<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
<Desc/Clms Page number 9>
<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

METHOD AND MACHINE FOR CALIBRATING A STONE PLATE OR BLOCK
The present invention relates to a method and a machine for calibrating a plate or block of stony material, by scanning a face of the plate or block, by means of a set of segments. diamonds fixed along a belt stretched between a drive wheel and a deflection wheel. In this machine, the diamond segments are set in motion relative to the plate or block to be calibrated.
Calibration or roughing is a surfacing operation which consists in rudimentary elimination of sawing defects such as blade cuts, deviations, rust, excessive roughness of a stony plate or block. This is an important and expensive step in the work of stone.
Recently, many machines equipped with diamond tools have been developed for roughing out stony material. It is at the roughing stage that the diamond's superiority over conventional abrasives is most marked. The diamond indeed makes it possible to reduce the duration and the number of steps necessary to obtain the desired surface finish, and to reduce the frequency of replacement of the tools in particular thanks to their longevity.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
To rough and calibrate a plate or block of stony material obtained by sawing, a milling machine is generally used comprising at least one milling roller made up of a cylindrical body. The roller rotates at a peripheral speed of 30 to 40 m / s ensuring a pass speed of 0.3-0.5 mm for a speed of advance of the stony material of 1-2 m / min.
For calibrating the granite, heads with diamond-plated satellite plates are also used. Each head consists of a spindle driven in rotation about a vertical axis. On each spindle are mounted several horizontal circular satellite plates, generally four or five, distributed symmetrically around the axis of rotation of the spindle. The plates are each lined with a peripheral ring carrying a series of diamond segments distributed regularly along it. The trays generally have a diameter of about 150 mm. Fifteen diamond segments are brazed on each of them. Each spindle is rotated at a speed between 300 and 600 rpm. In addition, on said rotary spindles, the satellite plates rotate at a speed of 1000 to 1980 rpm.
The simultaneous rotation of each head and of the segments makes it possible to obtain a very high working speed.
A disadvantage of roller systems lies in their different and variable wear from the edge to the center, regularly requiring a reversal of the segments.
The present invention aims to remedy the above-mentioned drawback. Its subject is a process as described in the first paragraph of this memo.
This process is characterized in that the plate is submitted
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
or the block and the substantially vertical plane comprising the belt or chain driven endlessly, to a relative displacement relative to each other in an oblique horizontal direction relative to said substantially vertical plane of the belt or chain.
Among other things, the method according to the present invention makes it possible to calibrate very wide plates.
According to a feature of the method according to the invention, the angle of inclination of the direction of relative movement of the plate or block with respect to the substantially vertical plane in which the belt is stretched is between 30 and 70.
According to another particular feature of the method according to the invention, the plate or the block is moved relative to the belt fixedly mounted on a frame using a sliding table.
According to another development of the process according to the invention, the endless belt is driven at a speed of rotation of approximately 5 to 20 m / s, preferably of approximately 10 m / s.
In one embodiment of the method according to the invention, the plate or the belt is provided with a forward speed of between 0.2 to 1.50 m / min, in particular 0.75 m / min for a depth between 0.2 and 2 mm, preferably 0.7 mm.
In another embodiment of the method according to the invention, the plane containing the drive wheel and the return wheel is inclined by an angle of
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
2 to 50 relative to a plane perpendicular to the face of the plate or block to be calibrated. This makes it possible to reduce all the cutting force on the bottom of the slide and to avoid rapid wear of the lateral faces of the pads.
The invention also relates to a machine for calibrating a plate or block of stony material, this machine comprising a set of diamond segments mounted on a tensioned chain or belt and driven endlessly in a substantially vertical plane between a wheel. drive and a deflection wheel, characterized in that a lower end of the endlessly driven belt is supported on one face of the plate or block and / or that displacement means ensure relative movement between said plate or said block and the substantially vertical plane containing the chain or belt in an oblique direction of advance relative to the above vertical plane.
In a first embodiment of the machine, the displacement means is a movable table on which the plate or the block is fixed and which moves in a horizontal advancement direction, oblique to the substantially vertical plane of the chain or belt.
In a second embodiment of the machine, the displacement means is a movable frame on which are mounted the drive wheel and the return wheel of the chain or belt and which moves in a horizontal, oblique direction of advance with respect to the above vertical plane.
In one embodiment of the machine according to the invention, at least one series of segments
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
has an abrasive surface inclined to the face of the plate or block to be calibrated.
According to a first detail of the machine according to the invention, the belt is provided in the vicinity of each of its edges with a series of segments, the width of which is only a fraction of that of the belt, between one tenth and half of it, the segments of said series having an abrasive surface distant from the same distance from the belt. The belt is driven in a preferably substantially vertical plane forming an angle of 2 to 50 with a plane perpendicular to the face of the block or plate.
According to another detail of the machine according to the invention, the belt is provided with pads while the wheel driven by the motor is provided with a tire so that the friction of the shoes on the tire allows the segments to move. It makes it possible to use a toothed belt.
This machine is provided with slides, a first slide extending from the wheel driven by the motor to another idler wheel while a second slide extends from a wheel towards the wheel driven by the motor, these slides being intended to guide and / or support the cleats. Advantageously, the belt is subjected to a tension before setting it in motion, this tension preferably being around 2 tonnes.
The machine according to the invention requires a lower investment than known calibration systems.
The present invention also relates to a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
plate or block of stony material having at least one face whose flatness is less than or equal to 0.1 millimeter.
Other particularities and details of the machine according to the invention will appear during the following detailed description in which reference is made to the accompanying drawings:
In these drawings: FIG. 1 is a plan view of a machine according to the invention; - Figure 2 is an elevational view of the machine shown in Figure 1; - Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line

In these figures, the same reference signs designate identical or analogous elements.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Figure 1 shows a machine for calibrating a face 1 of a plate or block of stony material. This machine comprises several diamond segments 2 which are set in motion (arrow X) relative to said face 1. The segments 2 are mounted on a smooth belt 3 stretched between a drive wheel 4 and a deflection wheel 5.
Instead of being mounted on a smooth belt 3, said segments could have been mounted on a toothed belt or on a chain stretched between two toothed wheels, one of drive 4 and the other of return 5.
The wheel 4 is driven by a motor 6. This motor 6 rotates a shaft 7 on which a pulley 8 is mounted.
The wheel 4 is mounted on a shaft 9 which also carries a pulley 10, this pulley 10 and therefore the wheel 4 being driven by the motor 6 by means of a transmission belt 11 extending between the pulleys 8 and 10.
The shaft 9 of the drive wheel 4 is mounted in a system 12 provided with ball bearings, this system being secured to a chassis 13 of the machine by means of a support 14.
The return wheel 5 can, for its part, be mounted on a shaft 15 secured to an arm 16 which can be moved (arrow Y) relative to the chassis 13. This arm 16 has, in the vicinity of an end 17, two grooves 19 in which rollers 20 are engaged, mounted on shafts 21 integral with the chassis 13.
When moved in the direction of arrow Y, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
arm 16 makes it possible to tension the calibration belt 3.
The machine is also provided with means intended to move the calibration belt 3 with respect to the plate 1, in a direction Z. These means are, for example, a conveyor belt or a movable table 23 carrying the plate 1.
The motor 6 is mounted on a support 24 movable relative to the chassis 13 (arrow W). Thus, by means of a threaded rod 25, it is possible to tension the transmission belt 11 extending between the wheels 10,8.
The segments 2 of the belt 3 which are adjacent to the face 1 to be calibrated are set in motion in a direction X forming an angle a with the direction of movement Z of the plate 1 relative to the belt 3. This angle is advantageously understood between 30 and 700 and, preferably, it is around 45.
In the machine according to the invention shown in Figures 1 and 2, the belt 3 is provided in the vicinity of its edges 26,27 (see Figure 4) with two series of segments 2, each segment 2 of said series having an abrasive surface 30 located at the same distance d from the belt 3.
The belt 3 is driven endlessly in a plane AA extending between the pulleys 4 and 5, this plane AA forming an angle ss with a plane B-B perpendicular to the face 1 of the plate (see FIG. 3). This angle is
EMI8.1
advantageously less than 10 and preferably about 2 to 3, depending on the conditions of use of the machine.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The belt 3 is provided with pads 31 and the pulley 4 driven by the motor 6 is provided with a tire 32 so that the friction of said shoes 31 on the tire allows the segments 2 to move.
The machine is provided with slides 33. These slides extend between the pulleys 4,5 and are intended to guide and / or support the pads 31. The slides 33 are provided with feeds 35 of a fluid such as l 'water, so as to limit or avoid friction of the pads 31 on the slides 33 (see Figure 7).
The abrasive segments 2 are mounted on a support plate 34 fixed to the belt 3 by means of bolts 36 (see FIG. 6). The bolts 36 also make it possible to secure the pads 31 of the belt
3, these pads 31 being fixed on the face of the belt opposite to that carrying the segments.
It is possible, thanks to a calibration process using such a machine, to obtain a plate or block of stony material having one or more faces 1 whose flatness is less than or equal to 0.1 millimeter.
In one embodiment of a method according to the invention, a belt 3 carrying a series of diamond segments 2 is set in motion (arrow X) relative to a plate or block 1 and the plate 1 is moved relative to belt 3.
Advantageously, the belt is subjected to a tension of approximately 2 tonnes before setting it in motion. This significant energization of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
belt 3 keeps it taut and sets it in motion by friction.
The speed of movement (arrow X) of the belt is advantageously less than 15 m / s. Thus, a flow of 0.7 mm of pass can be obtained for a forward speed (arrow Y) of 0.75 m / minute.
The pads or stops 31 sliding in the slides 33 are made of plastic.
A machine such as that shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 also makes it possible to form ridges on one face of a plate or of a block. Such streaks can improve the bonding of the cement.
Small segments are preferably used, the width of which is only a fraction between one tenth and half the width of the belt and / or the tool holder, rather than a larger segment fixed in the middle of the holder. -tool.
The invention allows the development of new cutting tools having a shape and dimensions different from those of the calibration tools. It increases the efficiency of these tools by accelerating their speed and their throughput.
The inclination of the chassis carrying the drive wheel and the deflection wheel with respect to the vertical is compulsory in order to avoid premature wear on the sides of the pads. This inclination is a function of the machine usage parameters.
