"Process for the Preparation of a Foaming Agent".
-------------------------------------------------- --------
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a foam-producing agent, in particular for obtaining air foam intended for extinguishing fires. The foam-producing agent prepared according to the process according to the invention differs from the foam-producing agents heretofore usually employed for producing air foam, particularly in that the foams obtained therewith exhibit a high quality. significantly better stability and resistance to heat and other physical and chemical influences than foams heretofore known.
The foam-producing agent prepared according to the process according to the invention is therefore particularly suitable for those cases where it is necessary to combat flaming bodies which are difficult to extinguish, such as, for example, alcohol, aromatic hydrocarbons and others. other analogous bodies.
The method according to the invention consists in that
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a foaming agent obtained by attacking proteins or bodies containing one or more proteins, a small percentage of a soluble aluminum compound is added. It has been found that already very small additions of suitable aluminum compounds suffice to increase
EMI2.1
notably the stability of foams which can be prepared Corbonamt by means of substanceSyae6protêins.
The process according to the invention can be carried out, for example, in the following manner: one adds, while stirring, a solution prepared by dissolving 20 g. of aluminum hydroxide in the necessary amount of acetic acid, at 1000 gr. of a neutral solution, desulphurized and thickened until reaching the specific weight of 1.15, of foam-producing agent obtained by attacking 500 gr. of substance containing one or more keratins by means of 75 gr. lime, and neutralized by adding sodium hydroxide solution.
500 gr. of this solution of foaming agent dissolved in 10 liters of water gives, on conversion to foam by means of a suitable air foam generator, an extremely tenacious foam, which separates from the foam. liquid contained therein about two to three times slower than a foam obtained under the same conditions from a solution of equal strength without the addition of aluminum salt. The aluminum salt can, however, be added the foaming agent in another form as well, for example in the form of aluminum lactate.
Although it has no essential influence on the properties
EMI2.2
However, whether aluminum salts of inorganic or organic acids are used, the use of organic acid salts has proved particularly suitable.
