  Solutions insecticides.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

  Insecticidal solutions.

   The present invention relates to insecticide solutions based on organic active compounds such as hexachlorcyclohexane, dichlordiphenyl trichloroethane, etc., which can be advantageously used for spraying in inhabited places, apartments, public establishments, etc.

   There are many solvents, kerosene, benzene, alcohols, etc., which allow the preparation of relatively concentrated solutions of these organic insecticides. These solutions can be used for the preparation of aqueous emulsions or suspensions.

   When these concentrated solutions have been obtained by dissolving the active element in a solvent miscible with water, it is also possible to prepare more dilute solutions by adding a certain quantity of water. Nevertheless, it is observed that the solubility of the insecticide decreases very rapidly when

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 increases the amount of water present in the solvent mixture, so that a significant amount of solvent is still required to solubilize relatively small amounts of the insecticide.

   Dissolving 2 gr. of isomeric hexachlorcyclohexane [gamma] or 2 gr. of DDT in one Kgr of acetone-water mixture can only be carried out on condition that this mixture contains 425 or 550 g of acetone respectively. Such solutions are very expensive due to the high cost of the solvent.

    On the other hand, the spraying and evaporation in inhabited areas of such large quantities of solvent causes a generally unpleasant odor and atmosphere.

   The object of the present invention is the preparation of aqueous solutions containing a sufficiently active quantity to obtain the desired insecticidal effect by using only reduced quantities of water-miscible solvent.

   According to the invention, these solutions are obtained by dissolving the active organic compound in a miscible solvent-water mixture, to which has been added 4 to 10% by weight of an ether oxide of general formula R - u - P in which R represents a hydrocarbon radical whose sum of atomic weights is at least equal to luu and P a polyethylene glycol having at least 8 atoms of C.

   The Applicant has observed that, by applying this process, it is possible to reduce to 150 g / kg the quantity of solvent necessary to completely dissolve 2 g. of hexa-chlorcyciohexane isomer Y or 2 g of DDT in one kg of solvent-water mixture.

   Acetone, diacetone alcohol, ethyl alcohol, ethyl acetate or any other solvent having a hydrophilic functional group can in particular be used as solvents.
