Description
2/6 The steel dowel would have to be manufactured in various diameters say from 5mm to 40 mm with various lengths from 25 mm to 250mm Or made to suit special requirerments for useage in, the trade section that its useage is required in..
A tubular steel dowel ,of a similar type in which only one screw is located at its inner end The opposeite end the outer (0 end has four lock up pins punch inwards.
OFthe steel tube located at a distance Sfrom this end so as not to weaken its ltube section that continues past this press in pin end section.
g°e I~ A tubular steel dowel of two types two methods of jointing timbers That dont require tool clamps The dowel with screws at both ends and a tubular aperture section for entry of a special tool for rotating of screw splines clockwise Which in turn r has a clamping effect. By pulling together both timber members Thus doing away with the need of tool clamps.
The self clamping steel dowel The clamping action with the single screw dowel is acheived in a slightly <f different way .After the single screw is lock up into one timber member .The screw head is acting as a nut Internally of its hexagonal nut head shape It is internally threaded ,allowing the fully threaded steel rod .To be lock up in the screw head threads .The length of the steel rod is adjusted to suit the length of the timber member being clamped .Its cut of end then has a steel Washer and nut tightened clockwise .Untill it is fully clamp against its opposeite timber member Thenut head and steel washer are counter sunk be low the surface 33 of this timber member..
Referring to figure 1 It can be seen with all its components tube section 1 housing with in its internal walls Two splined screws 2 centering washers 3 steel stop end 4 slots for rotating splined ends of screws 2 After drillings of holes to suit the diameter of the tube And its length with drilled holes to suit the threads of s crews 2 and its depth or length to the half way measure of the tube length 1 In two timber members the cutting out of matching slots in the surface of both timber members 0 being joined together ,the dowel FIG. 1 is inserted into both of the drilled core holes The splined ends of the screws 2 are then rotated clockwise by a rachet type hand tool .Untill they are fully extended against the stop ends of dowel 3 FIG, 2 Shows alternate dowel for insertion into a single d rilled core hole .It shows one internal screw 2 lock up pins 5 centering washer 3 steel stop end 4 welded to tube 1. steel tube le has no slots for rotating of Sscrews 2 Drawings 1 /1 Details 6 A fully threaded steel conecting rod ,which is threaded into screw 2 at its Ttrning end .then locked up against timber member being join to member .That has previously received fully threaded screw 2 S. that is now lock up against end of steel dowel stop end 4 SThe oposite end with threaded rod 6 has lock nut and washer •r otated clockwise to bring clamping pressure to both timber members being join together the penitration of lock up pins into previously drilled core holes that steel dowel has been inserted into along with clamping pressure of tightnist So f washer and steel nut of 6 hold this joint of the two 30 timber membersWUle the friction glue between the outer tube o f the steel dowel 1 and the drilled core are adhereing to each timber member being join...

CC C To with understanding the invention reference will now be m m ade to the accompaning drawing which show one example of t he invention In the drawings FIG 1 shows one example of the invention the tublar steel d owel with its two screw sections F IG 2 shows the second type of steel dowel with its single s crew and lock up pins SCorrpor.^nt f0y F IG. 3 shows)Ljointing of timber members with steel dowels.
10 FIG. 4 shows timbers members jointed together by fig 1 dowels..
FIG. 5 shows fig 2 dowel insertion through two timber members.
FIG 6 shows rachet type hand tool cogs meshed with screw 15 splines rotating integral screw into compressed fibre sheeting FIG. 7 special hand tool with a double function its slotted e nd rotates integral screw it has a steel cap fitted to allow hammer blows after insertion into the dowel end to spread lock up pins into the timber member.

FIG 8 Drawing 1 1 Allows a fully threaded steelCeOecting rod to be locked in o the end thread of screw head to continue in length through dowel tube and timber member Where a washer and nut are then rotated clock wise to clamp together both timber members.
Claim I- Tubular steel dowels with double and single integral screws for joining together timber members comprising a tubular section an internal screw integral with a spline section inserted in the tubular section having the tubular aperture at its side 6 to provide acces to rotating the splined drive section movable space washers place on the internal screw acting as spline holders for correct spacing of the internal screw and a space washer acting as and end stop inserted and welded in position at the end of the tubular section where by in use the screw is adapted to be driven to extend beyound the end of the tubular section..
Claim :2 A dowel as defined in claim 1 Integral with a single screw at and end of tublar section end. Having lock up pins embedded into the jointing timbers from the interior side of the tubular section.
By the special tool punch Set in integral screw being fully threaded The said end of the tubular section being threaded the screw and the tubular section are lock up and held By movable space washers Its other washers end stop washers clamp timber members together permantly..
Claim 3 A dowel as defined in claim 1 where in the splined drive section is at one end of the integral screws The exposed splines at the screw ends are rotated by a special hand held tool That engages its revolving cog wheel with these screw end splines Ihreading the screws into the timber members..
Claim 4 a A dowel as defined in claim 1 where in asecond internal 6crew integral with the other end of the splined drive adapted to be driven be youMthe other end of the tubular section..
Claim 5 A dowel as defined in anyone of the above claims where the dowel is made of plastic or any other suitable material..
30 e.
Claim 6 A method of joining timbers members using the tubular dowel defined in any one of the claims 1 to 5 comprising the steps a drilling a hole to inserting the dowel in the timber members to be joined.
b inserting the internal screws integral with the splined drive S section and space washers in the tubular section of the dowel.
c )applying friction glue on the outer surface of the steel dowel.
d placing the dowel in holes all ready made to receive it in the timber members to be joined.
e turning the splined drive section of the dowel making the screws thread into the timber members unti I the screws are lock up against the end stops.
f varying lengths and diameters of steel dowels to suit timber joint requirerments..
