Abstract
A refractory article for a device for controlling or interrupting a jet of steel, characterised in that it is made up of a refractory material consisting essentially of a) 61 to 77 % by weight of particles which have an alumina content greater than 50 % by weight and a melting point higher than 1800 DEG C, and b) 39 to 23 % by weight of a binding phase exhibiting an X-ray pattern in which the most intense lines are the lines characteristic of a sialon of the formula Si6-zAlzOzN8-z where z has the value of 2.5 to 4. Application especially as a plate of a slide shutter.
