<EMI ID=3.1>
<EMI ID=4.1>
<EMI ID=5.1>
<EMI ID=6.1>

ALLOY FOR WELDING.
The present invention, due to Mr. René D. Wasserman, relates to alloys for welding; its main purpose is to provide an economical and efficient alloy for brazing, brazing and other similar operations to be carried out on steel, sheet metal, profiles ;, tubes ,. etc., of copper, brass, bronze, cast iron, nickel or its alloys.
The subject of the invention is an alloy for welding characterized as
<EMI ID = 1.1>
10.2% up to about 18% by weight of nickel, 0.1 to 1% of at least one deoxidizing agent capable of increasing the hardness of the alloy, and zinc for the remainder. The alloy thus formed is endowed with unusual mechanical strength and hardness, but at the same time has the advantage of retaining excellent fluidity during brazing or similar operations and of having a very strong affinity for materials. ferrous and steel. In addition to these outstanding mechanical and physical qualities, it possesses to a very high degree the ability to penetrate into the base metal.
The alloy forming the subject of the invention is particularly suitable
<EMI ID = 2.1>
by high temperatures.
The ternary copper-nickel and zinc alloy may contain, in addition to one or more deoxidizing agents such as silicon, phosphorus or other similar elements, an addition of tin, cadmium or manganese, these metals being taken separately or in combination.
<EMI ID = 3.1>
When, in order to give the alloy additional physical properties, one or more of the metals tin, cadmium and manganese are added, the content of these ingredients can advantageously be between 0.1% for
<EMI ID = 4.1>
On the other hand, it is preferable that the composition of the alloy is in the following proportions: copper content equals four
at five times the nickel content and the zinc content is also four to five times the nickel content but remaining somewhat lower than the copper content.
<EMI ID = 5.1>
<EMI ID = 6.1>
If any or all of the above additional ingredients were added, the zinc content would decrease proportionally.
The alloy which is the object of the invention can be molded in the form of rods which can be used for brazing, preferably on steel or other ferrous metals. This alloy has, in addition to high tensile strength and other appreciable characteristics, mechanical and physical properties superior to those of similar welds known heretofore.
CLAIMS
