<EMI ID=1.1>
<EMI ID=2.1>

<EMI ID=15.1>

When we want to perform economically and with precision in small, medium or large series of bores or bores in mechanical parts, we usually use
<EMI ID = 1.1>
often complicated and always expensive.
These assemblies consist of a support on which are fixed, at the desired spacings, channels guiding the drill or the boring tool and do not include as many channels as there are holes to be made.
The shapes of the parts being diverse, the spacings and the diameters of the holes being variable, it follows that it is necessary to have at its disposal as many assemblies as there are different types of parts to be machined.
The present invention relates to a universal device making it possible to drill or bore with precision and for mass production, holes with parallel axes, without the use of an assembly. With this device, it suffices, to switch from one type of part to another, to replace a small number of parts, usually no more
<EMI ID = 2.1>
In the case of drilling assemblies, each assembly has its own chimneys; in the application of the new universal device, a set of bored chimneys of the current dimensions is sufficient for drilling or boring all types of parts.
The new device is characterized in principle by the combination of a jig secured to the workpiece-carrying table, having holes distributed exactly as on the workpiece, and a movable finger, of adjustable position, placed in front of the jig, in such a way that if we move the table so that the finger falls in
a hole in the template, the axis of the hole to be drilled has come into coincidence with the axis of the spindle.
The invention has many other characteristics which will emerge from the description below with reference to the appended drawing, given by way of example only.
In this drawing:
Fig. 1 shows an elevational view of the s e mb le.
Fig. 2 is a plan view,

drilling or reaming, is mounted in the spindle B carried by a
<EMI ID = 4.1>
with a base, not shown, constitutes the main frame of the machine.
The table T, on which the workpiece is fixed, can be moved along two perpendicular axes 1, 2 (Fig. 2) relative to its support S, itself mobile vertically as usual.
On the table T of the machine, or, as in the example shown, on a support a integral with this table, is fixed a template made of thin sheet G which is easily removable.

tre, all of the same size, and the arrangement of which exactly reproduces that of the bores or bores to be made on the workpiece.
On the upright M of the machine is fixed an articulated assembly capable of being adjusted vertically to adapt to the various vertical positions of the table.
This set consists of an arm b articulated in

can slide in a support 6 in which it can be blocked by a nut 7. The support 6 can slide and turn on a vertical bar 8 parallel to the bar 4.
On the arm b can be moved horizontally a slide which can be blocked by nuts 10 and 11. This slide carries a finger consisting of a spring lock V whose end strongly
<EMI ID = 8.1>
We understand that if we point, with the lock V successively the holes of the reproducer, by moving the table carrying the part, we obtain in position on the part the exact reproduction of the drilling of the template *
The vertical adjustment of the set b, c, V
takes place by sliding the arm b and the support 6 of

It is necessary, in order to completely replace the drilling assemblies and to obtain with the new process a precision equal to that given by them,
guide the drilling and reaming tool so that it does not deflect during work.
A guide ring is available for this purpose
of the tool o carried by a telescope L which is held by a support m
The operator therefore only needs to have a single set of guide rings with current dimensions, to machine all the diameters required by production *
<EMI ID = 11.1>
of this device is the following
It is fixed on the table T of the machine a first type part, on which in order to adjust the device, we have drawn two of the holes that this part receives.
<EMI ID = 12.1>
k, to adjust the height of the assembly, then by slide-

tion of the lock V, so that each of the two holes traced on the type part having been brought into the axis of the spindle successively, the lock is in the corresponding holes of the template G; to do this we move the part slightly if necessary, on the table T. We then lock all the nuts.
<EMI ID = 14.1>
height of the center of the telescope L.
<EMI ID = 15.1>
the table T is moved so as to bring the lock V successively in front of each hole of the jig. It suffices that it be approximately opposite this hole so that, thanks to the conical shape of this lock and the holes of the template, the finishing of the exact positioning of the part takes place automatically.
When the bolt has fallen into a hole in the jig, the corresponding hole is drilled or reamed on the part, and so on.
6 [deg.] / To work the other parts, each of them is successively placed exactly in the position of the first by the usual means (wedges, centering, etc.); no tracing is necessary.
When it is desired to change the type of part to be machined, with holes of different spacing, it is sufficient to replace the reproducing jig G with an appropriate one.
The combination described above does indeed form a universal device exhibiting significant savings.
on the usual drilling assemblies.
Indeed, on the one hand, the only part to be replaced to switch from one type of part to another consists of an inexpensive template. On the other hand, in ordinary systems each assembly usually has its own guide rings, ie for ten assemblies intended to each drill ten holes a hundred chimneys in total. For the application of the present invention, all that is required is a single set of chimneys of current dimensions and the number of which is much smaller.
Other advantages of the device described reside on the one hand in the fact that in the course of manufacture, it is possible without great expense to move a hole or add another additional one. This operation on drilling rigs, when possible is. generally very expensive. These bearing only bosses at the places originally receiving the guide ring, it is necessary in the event of a change, to bring back parts of complicated shape to hold the rings in the new position or the new guide rings. On the other hand, with the device described, the machined part is constantly visible, while in the case of using drilling fixtures, the part being machined is hidden by the mask carrying the guide rings.
