<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
anneau 12.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

Method of making support posts and posts made thereby
The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing support posts and the posts thus produced, which are intended for the positioning of electric cables, telephone and telegraph lines, street lighting, traffic lights and indicator panels or any other element or device which must be supported at a specific height and at a fixed position.
The posts in question are made from a paste of an artificial material with a reinforcing framework, according to an ordered sequence of operations.
The posts thus produced by said process can have high resistance to bending, traction and compression, giving both a remarkably simple and light structure.
It is known according to the prior art to manufacture posts of concrete or other material with internal reinforcement, with or without prestressing, which are different by the need to use a large amount of base material, as well as reinforcing steel , for a given bearing capacity, and which, in addition to being expensive because of the quantity of raw material used, are ugly because of their

-4on they physical dimensions compared to the use they offer.
A preferred method of manufacturing a support post according to the method according to the invention makes it possible to obtain a light and thin post compared to its characteristics of resistance to bending, compression and traction. The advantages provided by the invention are therefore functional, aesthetic and

economic. Such posts are also weather resistant, so that they can have a long service life without changing their own characteristics.
The method which will be described consists in manufacturing a reinforcing framework for the support post, in creating a space around this framework delimited by an envelope of tubular configuration, and in pouring an artificial connection material in the pasty state in this space thus defined, so as to form with the inside of the framework, the body of the post.
The invention provides a method of manufacturing a support post in the form of a cylinder or elongated truncated cone, the method comprising the steps consisting in: - assembling a reinforcing framework comprising a plurality of rods extending longitudinally and distributed around a central axis, the ends of the rods engaging in respective rings at the two ends of the frame, each end of each rod being provided with a reduced cross-sectional area which engages in a notch formed at the periphery of the associated ring, - placing a thin-walled envelope on the reinforcement framework thus formed, - and filling the envelope, substantially over its entire length,
with an artificial bonding material thus flowing the material around the reinforcing framework.
According to a preferred method of manufacture, groups of rods are arranged on substantially horizontal longitudinal supports, acting as elements for positioning the rods, so that the latter can be sized and shaped.
The longitudinal supports are preferably inclined, relative to a structure which supports them for

facilitate the injection of artificial matter in the liquid state. Preferably, the reinforcing rods are prestressed before casting, and the ends of the posts can be covered by sheet steel caps.
Other advantages, characteristics and details of the process according to the invention will be highlighted by the explanatory description which will follow made with reference to the appended drawings given solely by way of example and in which: - Figure 1 is a external view of a post obtained by the method according to the invention, - Figures 2 and 3 show the metal rings to be mounted respectively at the ends of large and small diameter of the reinforcement cage during the construction of a post, - FIGS. 4 and 5 show the flats formed at the ends of the reinforcing rods, FIGS. 6 and 7 show the positioning of the ends of the rods in the rings provided with notches at their periphery,

<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
- Figure 18 shows the metal rings mounted at both ends of a pole, and - Figure 19 shows the structure of a pole at the end of its construction.
The support post shown in FIG. 19 comprises a casing 1 with a thin wall of cylindrical shape or shaped according to an elongated truncated cone, an inner body 2 comprising a concrete base or body, a reinforcing frame 3 made of metal rods with the ends of these arranged in a ring, and an internal space 4 initially defined by a core 19 which is removed once the manufacturing process has ended.
The rods 3 ,. made of quality steel, cut to an appropriate length, are modified at their ends where they are machined to present respective pairs of flat and symmetrical flat surfaces 5 and 6, as shown in Figures 4 and 5. These surfaces 5 and 6 allow the rods to be assembled together to form a semi-rigid framework 3 into which concrete can be injected in the liquid state. These surfaces 5 and 6 are obtained by pressing operations carried out automatically.
A ring 7 is mounted at the small diameter end of the post. The ring 7 is provided with peripheral notches 9 shaped or configured so as to receive the ends 8 of the rods 3.
The ring 7, as shown in Figures 6 and 7, receives and retains the ends 8 of the rods. The flat surfaces 5 and 6 at the ends of the rods engage in the rectangular notches 9 which are spaced at equal intervals around the periphery of the ring 7.
Similarly, the other ends 10 of the rods 3 are retained at the larger diameter end of the frame 3 in notches 11 of a
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
ring 12. Each notch is rectangular or trapezoidal, advantageously with a circular hole in the center.
De'cette manner the reinforcing frame, defined by the rods and the two end rings, has the shape of an elongated cage. This assembly serves as a reinforcement and lifting core in which concrete is injected in the liquid state. The casing 1, which is made independently from a PVC tube or the like, retains the concrete during setting. This envelope or tube, because of its thermoplastic properties, can be deformed under the effect of heat and pressure, is mounted in a device (not described in detail) which comprises an injection of hot air under pressure. This hot air softens the material of the tube and allows it to widen more at one end than at another, so that the tube as a whole takes the form of a truncated cone or an elongated shape, if it is the shape chosen for the post.
Once the elongated framework is in place inside the thin-walled envelope, and once the separators and the core are in place, the concrete is injected.
For this purpose, the device shown in Figures 10 and 11 is used. This device essentially comprises a longitudinal support platform which makes it possible to support the aforementioned constituent elements which are duly attached by their ends and possibly by their intermediate part. The aforementioned device comprises longitudinal beams 13 and crosspieces 14 and 15, defining a rigid structure which guarantees at the same time the rigidity and the immobility of the parts of the post under construction.
These supports loaded with a variable number of posts during the manufacturing process, are placed
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
in a structure 16 associated with a device for forcing the mass of concrete inside the envelope 1.
Figure 12 schematically shows the above structure 16 which is in the form of a main frame, and in which we can see a support 17 of the type shown in Figures 10 and 11. in a horizontal position, and another device 18 of the same type in inclined position.
The injection of the concrete mass is carried out through the base part of the post, which corresponds to the end of the largest diameter, that is to say the end having the widest width. The reason for injecting the mass of concrete in an upward direction and not in another direction is due to the need to ensure uniformity in the advance of casting within the narrow space defined between the envelope laminar 1, the set of rods 3 forming the reinforcement and the core 19, thus avoiding the formation of air pockets which could make advance of the casting difficult.
. Figures 13 to 16 show different steps in the operation of assembling the frame of rods to

ends of supports or longitudinal tables ends of supports used for lifting during concrete injection.
The sizing press 30 shown in Figure 13 is used to cut the ends of the rods 3 so that they have the same length. This improves the uniformity of assembly and finishing of the rods at the end rings 7 and 12.
In Figure 18, we can see the positioning of the caps or covers 21 and 22 at the ends of large and small diameter, respectively, of the formed post, which correspond to the operation of finishing the ends 23 and 24 of the post to allow its connection, at one end, to its base support and, at its other end, to the lighting device or any other
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
device that he must support. The aforementioned rings are only used temporarily, and once the post is finished, these are removed.
The prestressing of the rods after the injection of the concrete is carried out so as to obtain maximum resistance in tension and compression, as shown in Figure 17. Around the larger diameter end of the reinforcement cage, is placed a ring 25 which retains the frame and fixes it relative to the support, so that it is centered relative to the casing 1, while inside there is provided an element 26 in disc shape adjacent and parallel to the rod retaining ring 17.
A movable element is inserted into the smaller diameter end of the reinforcement cage. This mobile element comprises an axial body 27 with a head 28 in the form of a truncated cone at its end of larger diameter, this mobile element being mounted at one end of a control device 29 and fixed relative to the reinforcement rods 3 The control device 29 is actuated by a hydraulic device (not shown), which

Figure 19 gives an idea of the structure of a post at the end of construction, which requires, after the injection of concrete, to vibrate it by means applied to the structure of the post during the setting of the concrete.

The outer ring 25 and the disc-shaped element 26 applied respectively to the outer and inner parts of the end of the post are positioned before

concrete injection, so as to obtain a correct shaping of the post in this region.
The slow hardening of the concrete takes place according to its properties, the first stage of hardening being reached approximately eight hours after the injection of the concrete. The slow hardening of the concrete is continued for the necessary time, until it has solidified completely and maximum resistance is obtained, the concrete adhering to the casing 1.
During this operation, the posts are stored in a warehouse.
