   Fig. 2 est une vue en plan correspondante.

     On comprend aisément que,le véhicule étant amené en direction

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  LIFT DEVICE FOR MOTOR VEHICLES-,
The present invention relates to piston elevators used for lifting motor vehicles in order to provide access to the underside thereof for inspection, lubrication and repair.

   The usual elevators comprising a platform provided either with two rails on which are placed by means of suitable supports the es- ss of the vehicle, or, with two tracks for- the wheels. of the vehicle do not allow easy access to all parts. and .11 in particular do not release the suspension components. They require the vehicle to be oriented in a specific direction - and to be centered -. They also require recesses in the ground which can be dangerous for the personnel.

   According to the invention which aims to overcome these drawbacks 1-'élévateur comprises, by way of platform. '/ A central support on which are mounted pivoting arms, preferably four in number, - por - each being a slide fitted with a carrier buffer -, - lined for example with rubber.

   Thanks to the pivoting of the arms and the sliding of the slides, it is possible to position the buffers so as to easily reach the parts of the vehicles which are suitable for gripping. The central support is preferably in the form of a spider, which allows the underside of the vehicle to which it is desired to have access to be cleared as much as possible.

   One embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing.

   Fig. 1 is a section showing the device in elevation.

   Fig. 2 is a corresponding plan view.

   In the drawing, 1 shows the elevator column mounted in a known manner on a hydraulically or otherwise moved piston. At the top of column 1 is fixed. a sturdy cross-2-, each branch of which is provided at its end with a pivot 3 on which an arm 4 can turn which serves as a slide for a block or slide 5 carrying a buffer 6 of more or less elastic material , for example- wood or preferably- rubber-.

     It is easily understood that, the vehicle being driven in the direction of

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 any above the spider, it is easy to rotate the arms 4 and to bring by sliding of the blocks 5 the buffers 6 below the frames suitable for lifting the vehicle. After lifting the column, the crisscross leaves free almost the entire lower part of the vehicle to all the parts to which free access is thus permitted, the suspension also being released, since the vehicle is no longer resting on its wheels. or his essentials. On the ground, it suffices to provide a recess of reduced dimensions, corresponding to those of the cross member.

   The device according to the invention is suitable for all types of piston elevators and it also has the advantage of being usable as a jack for lifting only the front, the rear or one side of the vehicle.

   Modifications can obviously be made to the exemplary embodiment shown without departing from the scope of the invention. Thus, the central support may have a large stick or a smaller number of branches; it can, in particular, be reduced to a simple bar carrying two pivots to each of which is articulated an arm such as 4.
