<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Improvements to motor-driven tools or machines, of the type in which a rotational movement is imparted to an organ.
The invention relates to an arrangement of tools' or machines actuated by motor, of the type in which a rotational movement is imparted to a member by means of a device placed between a source of energy and the member. in question, such that a variable moment of torsion is transmitted to said member. The invention is essentially characterized in * that said arrangement is made so as to allow to transmit, alternately in one direction and the other, to said member a variable torque of torsion, so as to make the maximum moment greater in one way than the other. In this case, the arrangement can also be made in such a way that the mean value of the torque in one direction is greater than in the other direction.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
When it comes to the rotation of an organ which is opposed by a moment, the intermittent moment transmitted to this organ in one direction must be adjusted in such a way that it is greater than the antagonistic moment acting on the said organ, while the moment transmitted to this organ in the other direction must be less than the antagonistic moment acting in this direction.
With the aid of the varyingly acting moments, the member to be rotated will be subjected to great moments for short intervals of time with intermediate periods of rest.
When the invention is applied to drilling, milling, grinding or turning of nuts, screws or the like, a member actuated by a motor exerts a periodically variable asymmetric torque, in which the asymmetry is adjusted so as to allow that the maximum value of the torque transmitted to the tool (for example a tool to be drilled or reamed) in one direction (working direction) is greater than the moment (for example the shear moment) is op - posing to the action of the tool, while the maximum value of the torque transmitted in the other direction is less than or at most equal to the antagonistic moment (for example a friction moment) acting in this direction on the 'tool.
By this twisting moment acting in a variable way, the mean value of the motor moment and the moment transmitted to the component in question will be equal and, because of this fact, no additional moment needs to be added. be transmitted by the frame or the like, which is very important, for example in portable tools. According to the present invention, the worker who holds the tool does not have to receive or compensate for any reaction moment with his hands, as is the case, for example, in portable drilling machines in use until now. here, in which the drilling tool receives a movement

of continuous rotation by means of a gear mechanism or the like at a number of revolutions lower than that of the motor.
The application of the invention can be accomplished in many different ways, using several different kinds of energy storage devices.
The accompanying drawing represents several embodiments of the invention.
Fig.l is a longitudinal section of a portable drilling machine, established according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a section taken along line II-II of fig.l.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are similar cross sections of variants.
Fig.6 is a section taken along line VI-VI of Fig.5.
Referring to fig.l, it can be seen that 1 designates a frame provided with a handle 2. This frame contains the stator 3 of an electric motor, the rotor 4 of which is fixed to a shaft 5 mounted so to be able to turn in the frame. This shaft 5 is provided with a disc 6 or is connected thereto; this disc 6 comprises a certain number of rollers and weights 7 which, with the aid of pins 12, mounted so as to be able to slide in slots 11, are arranged so as to be able to be brought closer to or removed from the rotating shaft 5.
The rollers or weights 7 are surrounded by a guide member 8 mounted so as to. to be able to turn; this member 8 comprises a journal 9 for fixing a tool, and a part of said member 8, cooperating with the rollers 7, has a surface 10 shaped so as to force the ga -lets, during the rotation of the shaft 5 under the action of the motor 3, 4 to be imparted to the member 8 and, consequently, to the journal 9, intermittent rotary movements in one direction, the maximum value of these movements being greater than the moment of engine.
As can be seen from fig. 2, the surface 10 is con-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
formed so that each half of this surface comprises a part 101, the face of which, in the peripheral direction and from left to right, moves away from the shaft 5, and another part 102, the face of which approaches , also from left to right, of said journal.
Part 101 can advantageously extend over a much larger part of the circumference than part 102, and the sum of the maximum moment transmitted to the organ 8 has a certain relation to the ratio of the peripheral lengths. parts 101 and 102
The embodiment shown in fig. 3 and 4 differs from that shown in fig.l and 2 only in that the slots 11 formed in the disc 6 and supporting the rollers 7 by means of the pins 12 are slightly curved instead of be straight as in fig. 2. However, in all these embodiments the slots 11 are somewhat inclined, in order to reduce or eliminate the impacts between the pins 12 of the rollers 7 and the walls of the slots 11 when the rollers are moved towards the shaft 5, when transmitting intermittent moments to component 8.
In the form of construction shown in fig. 5 and 6, the rollers 7 are supported by levers 13 mounted so as to be able to rotate on the shaft 5 by means of pins 14.
In the drawing, the transmission of moments to member 8 is assumed to take place using centrifugal force.
However, this mode of actuation does not constitute a special feature of the invention, since the results sought by said invention can be obtained by using other forces, for example the force of springs or gravity. It is simply essential that the maximum value of the transmitted intermittent motion be greater than the mean moment of the power source, so that intermittent rotation is obtained against the influence of a moment which is greater than that which can be continuously overcome by the source of energy.
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
An arrangement made according to the present invention is particularly simple. It has only a small number of moving parts, and does not contain pinions, ratchets, or other parts that can easily deteriorate.
