<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
afdekplaat.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>

"Diesel engine exhaust filter"
This invention relates to a filter for the exhaust gases of a diesel engine.
As is well known, exhaust gases from diesel engines are very polluting. However, a significant part of the pollutants could be collected by filters. In order to generalize the use of filters and to impose them if necessary, one of the many requirements is that the filtering material can be replaced regularly and without too much hindrance by the user.
However, no solution has yet been found to meet this requirement, since the structure of a filter of the type referred to must additionally exhibit technically reliable means to react, on the one hand, to the filter's contamination and, on the other hand, to a rapid replacement. , at least of the filtering part, in a simple manner.
In order to achieve this in accordance with the invention, the exhaust gas filter according to the invention is designed in combination with a muffler, which itself consists of a canister with an inlet at the front and an outlet at the rear, which sleeve is longitudinally divided into three rooms is divided, t.
w. a front chamber to which the inlet connects and a rear chamber that connects to the outlet, and an elongated center chamber located between two bulkheads defining this center chamber of
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
the above-mentioned front and rear chambers separates and consists of an upper part and a lower part, in which elongated central chamber a plate-shaped filter is detachably mounted, and in each of the above-mentioned partitions openings are provided for the passage of the circulating exhaust gases, such that these gases enter the elongated chamber along one side of the plate-shaped filter and exit this chamber along the other side of this filter.
According to the invention, the above-mentioned sleeve is provided laterally with an elongated detachable cover plate with dimensions which allow passage of the above-mentioned plate-shaped filter.
In a preferred embodiment, the above-mentioned plate-shaped filter relative to the above-mentioned canister is received in a frame formed by three U-shaped profiles and the above-mentioned plate-shaped filter is formed by an internal filter material filled with perforated plate housing.
Other details and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description of a diesel engine exhaust filter according to the invention. This description is given by way of example only and does not limit the invention. The reference numbers refer to the attached figures.
Figure 1 is a side view, partly in longitudinal section and with omissions, of the filter according to the invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view with partial omissions of the filter of Figure 1 with partially extended filter and removed
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
cover plate.
The filter represented by these figures consists of a bush 1, which is designed as a muffler, consisting in the sense in which the exhaust gases move, from the sequence of a front chamber 2, a middle chamber 3 and a rear chamber 4.
The inlet 5 connects to the front chamber 2, while the outlet 6 connects to the rear chamber 4.
The front chamber is closed, along the side of the middle chamber 3, by a partition 7, while the rear chamber 4 is also closed, along the side of the middle chamber 3, by a partition 8. In the partition 7, several passages 9 are provided at the top, while several openings 10 are arranged in the bottom of the partition 8.
The polluted exhaust gases thus reach the upper part 3a of the middle chamber 3 via the passages 9 and leave the lower part 3b of the middle chamber 3 through the openings 10.
Since the sleeve 1, according to a cross-section, has an almost oval shape with its major axis in the longitudinal symmetry plane of the filter 11, a space is created above this filter equal to the space present under this filter. The filter used here is a plate-shaped filter 11 filled with rock wool 12 or a technically equivalent product capable of collecting the pollutant particles. The plate-shaped filter 11 is formed by a metal housing in which a large number of holes 13 are provided. Thanks to the plate-like structure of the filter 11, a very large filtering surface is created. The filter 11 is indeed almost in the longitudinal symmetry plane of the sleeve 1, which also includes the major axis of the oval which
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
cross section of sleeve 1 corresponds.
The filter 11 easily slides in and out of a window formed by three U-shaped profiles 14.
The sleeve 1, which for this purpose has a suitable elongated opening for the passage of the filter 11, is closed on the side with a cover plate 15 with handle 16.
Because plate-shaped filter 11 fits nicely into the three U-shaped profiles 14, the two chambers above and below the filter 11 are well separated from each other. On the side of the cover plate 15 which closes the sleeve 1 in the longitudinal direction along one side, the plate-shaped filter 11 is also kept pressed strongly against the cover plate 15 laterally, so that a good or at least sufficiently airtight seal is also ensured here.
The exhaust gases must therefore circulate over the entire surface of the plate-shaped filter 11 and through the filter material present.
Due to the very simple and yet technically very reliable structure of the filter according to the invention, it is easy for the user of a car to replace a dirty filter with another one in time.
When as a result of the pollution of the filter 11 the pressure in the front chamber 2 increases, the automatic valve 17, mounted at the bottom of the partition 7, opens and the polluted gases will be led to the lower part 3b of the middle chamber 3. These gases then circulate in the unfiltered state through the lower part 3b of the middle chamber 3 and leave the can 1 through the rear chamber 4 and the outlet 6.
Also the fact that the in a muffler
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
mounted filter has a sound-damping effect, must be underlined.
The invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and many modifications could be made thereto insofar as they fall within the scope of the appended claims.
