, and articulated, by its ends on the corresponding transverse tie rods shown as being cut away, @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Fig. 7 shows a side post articulated on a transverse tie rod, such as that shown in fig 6.
Fig. 8 shows the lower end of this supposed transverse tie-rod seen in a different direction.
Fig. 9 is a view from above corresponding to FIG. 7.
The tent shown in fig. 1 comprises five pentagonal equidistant supports, one of which is shown in FIG. 2, these supports forming part of the complete frame of the tent completed by the longitudinal tie rods described below. Each pentagonal support comprises two transverse tie rods 10 and 11 forming the roof rafters, these rafters being articulated, as can be seen more particularly in FIG. 5 on the corresponding bifurcated arms of a ridge piece constituted by an angle element 12. The transverse tie rods each comprise for this purpose a flat iron extension 10a or 11a, directed towards the ridge piece 12 and penetrating into the corresponding bifurcated part of it.
Each of these flat iron extensions is articulated by means of a pivot or bolt 13 on the corresponding arm of the ridge piece. When the transverse tie rods are aligned with these ends of the ridge piece 12, as shown in FIG. 5 for the left tie rod 10, the two openings 14 and 14 'in the form of keyholes, formed in the flat iron extension 10a or 11a on the one hand, and in the corresponding arm of the ridge piece 12 on the other share, come opposite each other. It is thus possible to introduce a retaining key 21 carried by a chain fixed to the ridge piece 12 in these facing openings, only one of these keys being shown in FIG. 5, so that the tie rod 10 or 11 is maintained in its working position aligned with the arm of the ridge piece 12.
At the outer ends of the side tie rods 10 and 11 are articulated the side posts 15 and 16; this articulation is ensured by welding a field fishplate 17 on the end of the tie rod 10 or 11 and by welding a similar fishplate 18 at the upper end of the post 15 or 16. The fishplates corresponding to each articulation between a post and a transverse tie rod are articulated one on the other by a pivot or bolt 19 and, for this purpose, they also comprise openings 17a and 18a, in the form of keyholes, coming opposite one of the 'other, when the post 15 or 16 comes into its service position relative to the transverse tie rod.
This service position of the posts 15 or 16 of a support, for which the latter are slightly inclined towards each other, is defined by virtue of each post considered having, at the end facing the tie rod, a folded end 20 abuts in the service position considered on the corresponding end of the tie rod, 10 or 11 as the case may be, this tie rod being tubular as shown. Safety keys 21, of the type shown in FIG. 5, allow the side posts 15 and 16 to be fixed in the service position described.
The lower part of each post 15 or 16 comprises, as can be seen more particularly in FIG. 8, a point 15b or 16b coming into engagement with the ground, this coming into engagement with the ground being such that the ground forms a stop for the flange 15c or 16c integral with the upper end of the corresponding point 15 or 16. The supports pentagonal described above, and some details of which have been ignored for clarity, can be folded to take the folded position shown in fig. 3. The various elements, namely the posts and the tie rods, are advantageously constituted by tubes of light metal.
The tent in accordance with FIG. 1 as follows - First, the supports are placed on the ground at intervals determined in advance, while the transverse tie rods 10 and 11 are kept in their relative open position.
- This being done, the supports comprising the posts 15 and 16 are tilted, which are still folded inwardly around the latter, so that said supports are in vertical planes and they are spaced one relative to the 'other. For this bracing, use is made of longitudinal tie rods 22, one of which is shown separately at
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
pin 4. These longitudinal tie rods 22 have at each end a hook 22a intended to penetrate into a corresponding eyelet 23, integral with the ridge piece 12 (pin 5) to be braced.
- The tarpaulin or tent canvas is then placed on the supports thus partially assembled and maintained in the desired relative position by the longitudinal tie rods connecting the ridge pieces, after which all the transverse lateral poles 15 on one side of the tent are lifted and they are fixed in their service position, as described above.
- When the various supports have been braced with respect to each other by means of other longitudinal tie rods interposed between the articulations of the posts 15 and of the transverse tie rods 10 of the various supports, we finally proceed in the same way with the posts 16 of the opposite side of the different supports, so that the tent is permanently mounted and usable after bracing the supports between the joints between said posts 16 and the tie rods 11, and after certain safety measures such as anchoring the feet of the posts 15 and 16 in the ground, the guying of the ridge pieces 12 of the first and the last support by means of ropes 24, as shown in fig 1, etc ...
