Abstract

The instruments have one or two continuous tubes/channels, from the instrument tip (distal part) to the outlet point, which can be situated at the other (proximal) instrument end or at another point in the instrument. The tip (distal part) of the instrument can have different shapes depending on its purpose, such as, for example, scraper, spoon, scaler, cutter, point, spatula. The other instrument parts can be designed freely depending on their purpose and can have different shapes, dimensions and sizes. For example, treatment instruments of cannula-like shape are particularly well suited for the treatment of abscesses and periodontal disorders or wounds. The instruments are attached to a grip, holder or tube and are connected to a suction unit. Each of these instruments can have in one position an opening in the tube/channel for suction regulation. <IMAGE>

Complete Specification for the invention entitled: "DENTAL TREATMENT INSTRUMENTS WITH SUCTION AND RINSING DEVICE" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us This form may be completT and filed after the filing of a patent tio n but the form-,rnit not be siqned until after it has been Ia- DENTAL TREATMENT INSTRUMENTS WITH SUCTION AND RINSING
DEVICE
The invention concerns dental instruments devices for suction and/or rinsing, provided with a canal system in the shape of a suction pipe and/or a rinsing pipe to be applied as multi-use instruments, particularly in the fields of oral surgery and parodontology. Aside from its intended exploitability, the instruments can be used for rinsing and/or for the suction and the removal of undesired hard and soft tissue, tissue debris, other particles, I t sanguineous necrotic and purulent masses. The instruments S" as such can be attached to any apparatus and/or suction unit, whereby they can be used in dental as well as in human and veterinary medicine.
In dental medicine and especially oral surgery and parondontology, treatment instruments have long been present in various shapes and for specific applications such as scraping, detaching, erasing or removal of teeth and roots; however, none of those instruments disposes of c C c 7cc V a proper canal system for the simultaneous cleansing by means of suction and/or the simultaneous rinsing of the Streatment area. (Dental Katalog, Carl Martin, 5650 Solingen; Dental Katalog Aesculap-Werke, 7200 Tuttlingen/W. Germany and various Dental catalogs in the Many known instruments no longer comply with the most recent treatment demands. All those instruments are made- for one distinct treatment phase, so that one treatment necessitates additional measures, instruments, and auxiliary means, which is rather disadvantageous to 1.4 2 the course of treatment, to the practitioner as well as to the patient.
The invention's task lies in providing treatment instruments with a suction device as well as/or a rinsing device in order that the variety of instruments and auxiliary means required to date may be reduced and that the course of treatment may be simplified and shortened, thus significantly improving the therapy by means of instrumental treatment in such a way that, during the application of the treatment instruments, the suction and/or rinsing devices of the invention can be attached to It t any suction unit and/or apparatus.
t r t The invention provides treatment instruments with t suction and/or rinsing devices provided with a canal and/or pipe, especially in dental instruments which, for Sexample, can be used for scraping, erasing, curettage, removing of dental roots, cleansing or smoothing having shapes in accordance with their use, such as in form of a spoon, curette, root elevator, spatula, tweezer, shapes 20 for tooth cleaning and the like. Each of the instruments
U.
of the invention can be attached as a multi-use instrument to any suction unit and/or apparatus, thus being able to remove by suction, if necessary, parts of hard and soft tissue, blood, saliva, necrotic and purulent masses, dental root and other particles from the treatment area, as would be the case, for example, with a specific shape such as a scraper or root elevator. Each one of these treatment instruments with suction device of the invention can be used in its given shape at any time and unconditionally even without being attached to a suction unit. The 3 instrument provided with a pipe and/or canal of the invention can, when properly attached, be also used for the introduction of liquids or for the simultaneous rinsing of the treatment area.
The instruments of the invention are provided with at least one continuous canal or duct extending from the tip of the instrument to its opposite end or to any intermediate point of the instrument. The tip of the instrument can be shaped differently and according to its use and can be made, for example, as a scraper, spoon, hoe, cutter, point, spatula or other shape. It can also be coated. The Sremaining instrument parts can be designed freely according to their use and can show various shapes, dimensions and sizes. For the treatment of abscesses and parodontal disease or wounds, for example, an instrument in the shape of a cannula has shown to be especially suitable, whereby it can be attached to a different handpiece, holder or suction device or apparatus. Each one of these instruments can show an opening or hole at some place in or on the pipe/canal, for suction pressure regulation. The pipe/canal can, if necessary, be attached to the treatment instrument as an additional part and thus be designed as a removable piece. The treatment instruments with the suction and/or rinsing device according to the invention can be manufactured of various materials, such as metal, alloys, plastic, carbon-graphite, ceramics or any other suitable material. The various instrument components can be--made of various materials such as the ones mentioned above and/or can be prefabricated and can even be produced as disposable instruments or disposable parts and used as 4 such.
The following drawings shall further illustrate the invention and claims.
Preferred embodiments of the invention will be now described referring to the attached sheet of drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a suction and/or rinsing rootfinder according to the invention; Fig. 2 shows a modified embodiment of the rootfinder of fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a lateral elevational view of a suction and/or re SVr rinsing curette according to the invention; S' figures 4, 4a and 5, 5a are enlarged front and lateral views, respectively, of two different tips of the dental instruments shown in figures 1, 2 and 3.
J a l In fig. 1 a rootfinder 1 is shown, comprising a handle 2 and a tip 3. A canal or duct 4 is provided inside the instrument 1, extending longitudinally from a hole provided at the free end of the tip 3 to the opposite end 6 of the instrument, i.e. the rear end of the handle 2.
£44 t The duct 4 extends outwardly with a pipe-fitting 7 for connection to a suction and/or rinsing pump (not shown).
A transversal duct 8, communicating with the longitudinal duct 4, is provided inside the handle 2. The duct 8 opens outwardly throtgh a hole 9, which may be partially or completely closed, in order to adjust the sue-tion pressure. Alternatively, valve means may be provided in the duct 8, in order to open and close -such duct.
I
5 The rootfinder shown in fig. 2 differs from that of fig. 1 only for the fact that the duct 4 extends from the ,&oenad -eX5 to an intermediate point of the instrument, where the pipe-fitting 7 is provided. In fig. 2 the same reference numerals of fig. 1 have been used.
The rootfinders provided with the suction and/or rinsing duct 4, according to the invention, has, inter alia, the following advantages over the rootfinders of the prior art: removal of roots in a clear operating field; no dotting and haemostasis are necessary; J^ removal by suction of all particles from the periapical V and alveolar areas.
rC 9 In Fig. 3 a curette 11, having a handle 12 and an interchangeable tip 13, is shown.
A duct 14 is provide inside the instrument 11, extending from a hole 15 provided at the free end of the tip 13 to the opposite end 16 of the instrument, where a pipe-fitting 17 is provided.
