L'invention consiste principalement à constituer les dits moyens par un piston,en fonte,en acier,en aluminium ou en toute autre matière,alliage ou composition,en une ou plusieurs pièces de matièreidentique ou différente;

Desoriptive brief filed in support of an invention patent application by Mr. Albert A. Lambotte, 20, avenue du Château d'Eau, in Saventhem. Improvement of the means to avoid wear, in particular the ovalization of the pistons and displacement, and to reduce the power losses by friction and heating.
The invention mainly consists in constituting said means by a piston, made of cast iron, steel, aluminum or any other material, alloy or composition, in one or more pieces of identical or different material;
, of spherical, hemispherical or cylindrical shape with a flat bottom, hemispherical, convex, concave, conical, combining several of these shapes or of any shape generally any, provided or not with one or more sealing or scraping segments or both species simultaneously, placed at the top, bottom or in one or more places of the piston. On this piston and more particularly on the skirt, that is to say on the cylindrical part between the head or the upper segments and the bottom , will be provided one or more grooves, cavities, hollows, channels or channels, of shape, depth, length, width, direction whatever,
intended to retain the oil or lubricating material. This lubricant will be brought into these grooves or other cavities in any way permitted depending on the construction and destination of the machine; and it will be released in the same way.
@
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
For example, in an internal combustion explosion engine, the lubricant can be picked up simply on the walls of the cylinder during the reciprocation of the piston; it can
EMI2.1
um n ,, to be brought by the scraping of one eu of several ex> oeff * wNé ¯ special segments called scrapers or by one had several ordinary segments acting as roleurs; it can be brought by the inside of the piston , for example in the form of oil vapor, droplets or by projection subsequent to the bubbling of the connecting rods, through one or more orifices of any shape and size communicating with said grooves or other cavities; it can also be brought under pressure via the connecting rod and the piston pin;
finally anyway, generally whatever. In other machines not provided or partially provided with water envelopes, for example in a pump or in a compressor, the lubricant can be brought by any lubricator placed on the cylinder and accessible from outside.
The other features of the invention will emerge from the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings indicating, by way of non-limiting examples, various embodiments of the object of the invention.
FIG. I shows a piston with two helical grooves opening out from lower- and upper / circular grooves.
These latter grooves could be pierced with holes communicating with the inside of the piston, they could be provided with segmenta. Two grooves are indicated, there could be only one at a slow step or several at no more
EMI2.2
The circular grooves could be replaced U by openings opening inside the roof 1, the helio8idalee grooves could be slow or fast and lead to. any place in the pieten.
Figure 2 shows a piston with two pairs of helical grooves with reverse pitch opening out on the one hand from a circular groove and on the other hand from an elongated orifice communicating with the interior of the pedestrian.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
that above could apply as to the shape, the number, the pitch, the direction of the grooves, the number and the shape of the orifices and the segments.
FIG. 3 shows a piston with a relatively large quantity of cavities or indentations such as, for example, those obtained by knurling.
Figure 4 shows a piston with recesses arranged in a staggered fashion. The shape of these recesses, their number, their direction, their disposition can vary infinitely. All or any number of these recesses could be pierced with a hole or orifice towards the inside of the piston.
Finally, the location of these hollows, grooves, cavities, channels or channels is not limited and may extend over one or more
EMI3.1
'ruiw ,, t parts or over the entire surface of the piston.Figure 5, for example, shows a piston whose rather closely spaced helical grooves and with rapid pitch debau at the bottom of the skirt and figure 6 a piston with grooves of the same kind with guide ramps for the lubricant collected on the walls of the cylinder towards the said grooves.
Figure 7 shows a piston with circular grooves joined by staggered vertical grooves. The vertical grooves can be replaced by one or more grooves arranged in another way and even be eliminated.
EMI3.2
W'f ,, '' N²jt. several circular grooves 8J.1'8'ilaiil'8S could be t'I.ÎIrM. "pierced with orifices towards the inside of the piston. Finally, the number of circular grooves is not limited.
Regarding the arrival of lubricant, figure 8 shows a piston in which the lubricant is brought under pressure via the small end. The grooves start from the free spaces left by the piston pin. Figure 9 shows a cylinder compressor fitted with a grease nipple accessible from the outside, the lubricant is injected when the piston is near bottom dead center and at a standstill.
EMI3.3
dead end without communication with the interior of the piston,
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
they become saturated with oil before starting. They may eventually lead to the piston pin and contribute to the lubrication of said pin.
Figure 10 shows orifices in windows made in the bottom of the piston skirt by which the lubricant, closes us from oil vapor, from droplets or from bubbling projections, or in any other way, will enter the walls. of the cylinder and in the grooves. These orifices may be of any other shape and of any other number than indicated on the drawing.
