<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
tible utilise.
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>

Fireplace-boiler
There are various types of hearth-boilers in the hulls: The fuel is brought continuously on a jerry can on which it is gasified. To this end, fresh air is injected into the fuel through openings in the grid.
However, these hearth-boilers are not entirely satisfactory; in particular, it is very difficult to obtain a complete and regular gasification of the fuel, especially when the heating power of the boiler has to be regulated by
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
view to obtain a constant temperature of the water, or a constant pressure of the vapor.
Certain manufacturers have improved the operation of these hearth-boilers by placing a heat-insulated wall opposite the grill, thanks to which the radiation of the hearth could be maintained at a higher value. These hearth-boilers are on the one hand of difficult construction and, on the other hand, do not allow the manufacture of all types of boilers required by industries for the production of hot water and steam.
The object of the present invention is a furnace-boiler, which eliminates the drawbacks cited by the fact that it comprises a combustion chamber constituted by a hollow body with a horizontal axis, having two end walls, one of which is crossed by an evacuation channel opening into the upper zone of the combustion chamber, this hollow body having, in its lower part, a gutter, the generatrices of the walls of which are parallel to the generators of the internal walls of said hollow body , this gutter opening into the combustion chamber and being intended to allow the formation of a mass of fuel inside and in the lower zone of the combustion chamber,
air intake openings made in the side walls of the gutter and connected by a duct to a blower making it possible to inject, into this pile of fuel, the air necessary for its distillation and for the combustion of the distillation gases, this pile of fuel
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
promoting the creation of a high temperature zone located in its central part, the depth of the gutter and therefore the height of the mass being such that the temperature of this zone reaches the temperature necessary for the complete distillation of the fuel, and the air being injected in excess, so as to allow the complete combustion in the combustion chamber, before their evacuation, of the distillation gases being given off therein.
This hearth-boiler may include at least one inclined grid, at the bottom of which the gutter opens, air intake orifices, connected to the blower, which can be made in this grid and water chambers arranged in the walls of the hollow body.
The furnace-boiler may include two inclined grids formed by the parts of the inclined side walls of the hollow body situated below the horizontal median plane of the latter, the gutter being arranged between the two grids and at the bottom of the latter. In addition, it may include a hopper, intended to receive a reserve of fuel, fixed to the hollow body and above the latter, this hopper being able to be connected to the interior space of the body by corridors passing through the walls. side of the latter and opening onto the grids approximately at the height of the horizontal median plane of the hollow body.
Bars for water circulation can be placed in the bottom of the gutter and the corridors connecting the hopper to the interior space of the body can be provided with registers with adjustable positions, while the pipe
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
connecting the blower to the air intake orifices can be fitted with an orifice with an adjustable section opening directly to the outside.
The hollow body can be a cylindrical body of circular cross sections or not, closed downwards and the bottom of the gutter can be surrounded by a water chamber or be constituted by a removable wall under which is arranged an ashtray, the fuel being retained on bars with water circulation arranged in the lower part of the gutter.
The hearth-boiler may include in its upper wall an orifice normally closed by a cover, this orifice being intended to allow rapid transformation of the hearth-boiler into an all-fuel hearth.
The appended drawing shows, by way of example and schematically, an embodiment of the furnace-boiler forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a transverse section of a first embodiment, taken along line 1-1 of FIG. 2.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section along line II-II of fig 1.
Fig 3 is a front view of a second embodiment, the right half being seen in section.
Fig. 4- is a view in longitudinal section along line IV-IV of fig. 3.
The furnace-boiler shown in fig. 1 and 2 is intended for the production of high pressure steam and for supplying the hearth with coal dust or braisettes. As these fuels do not form ash, no
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
ashtray is not needed. The furnace-boiler comprises a cylindrical hollow body 1 of circular section and horizontal axis. In the thickness of the walls are arranged water chambers connected to a heating circuit by conduits 16 and 17. The front end wall of this body or the front face of the furnace-boiler is formed by a panel. hollow king provided with a hearth door 3 comprising a firewall 4. The interior space of this wall communicates with the other water chambers of the body 1.
The rear end wall of the body 1 is crossed by an exhaust channel 15 for the burnt gases opening directly into the combustion space 2 above the horizontal median plane. This wall is also hollow like the other walls of the body 1 and the chambers formed in its thickness are connected with the water circuit.
A hopper 18, intended to receive a reserve of fuel, is fixed on the body l. Corridors 21, approximately of width equal to the length of the interior wall of the hearth, pass through the walls of the cylinder approximately at the height of its horizontal diametral plane and connect the interior space of the body 1 to the interior space. of the hopper 18. The fuel flow is regulated by means of registers 29. The passage section of these registers is determined for the largest dimension of the calibrated fuel grains that it is possible to use.
A shutter sector 22, with an adjustable position with respect to this register 29, makes it possible to choose and fix the section of the free passage of this register according to the calibration of the fuel.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
tible used. The inner side walls located below the horizontal diametral plane constitute an inclined grid 10, in which openings 10a are formed which are connected, by pipes and 7, to a blower (not shown). These pipes are placed in the side water chan- ners so that the air passing through them is heated before being injected into the fuel.
In the lower median part of the body 1, on either side of the vertical median plane and at the foot of the grills, a void is left which constitutes a gutter whose axis is arranged along a generatrix of the internal wall. This gutter opens into the combustion chamber and is intended to allow the creation of a pile of fuel.
This gutter has, in the lower zone of its side walls, openings 10b connected to the pipes 9.
A pressurized air distribution chamber 6 is arranged on the rear wall. This chamber 6 is supplied with pressurized air by a blower (not shown), connected at the end of a pipe 5, and provides access to two pipes 7 through openings each comprising a control valve 8. Finally, a control valve. adjustment 'la allows the flow rate of an orifice 7b opening directly to the outside to be adjusted.
The operation of the fireplace-boiler represented and described is as follows:
The hopper 18 being loaded with fuel in the form of grains, preferably calibrated, this fuel flows through the corridors 21 and slides on the internal walls.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
inclined from the hearth. These walls each constitute an inclined grill provided with openings for the admission of the air necessary for gasification of the fuel and for complete combustion in the combustion chamber 2 of the products of the distillation. As soon as the fuel arrives near the uppermost row of openings 10a, it begins to be gasified.
In this zone of the grate, the layer of fuel being weak, only the volatile distillation gases escape and are burned in the combustion chamber 2.
As the fuel reaches lower regions of the grate, the thickness of the fuel layer being greater, the temperature of the fuel increases. It follows that as the fuel descends along the grate, higher temperature and therefore less volatile distillates are released and are burnt in combustion chamber 2. Finally, when the fuel reaches the bottom of the grate, it forms in the gutter created between the two grids a fuel mass 20, in which the temperature reaches a maximum. The gasification of this mass is activated by the gasification. air injected through the openings 10b. The temperature prevailing in this cluster is obviously a function of the thickness of the fuel layer.
To obtain the complete distillation and gasification of the fuel, it is therefore sufficient to increase the temperature of this cluster 20 while increasing its thickness.
For this, it suffices to let a greater quantity of fuel flow over the grids, by opening the registers 29 until the temperature inside this cluster is sufficient to distill the less volatile products.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
The oxygen in the air, injected through the openings 10a and 10b, which has not been used for the gasification of the co: .- bustible, mixes in chamber 2 with the distillation gases and allows their complete combustion. in this room.
The burnt gases escape through the exhaust nozzle 15.
We can therefore see that thanks to the gutter, it is always possible, whatever the fuel used, and the heating power required, to obtain a complete distillation and gasification of the fuel, as well as the complete combustion of the gases produced in the fuel. bedroom 2.
The opening of the regulating valves 8 and 7a determines the quantity of air injected through the openings 10a and 10b, the blower still operating at its normal flow rate.
Ultimately, to modify the heating power of the boiler, it suffices to simultaneously modify the position of the valves 8 and 7a and of the registers 29.
The furnace-boiler shown in fig. 3 and 4 comprises a hollow body l of horizontal axis with hollow walls, in the thickness of which are arranged water chambers connected 'CI- a heating circuit by pipes 16 and 17.
The upper part of this body is in the torso of an arc of a circle, while its lower part comprises two inclined lateral elements which rest on a base 19. The front end wall of this body or the front face of the hearth the boiler is formed by a hollow wall provided with a hearth door 3 comprising a fire screen 4. The interior space of this wall is in communication with the other water chambers of the body 1.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The interior space of the hollow body 1 constitutes the combustion chamber 2. The interior walls of the inclined lateral elements constitute the grid 10 in which openings 10a are formed, connected by pipes 9 and 7 to the blower (not shown). These pipes are placed in the water chambers of the inclined side elements so that the air passing through them is heated before being injected into the fuel.
In the lower median part of the body 1 on either side of the vertical median plane and at the foot of the grills, a void is left which constitutes a gutter, the generatrices of the walls of which are parallel to the generatrices of the internal walls of the hollow body 1 This gutter opens into the combustion chamber and is intended to allow the creation of a mass of corabustible. This gutter has, in its side walls, openings 10b connected to the pipes 9. The bottom of this gutter is closed by a closure plate 14, engaged in slides 14a., And which passes through the front wall of the base 19. .
This closure plate can be removed so as to allow the ash to fall into an ashtray 12, through the hollow bars 11 intended to retain the fuel and arranged in the lower part of the gutter. The interior void of these bars 11 is in communication with the water chambers of the body 1.
A door 13, provided in the front wall of the base, gives access to the ashtray and allows the ashes to be removed.
The rear end wall of the body 1 is through
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
poured through the exhaust channel 15 of the burnt gases opening directly into the combustion space 2 above the horizontal median plane. This wall is also hollow 8. like the other walls of the body 1 and the chambers forced into its thickness are connected with the water circuit.
On this rear wall is also fitted the pressurized air distribution chamber 6. This chamber 6 is supplied with pressurized air by the blower (not shown), connected at the end of the pipe 5, and gives access to the two pipes 7 through openings each provided with a control valve o. 'Finally, a regulating valve' enables the flow rate of an orifice 7b to be adjusted directly to the outside.
Corridors 21 pass through the walls of the hollow body and open into space 2 at the level of the start of the upper part in the arc of a body l. that is, approximately at the height of the horizontal median plane. These corridors 21 connect the space 2¯ to a thirty (not shown) fixed on the body l. Each lane 21 is provided with a register 29 for adjusting the fuel flow.
The operation of this fireplace-boiler is in all respects similar to that described above with reference to fig. 1 and 2.
If the fuel used is coal (coal dust, braisettes). the shutter plate 14 is closed. The stibles do not form any shutter Ce! 7-que 14. These fuels do not form any fire, no ash removal is necessary. : The fuel then rests on the bars with water circulation

11, some fine elements falling on the blanking plate 14.
If the used material is an ash-forming fuel, the shutter plate 14 is opened. The fuel rests on the water-circulating bars, and the ashes fall into the ashtray 12.
The furnace-boiler shown in the drawing fig. 3 and 4 also comprises, in its upper part, a cover 25 closing off an orifice 26. When the furnace-boiler is supplied with fuels in the form of fine grains (braisets), this cover is firm (as shown in the drawing). , the fuel supply being effected through the corridors 21. On the other hand, when the fuel intended for supplying the fireplace is constituted by. fuel in relatively large pieces, it cannot flow through the passageways 21. In this case, the cover 25 is removed and a hopper is placed on the furnace-boiler which fits over the orifice 26, and is closed off. corridors 21 and the blanking plate 14 is removed.
Thanks to this opening 26 and to the removable closure plate 14, it is possible to supply the hearth with woody product (wood, peat) and other fuels. However, when the furnace is supplied by opening 26, its efficiency is lower because the combustion of the distillation gases can no longer take place entirely in the combustion chamber 2, so that the ignited gases pass through the nozzle 15. Linking this opening 26 nevertheless makes it possible to quickly transform a furnace-boiler with complete gasification of a fine grain fuel into an all-fuel furnace.
