SPECIFICATION
TIRE MOUNTING APPARATUS TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an apparatus for mounting inner and outer tires on a wheel hub, and more particularly to an apparatus for mounting double tires wherein two tires are mounted adjacently on each side of a wheel hub.
BACKGROUND ART OF THE INVENTION As the prior art tire mounting apparatus of the kind specified, there is known a tire mounting apparatus wherein, as shown in Fig. 1, an inner plate 2 of a wheel hub 1 has an engaging portion 3 formed integrally on the outtr peripheral portion thereof, the engaging portion 3 is adapted to be held in contact with an engaging/receiving portion 6 formed on a rim 5 of an inner tire 4, a rim 9 of an outer tire 8 is fitted in an outer plate 7 of the wheel hub 1, a cylindrical spacer 10 is fitted in between an inner surface 9a of the outer tire rim 9 and an outer surface of the inner tire rim 5, an inner leading end portion 1?a of the cylindrical retainer member 12 is held in contact with an engaging portion 11 of the outer tire rim 9, clamps 15 are held in contact with the outer end face of a basic end portion 12b of the retainer member 12, and bolts 14 are tightened to urge the clamps 1 against a reduction gear casing 13 to thereby urging the inner leading end portion 12a of the retainer member 12 against the engaging/receiving portion 11 of the outer tire rim 9.
In such a prior art tire mounting apparatus, since the clamps 15 are tightened to urge the retainer member 12 against the engaging/receiving poriton 11 of the outer tire rim 9 so as to push the inner tire rim 5 through the pacer 10 to thereby urge the engaging/receiving portion 6 of the inner tire rim against the engaging portion 3 formed on the wheel hub 1, if the clamps 15 are not tightened strongly, it is impossible to holds the engaging/receiving portion 6 of the inner tire rim in pressure contact with the engaging portion 3 of the wheel hub 1 and also hold the engaging/receiving portion 11 of the outer tire rim 9 in pressure contact with the inner leading end portion 12a of the retainer member. Therefore, not only a high lightening torque is required to be applied, but also if the bolts 14 are not tightened again after the vehicle is run over some distance after mounting of tires in position, and the inner and outer rims and 19 are caused to move slightly relative to the wheel hub 1, it is impossible to hold the above-mentioned component parts in pressure contact in satisfactory conditions. Therefore, very troublesome operations are required to mount and dismount tires.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The prsent invention has been made in view of the abovementioned circumstances in the prior art, and has for its object 2 r to provide a tire mounting apparatus wherein inner Hnd outer tire rim-- can be urged securely against an anchor portion formed on an inner plate of a wheel hub and a spacer with tightening forces less than those required in ease of the prior art apparatus, retightening operation is not required, and tire mounting and dismountiig operations can be performed very easily.
To achieve the above-mentioned object, according to the present invention, there is provided a tire mounting apparatus having a wheel hub, inner and outer tire rims disposed on the inner and outer sides, respectively, of the wheel hub, and a cylindrical spacer interposed between these rims and disposed on the outer peripheral side of the wheel hub, characterized in that, it comprises, for urging an engaging/ receiving portion formed on the outer peripheral end portion of the inner tire rim against an engaging portion formed on the inner peripheral surface of l:he wheel hub, inner clamps adapted to be held in contact with the outer peripheral end surface of the inner tire rim and engaged with an inner plate of the wheel hub by means of first tightening means; a cylindrical retainer member adapted to be held in contact with an engaging portion formed on the inner peripheral end portion of the outer tire rim; and also comprises, for holding the outer tire rim in pressure contact with the spacer, outer clamps adapted to be held in contact with the outer perripheral end portion of the retainer member and engaged with an outer plate of the wheel hub by means of second tightening 3
T
Si i means.
According to the above-mentioned aspect of the present invention, since the inner and outer tire rims are fixedly secured individually by the inner and outer clamps, these clamps can be tightend by tightening forces less than those required in the case of the prior art apparatus, and setightening operations are unnecessary, and therefore tire mounting and dimounting operations can be made very easily.
The above-mentioned and other objects, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from the following description and the accompanying drawings in which a preferred embodiment incorporating the principles of the present invention is shown.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a schematic, longitudinal sectional a prior art tire mounting portion; Fig. 2 is a schematic, longitudinal sectional one embodiment of the present inveniton; and Fig. 3 is a view showing the embodiment shown looking in the direction shown by arrow.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT view showing view showing in Fig. 2 k1 A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described below with reference to the accompanying drawings.
(Figs. 2 and 3) In Fig. 2 which shows a schematic, longitudinal section of 4 a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the basic construction thereof is similar to that of the prior art embodiment shown in Fig. 1 and the same component parts thereof are indicated with the same reference numerals, and the description thereof is omitted herein to avoid duplication of explanation.
As shown in Fig. 2, the intermediate portion of an outer plate 7 of a wheel hub 1 is formed integrally with a reduction gear casing 13, and the outer plate 7 has a thick-walled outer peripheral poriton 7a formed with a plurality of circumferentially spaced screw-threaded holes 16. Further, a bolt 17 is screwed in each of the screw-threaded holes 16, and an outer clamp 19 is fitted to each of the bolts 17, and then a nut 18 is threadably engaged from outside with the end portion of each bolt 17 so as to tighten each of the outer clamps 19, thus urging a retainer member 12 against the axial inside portion of the wheel hub 1.
The above-mentioned wheel hub 1 has an inner plate 2 whose thick-walled outer peripheral portion 2a has a plurality of circumforentially spaced screw-threaded holes 20 formed therethrough.
Then, a bolt 21 is screwed in each of the screw-threaded holes and then an inner clamps 23 is fitted to each of the bolts 21, and further a nut 22 is threadably engaged from outside with the end portion of each of the bolts 21 so as to tighten up each of the inner clamps 23, thus urging an engaging/receiving portion 6 formed on a rim 5 of an inner tire 4 against an engaging portion 3 formed integrally on the wheel hub 1.
5 Further, as shown in Fig. 3, the outer clamps 19 and the inner clamps 23 are disposed in circumferentially staggered relationship with one another, and the outer peripheral portion 7a of the outer plate 7 has notches 24 formed in the portions thereof opposite to the inner clamps 23. The formation of such notches 24 enables tightening and loosening of the nuts 22 for the inner clamps 23 to be made readily.
