<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Description des moyens employés : La machine comprend :
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

BALL BEARING THROTTLES GRINDING MACHINE
The object of the invention is to improve the technical and economic point of view. production of rings for ball bearings with regard to the most important operation: the finishing of the groove by the process, known per se, of grinding with a grinding wheel.
The geometric generation of exactly defined surfaces of revolution has already been obtained by various systems of machines, to which the invention does not change anything and which are data of the problem.
The novelty of the means claimed as novel in the title of the invention consists in the realization of the points below, which will be examined in detail below: @
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
a) The angular speed of translation of the part relative to the grinding wheel is constant at all points of the oscillation. b) This speed can be modified in order to obtain two times or machining regimes, roughing, then finishing, with automatic alternation of these two times.
c) Advance of the grinding wheel in depth made continuous, so that the load or force applied to the grinding wheel remains constant. d) A suitable device automatically stops the advance of the grinding wheel in relation to the workpiece and enables the grinding wheel to carry out a finishing job, without advance, the duration of this last work being adjustable to will, which has the effect of canceling the flexions of the organs in play, or at least eliminating their influence by giving them a constant magnitude, this same mechanism then moves the grinding wheel away from the part when it is finished.
e) A device making it possible to compensate for the wear of the grinding wheel in order to maintain the desired dimensions of the finished part, without having to touch the components which concern the automatic operation of the assembly.
Description of the means employed: The machine comprises:
1 - An Inanimate workpiece carrier with an oscillating movement around axis 2 and arranged so that the center of generation of curve 3 can be made to coincide with said axis 2 (see fig. 4). and 5, which represent the working positions, the first: for the internal groove of an outer ring, the second for the outer groove of an inner ring).
2 - A melle carrier shaft 4, rotating at a suitable speed, which advances against the workpiece to allow the removal of the excess metal so as to bring the part 5 to the desired final dimension. The oscillation of the head
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
1 around axis 2 is caused by a pallet 6 wedged on axis 2 and housed in a body 7 secured to the base 8 of the machine.
This vane is driven by pressurized liquid (usually oil) supplied by a variable flow pump.
The operation is as follows: The liquid delivered by the pump 9 9 arrives through the piping 10 to a distributor spool 11 connected to the axis 2 by an appropriate linkage 12 and it is admitted alternately through the conduits 13 and 14 into the compartments A and Bidon thus to the pallet 6 an alternating pivoting movement.
It is obvious that the conduits 13 and 24 operate alternately on the intake and the exhaust.
The amplitude of the angle of oscillation of the vane 6, and therefore also of the oscillation of the head or headstock 1, can be adjusted at will by a device interposed on the linkage 12. It is clear that for a given flow rate of the pump 9 the oscillation of the headstock 1 takes place at constant speed.
The pump 9, which has a variable flow rate, as said above, is adjustable at will between zero and a certain maximum flow rate and makes it possible to instantly obtain any desired angular speed for the headstock 1, in order to achieve the working and performance conditions adapted to the dimensions of the grinding wheel and the workpieces. Thus the first point mentioned above is realized.
The grinding wheel 4 is mounted on a support 15 which is itself movable on a carriage 16. In the working position, the support 15 is immobilized on the carriage by a hooking lever 17 and it is pushed against the stop notch of this. lever by a spring or a counterweight 18.
The advance of the grinding wheel towards the workpiece is given by a differential screw 19.
The automatic advance system, of which the differential @is 19 constitutes one of the essential components, consists of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
elsewhere of the following elements: the screw 19 has two threaded parts, with different pitches; one of the threads attaches to the carriage 16, the other passes through a nut 20 mounted on the base 8.
It is obvious that by turning the screw 19, the latter will move axially in the nuts 20 and 16, thus giving the latter a translational movement relative to the fixed base, a movement whose magnitude for each turn of the screw is equal. the difference between the two threads of 1.si
The rotation of the screw 19 is controlled by a ratchet toothed wheel 21, mounted on the screw by sliding keying. This wheel 21 is actuated by pawls 22 and 23, mounted on the toggle levers 34 and 25, which a slide 26 is connected by connecting rods 27 and 28.
The slide 26 is directly driven by the axis 2 of the headstock 1, so that the advance of the grinding wheel is directly related to the angular movement of the headstock 1 and that each angular movement of the latter corresponds to a advance of the grinding wheel. The slide 26 enables the magnitude of this advance to be adjusted as desired. Point 3 '- of the preamble is thus achieved.
Coaxially with the toothed wheel 21 is mounted a second toothed wheel 29, which carries an adjustable latch 30 serving to automatically release the catch lever 17 which holds the carriage 16, when this occurs, the spring or against. -weight 18 moves the grinding wheel away from the finished part.
On the screw 19 is mounted a cam 32, the position of which can be adjusted at will and which serves to lift the pawls 22 and 23 away from the wheel 21, thus stopping the advance of the grinding wheel. cam allows the pawl 31, mounted on the toggle lever 25 to act on the toothed wheel 29; in this way, the bucket .50, previously adjusted accordingly, will act on the lever 17 when the wheel 29 has turned by a certain angle. 'This amounts to saying
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
that the grinding wheel will be removed from the workpiece after stopping the feed, according to a predetermined cycle, which cycle will be repeated identically at each repetition of the grinding operation.
Point 4 - of the preamble is thus realized.
On the screw 19 is also mounted a cam 2 ', 3, the position of which is adjustable at will, and which acts on the spool 34 at the moment when the cam 32 stops the advance of the grinding wheel.
The purpose of this slide 34 is to vary at this instant the flow rate of the pump 9, so as to reduce it by a certain amount, adjustable at will, to cause a reduction in the speed of oscillation of the workpiece carrier. 1, therefore a reduction in the translation speed of the part relative to the grinding wheel, which has the effect of giving a perfect finish to the work. The invention therefore fulfills point 2 - of the preamble.
The spool 34 allows the pressurized oil which arrives from the pump 9 to pass into one or the other of the conduits 35 and 36; these two conduits ended, at the ends of a cylinder 5'7, which directly attacks the flow variation mechanism of the pump 9. The extreme positions of the piston in the cylinder 37 correspond to;,: maximum and minimum flow rates of the pump, the intermediate positions give the intermediate flow rates and can be chosen and fixed absolutely at will.
The nut 20, housed in the base 8, can be rotated by an endless screw 38, engaged in a set of teeth made on the periphery of said nut; it is therefore thus possible to obtain, independently, the rotation of the screw 1¯9, an additional displacement of the grinding wheel relative to the workpiece, to compensate for the wear of the grinding wheel, without affecting the initial adjustment of the mechanisms of automatic advance, stop and reverse of the grinding wheel. The invention therefore also fulfills point 5 - mentioned in the preamble.
