<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

Terfectioonementa to gorgea rims.
Grooved rims are already known in which the throat is formed only on a part of the periphery of the rim in such a way that the deep part which is detrimental to the good maintenance of the tire in the rim, does not extend. only on a strictly necessary part of the circumference to allow mounting and dismounting of the tire.
. It is also proposed, for the same purpose, to form the groove of the groove by an eccentric circumference with respect to the center of the rim.
The assembly is carried out in both cases by the fact that the tire is placed in the deepest part of the rim, that is to say in the groove, the inner edge
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the tire being able, in this way, to pass over the rim of the rim and thus be mounted on the rim.
With this process, one was obliged to have a rim tape noticeably deeper on one side, which not only presented an unattractive appearance, but also gave rise to an uneven distribution of weight inside the rim. and made the wheel unbalanced. The wheel has an eccentric appearance to the eye and in reality behaves as an eccentric.
The present invention makes it possible to bring to cer rims - partial barge a significant improvement obtained thanks to the fact that the bottom of the rim is provided with two deep parts located at two diametrically opposed points of the periphery, the parts of the bottom of the rim which connect these points being left flat; these flat parts are connected to the deep parts by progressive slopes.
A rim formed in this way first of all has the advantage of making it possible to give the deepest parts a significantly less depth. In fact, half of the depth necessary so far will suffice as will be understood by the following.
A shallower depth of the groove in itself already presents an important advantage from all points of view and in particular from the point of view of the appearance of the rim. Likewise, the fact that the bottom of the rim remains flat at two diametrically opposed points also constitutes an important improvement.
A particularly important advantage of the diaprés rim of the invention is constituted by the fact that it is absolutely balanced because all the masses are balanced due to the symmetry *
The same consideration also applies to the wheel on which such a rim is mounted. An imbalance in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the wheel is round absolutely impossible thanks to the shape improved according to 1.0, invention. The tensile work of the rim is appreciably less than that of a rim with a single eccentricity and therefore with a deeper groove.
In the accompanying drawings there is shown by way of example an embodiment according to the present invention.
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the rim.
Fig. 2 is a cut made at one of the two places where the throat has its greatest depth.
Figure 3 is a section made on the contrary at 1! one of the two places where the bottom of the rim remains flat.
The bottom of the rim is absolutely flat in two diametrically opposed places a. the back, it has its greatest depth at two diametrically opposed places b. The groove extends along an arc of circumference eccentric with respect to the center of the rim, its depth decreasing little by little to cancel out at points a.
Figures 4 to 9 show the manner of mounting a tire on the rim according to the invention.
It will be noted first of all that, contrary to what occurs with current partial grooved rims, the assembly is started not at the place where the groove has its greatest depth, but. one of the places where the bottom of the rim is flat.
In the description which follows, we will not first of all concern ourselves with the installation of the valve.
Figures 4 to 9 show the different mounting stages. These figures show each a side elevational view in section, this section being made by the two points a a of the rim where its bottom is flat.
These cutaway are turned relative to 1 figure 1 of 90.
For more clarity we will speak in the description
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
which follows from the "top" and "bottom" of the rim as well as the right or left part thereof.
It is obvious that in reality it is absolutely irrelevant which anomalous position the rim occupies when the tire is fitted.
We start (see figure 4) by passing the lower part of the left bead of the tire d over the upper part of the right rim of the rim a and push it until it reaches the middle of the rim. rim section. In this position it is possible (see figure 5) to place the two lateral parts of the left bead in the two lateral grooves of the rim in such a way that the circumference formed by the left bead has taken the form of an ellipse whose the longest axis is arranged vertically * Then, we can pass the lower part of the left bead over the right edge of the rim and push all the tire, so that the left bead comes to rest on the inside on the left edge of the rim,
the right wadding still being at this time outside the rim (see figure 6) *
In this position, the air chamber can be fitted by lifting the right bead and inserting the chamber inside the casing. In FIG. 7 we see the air chamber introduced into the envelope. The procedure is then carried out with the right bead of the envelope in the same way as was done earlier with the left bead.
We start by passing the upper part of the right bead over the right edge of the rim, we push the right bead into the two deep parts (see figure 8) of the jane and then pass the lower part of the bead through above the right edge of the rim (see figure 9).
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
The hole 11 for the valve is preferably placed at one of the deepest places of the rim * The valve will be inserted in the hole 11 when the inner tube is put in place (position of the figure 7). Obviously, care must be taken at this time so that the valve body does not lie flat in the groove. At the diametrically opposite point of the rim, a plate is placed which has been represented in FIG. 1 by two cuts made at right angles to each other, this plate playing the role of counterweight with respect to the valve. The plate will be put in place at the same time as the valve.
However, care must be taken at this time that this plate does not temporarily lock the groove. A. once the tire is fully assembled, pull radially on part x of the valve passing through hole h and on part y of the plate passing through hole! to put these soft oren @ es in place in the two deepest parts of the throat. This operation is facilitated at this time by the fact that the tire, which is not subjected to any force, does not tend to penetrate into these deep parts of the throat.
In general, it will be understood from the mounting of the tire which has just been described, that it will be sufficient, to allow mounting, to have an equal depth of the groove, on each side of the rim, to only half the depth of the grooves required with the types of rims known until now, given that the two grooves placed in diametral opposition act in combination to make it possible to reduce the diameter of the tire that is being fitted at this point on the rim.
An accidental penetration of the bead into the depressions in the bottom of the rim, when the tire is deflated, will be effectively prevented by the two flat parts placed opposite each other on the periphery of the tire. rim.
