<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

"Hollow drill bit sucking up waste from drilling".
The invention relates to an oreux drill intended for drilling the stone having at the end which is introduced into the latter a suction hole, preferably inclined on the axis of the forest, 'reserved for the suction of drilling waste. In these drills the hollow borehole and suction hole are as large as possible so that dust formed during drilling and waste from the borehole which has a sufficiently large grain size can be removed. evacuated without danger of obstruction.
While the presence of a borehole passage and a suction hole already have as a corollary an appreciable decrease in the section of the drill bit, the location on the side of the hole suction requires a conformation of the section of the drill, .at the end which is introduced into the stone, which results in particularly unfavorable forces on the resistance. The consequence of this is that drills break very frequently in the area of the suction hole.
To remedy this defect, 'we have already reinforced the drills in the area of the suction hole, by. a nozzle that is placed on it. But this remedy has not worked for various reasons.
The arrangement of giving the drill a larger cross-section in the area of the suction hole was then tried out and for this purpose upsetting it accordingly during manufacture. However, it has been found that it is not possible to carry out this upsetting satisfactorily over the necessary length.
However, according to the invention, the difficulties encountered with known drills are reliably avoided by providing the suction hole in a part of the insertion end designed as a special part and more. thicker than the shank of the drill, part into which the shank of the drill is inserted, in a manner known per se, via its conical end. This new design, according to which the suction hole is made in a special insertion end, avoids all the difficulties which have been encountered so far.
The introduction end constitutes a special part, separate from the shank of the drill and completely independent of the latter and one can, therefore, without difficulty, give it the diameter which is required - to obtain sufficient strength. n separating the rod from the

drill itself from the end that one. introduced into the stone, all the difficulties which arose in the tests mentioned above, when the rod is driven back, are therefore avoided. from the drill bit to the insertion end.
The new conformation then makes it possible to spare in the shank of the drill which, at present, no longer contains an obliquely directed suction hole which has an unfavorable technical effect from the point of view of resistance, while observing the necessary resistance. , as large a borehole as possible. In this way, material is saved and the weight of the drill bit is reduced, thereby facilitating the operation of the device.
-In itself, it is not a new concept to form the introductory extract as a separate piece. This arrangement has already been adopted for water rinse drills. But the introduction end in which is also formed a suction hole inclined on the axis of the drill, in order to allow the arrival of the rinsing liquid and which is assembled by a cone with the rod The drill bit has, for known drills, a diameter which is not appreciably larger than the shank of the bit, but rather smaller than it.
This design is safe for known drills and can even be recommended in the interests of saving weight, because the channels reserved for the flushing liquid are only a few millimeters in diameter and do not therefore do not give rise to dangerous forces for the shank of the drill. It is for this reason that it was also possible to be satisfied also, in the area of the rinsing water channel directed obliquely outwards, with a diameter of the inlet end smaller than that of the shank of the drill.
In these rinsing drills, moreover, the special difficulties encountered in hollow drills for sucking up waste from the drilling are not encountered, having regard to the large diameter of the channel which is necessary.
Three exemplary embodiments of the arrangement according to the invention are illustrated by the drawing.
Figure 1 illustrates, partly in longitudinal section, partly in side view, the simplest form of the embodiment, while Figure 2 is a longitudinal section and Figure 3 a transverse section taken along the line I - I of an improvement of the embodiment according to FIG. 1. A third exemplary embodiment is illustrated by FIG. 4, in connection with FIG. 3.
In the shank of the drill a of Fig. 1 there is provided a right through passage b of relatively large diameter.
The end to be inserted is designed as a separate part g which is fixed by a four-sided or a hexagonal in the internal lining of the drill. To compensate for the decrease in resistance of the obliquely downwardly directed suction channel f, the insertion end g is considerably thicker than the drill in the region of this channel. The fixing of the drill bit a in the introduction end takes place in the simplest way by inserting the conical end c of the drill bit into a passage with corresponding taper d of the part g. If the diameter of the drill shank is 20 to 28 mm, the hollow passage b and channel f have a diameter of 10 to 14 mm, while the insertion end g has a diameter of 34 mm or more.
In the second exemplary embodiment (figure '2), the upper end section c, c1 of the shank of the drill a in which a longitudinal passage b is formed continues with a prismatic section c1 with six sides and by the cone o surrounded by the conical passage d. The extension of the form passage
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
then the oblique hole f reserved for the suction of waste from the drilling. The formation of the prismatic section c1 is simple.
The shank a is stamped in the shape of a hexagon and the hexagon in the shape of a cone is chariote to the length of the section o. 'we choose a gradient of the cone c such that a calibration in d is not possible.
Rotation of the rod a in the introduction end g gl is thus avoided and, at the same time, an easy and inexpensive security is provided due to the fact that the prismatic zone c @ is surrounded by a cylindrical bush h whose passage is reported exactly on the section of zone cl. This sleeve is introduced into a cylindrical passage of the part gl of the introduction end g and it is fixed there by any means, for example by screwing it.
In the third embodiment (Figure 4; the cone c is short and condensed. Between it and the hexagonal c1 the end of the drill bit (d1) retains the circular section of the shank (a). the hexagon does not heat the entire end of the drill, but only a ring-shaped part of it which is thickened by pushing it back and which is stamped.
