<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Ici encore on donnera à l'anneau toute forme appro- priée.

"Improvements made to automatic valves, especially those for piston pumps II.
The invention relates to automatic valves; and it concerns more particularly (because it is in their case that its application seems to offer the most interest), but not exclusively, among these components, those for piston pumps.
Its aim is above all to make these establishment members simpler as well as better sealing, and to allow greater operating speeds than up to. present.
It consists, mainly, in constituting the valves of the type in question by a shutter element itself constituted by at least a portion of an elastic ring applying itself on a seat that it closes as long as a pressure direction, causing deformation of the obturator element, does not move it away from the aforesaid seat.
It consists, apart from this main provision, of certain other provisions, which are used

Said elastic ring is formed, or else by one. coil, hollow or solid, made of a material having its own elasticity, for example rubber or foam rubber (fig. 1 to 3, 5 and 6), or else by a strip of a deformable material, for example leather , encircled by an elastic band bl, for example by a continuous coil spring (figo 4).
The aforesaid seat and ring are arranged in such a way that, when opening, the portions constituting the seat of the ring move, or else perpendicular or obliquely to the axis of the ring, in which case the elasticity of the ring can ensure the obturation without the ring having to come to rest against a stop, or else parallel to the aforesaid axis, in which case one provides, to keep the ring on its seat, a stop d , preferably annular (figo 5), the ring is established in such a way that it has sufficient compressibility to be able to leave a suitable passage for the fluid when it is subjected to the pressure which must determine the opening.
One gives, of course, on the one hand, to the lips of the light which must constitute the seat of the ring, and, on the other hand, to the portions of the surface of said ring which must come into contact with said lips, shapes corresponding to ensure a good contact between the surfaces which must ensure the seal = this effect, for example, the said parts, ie a shape widening in the direction in which the flow must be able to occur (from the inside to the outside in the case of discharge valves), for example a shape in a portion of a circle (fig. 1 and 5) or a wedge shape (fig. 3),
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
either a rectilinear shape (fig.
2) a stop, for example constituted by spaced bosses -9¯ / so 'provided on either side of the ring b in order to avoid its lateral movements, or any other suitable shape, the section the ring being, in each case, sufficient for the elastic tension applying it to its seat to ensure a good seal.
In the foregoing, it has been assumed that this was a discharge valve
In the case of an intake valve (fig. 6), of course, the elastic ring will be placed on the side of the inside of the cylinder and it will be given, advantageously, dimensions such as instead of being dilated when applied to its seat, it is found to be contracted slightly circumferentially.
All necessary precautions will be taken so that, during its contraction, the ring b substantially retains its circular shape. For this purpose, for example, will be provided ,, in the interior of the cylinder.des stops; [suitable for stopping the backward movement of the ring during suction.
Here again we give the ring any suitable shape.
Colitis it stands to reason, and as it does. spring from elsewhere. already from the foregoing, the invention is in no way limited to that of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts having been more particularly considered; on the contrary, it embraces all the variants, in particular:
those where application would be made of the invention to all other organs, than to pumps. piston, for example check valves., eta, oellea where. the element, shutter instead of being a complete ring, would only be a portion of the Panel, submitted to its two.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
ends to a force suitable for applying said element to its seat: those where the obturator element would be constituted by an elastic ring of which only a portion would serve for closing, the other serving by its elastic deformation , to ensure the application of the obturating portions on their seat:
, those where the shutter element, instead of being a circular ring, would have any other shape, for example would be oval, those, finally, where, in the case of pumps, the shutter element, instead of to be coaxial with the cylinder, would be arranged around a separate chamber @e the latter ..
