<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
Comme il va de soi, et coalise il ressort d'ail- leurs déjà de ce qui précède, l'invention ne se limite au- cunement à ceux de ses modes d'application, non plus qu'à ceux des modes de réalisation de ses diverses parties, ayant plus spécialement été indiqués; elle en embrasse, au contraire, toutes les variantes: celle ou la forme préparatoire de chaque pli, ainsi que celles de la tringle correspondante b. et des molettes c et doseraient telles qu'on puisse obtenir, pour la partie dudit pli appliquée sur ladite tringle, une forme, en sec- tion, autre que circulaire ;
celle où, dans le cas où on utiliserait le machine ci-dessus donnée comme exemple,.ou une machine analogue, la Molette déplaçable c serait montée folle et serait dès lors entraînée en rotation par le pli en travail, cette disposi- tion, qui simplifierait le mécanisme, n'étant pas recomman- dable à cause de la pression à laquelle ladite molette est soumise par le cylindre rotatif h et qui nuirait à son entraînement ;

"Improvements made to ribbed sheets called" to ': sausage "Company: SUPPLY COMPANY for INDUSTRY
67, rue de la Convention, in LA COURNEUVE (Seine) France.
The invention relates to so-called "stranded" ribbed sheets.
Its main goal is to make these sheets such that, with equal dimensions, while being at least as strong as ordinary sheets with flanges, they are lighter.
It consists, mainly, in constituting each of the ribs, in making the sheets of the type in question understand by a fold in the form of a sort of hollow coil rail whose flat sides corresponding to the core are juxtaposed and made interdependent with each other, and to have recourse to means (for example to molting operations) suitable to ensure this result.
It consists, apart from this main provision
EMI1.1
5/7/11927 above in certain other provisions, which are preferably used at the same time and of which it will be. more explicit-
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
one hundred discussed below.
It relates more particularly to certain modes of application, as well as certain embodiments, of said provisions; and it is aimed more particularly still, and this as new industrial products :, sheets of the type in question comprising the application of these provisions, elements, machines and special tools suitable for their production, as well as installations, fixed or movable, comprising similar sheets.
And it can, in any event, be well understood with the aid of the additional description which follows, as well as the appended drawing, which supplement and drawing are, of course, given above all by way of indication.
Figs. 1 to 4 included in this drawing show, all at the same qoupe along a plane perpendicular to its folds, and in four successive phases of its machining, a coil sheet produced in accordance with the invention, FIG.
3 showing this sheet being machined using a machine also established in accordance with the invention.
According to the invention, and more especially according to those of its modes of application, as well as those of the embodiments of its various parts, to which preference should be given, proposing to establish a flanged sheet, the procedure is as follows, or analogously.
We begin by making in said sheet, supposedly flat, by any suitable means, at the places where the ribs are to be found, folds such as those shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, that is to say whose wall comprises two parts a1 perpendicular to the
2 plane of the sheet and parallel to each other and a part a to constitute the bottom, connected with the previous a1 cylindrically, taking care that the development of each fold shown in fig. 1 or 2 either in length
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
equal to the development of each fold shown in fig. 4, in which the first ply will be transformed, as will be seen in what follows, to obtain the final shape of said ply.
Then we introduce, as shown in fig. 2 and 3, in each fold obtained in FIG. 1, a cylindrical rod b, for example made of steel, solid or hollow, well calibrated and suitable for applying over the entire surface of the bottom of said ply.
Then recourse is had to means such as to make it possible to give to each ply, once furnished with a trin- gle b (as in fig. 2), the profile shown in fig.
4 - the rivets drawn there being supposed first of all non-existent -, which means can be constituted in different ways, for example by using knurling, which knurling can, for example, also be obtained using the machine shown in fig. 3, or a similar machine, and consisting of: two knurling wheels c and d, of the same dimensions, having their axes parallel to each other and preferably vertical, established in the same plane and of radial section such, at their periphery, that , applied tangentially against each other, they can, when rotated, by any suitable means, at the same speed and in the opposite direction to each other, give, to each fold shown in fig. 2, the form shown in FIG.
4, one of the knobs, ± for example, being capable of being moved so as to be able to be brought closer to or away from the first in their common plane, this displacement being obtainable for example by doing such, the bti e . supporting the axes of said wheels, which it carries

e of the Violet d, this by acting on the screw, for example by means of a flywheel (not shown), and, on the other hand, the cylinder h of said knobs, this by a- on the flywheel 1, so that we can engage, between the cylinder h and the rollers, the sheet so the folds are fitted with rods b and apply this sheet to the rolls by engaging between them only one of these folds, the distance between these knurls,. when the above desired distance of the knurl ± is made, must be less than the distance between two consecutive folds;
move the dial closer. ±. of the other wheel until they come into contact with said fold by exerting
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
on him some appropriate pressure; and the cylinder h is applied with an equally appropriate force on the sheet, by acting on the flywheel 11
The pressure exerted by the knurls on the fold brings the wall parts a1 closer together, the lower ends of which curve, on the side of the rod b, by a certain amount, and the upper ends of which remain perpendicular to the plane of the sheet.
The rollers by turning drive the sheet in translation, this drive being assisted if necessary by pulling it. by hand, and the cylinder h is itself driven in rotation by playing the role of pressure assigned to it.
Once, with the same pressure as above, the knobs have acted over the entire length of the fold, the operation is started again in the opposite direction, that is to say by turning the knobs in the other direction, with a little stronger pressure, and so on with as many successive pressures of increasing strength as is necessary - this in the event that the nature of the sheet does not would not make it possible to obtain in a single pass the final shape of the folds, without deterioration or tearing of the material, until a fold having the profile of those shown in reality in FIG. 3, i.e. the lower ends of the wall parts a1 are almost completely applied to the rod b and 'whose upper ends face each other at a very short distance from one of the other.
We proceed in the same way successively for the other folds to be finished, the rods by contained then being removed, an operation facilitated by the possibility of separating the two sides of each fold more or less from one another, thanks to the relative elasticity of said ply.
Finally, we apply the
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
rectilinear parts facing the wall of each ply, which part is made integral with each other, over their entire length, by any suitable means, for example, or by welding them, or by sewing them together. another using an automatic machine, or else, as actually shown in FIG. 4, which represents the sheet once finished manufacturing, connecting them with rivets m.
As a result of which, one obtains flanged sheets which fully meet the aforementioned purpose, which sheets can, once finished machining, be curved in any shape, in all directions.
As goes without saying, and combines it moreover already from what precedes, the invention is in no way limited to those of its modes of application, nor to those of the embodiments of its various parts, having been more especially indicated; it embraces, on the contrary, all the variants: that or the preparatory form of each ply, as well as those of the corresponding rod b. and c and metering wheels such that one can obtain, for the part of said ply applied to said bead wire, a shape, in section, other than circular;
that in which, in the case where the above machine given as an example, or a similar machine, the movable wheel c would be mounted loose and would be driven in rotation by the working fold, this arrangement, which would simplify the mechanism, not being recommendable because of the pressure to which said wheel is subjected by the rotating cylinder h and which would interfere with its drive;
and that where, in the same case of machine use, it would be arranged in such a way that each reversal of the direction of the movement of the sheet is ob-
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
held automatically, as well as the degree of pressure that the knurls must exert on the bend to be worked, at each of the passes of said sheet.
