Actual Inventor: RHYS EDWARDS Address for Service:- Wray Associates Primary Industry House 239 Adelaide Terrace Perth Western Australia 6000.
Complete Specification for the invention entitled: "WATER SUPPLY ARRANGEMENT" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us:- 1 r S. 55 S 2 THIS INVENTION relates to a liquid supply for connection between a source of liquid and an outlet.
As a result of the requirements of various water authorities it has now become necessary to isolate appliances which involve the storage of water from the mains supply to ensure that water which has been delivered from the mains supply cannot re-enter the mains Epply.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a means of isolating a source of a liquid supply from an outlet appliance.
oeoeo2 In one form the invention resides in a liquid supply for connection to a source of liquid comprising a first reservoir and a second reservoir, an inlet opening into a delivery conduit which is connected to the second reservoir, the delivery conduit between the inlet and the second reservoir having an overflow outlet opening into the first reservoir, the second reservoir being at least level with or lower than the overflow outlet, said inlet being controlled by a first level sensitive valve sensitive to the level of liquid in the first reservoir, the first reservoir having an outlet controlled by a second level sensitive valve in the second reservoir whereby on the level of liquid in the second reservoir falling below a predetermined level the second level sensitive valve opens, the second reservoir having an outlet.
The invention will be more fully understood in the light of the following description of one specific embodiment.
The description is made with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a schematic arrangement of the water supply according to the embodiment i: -i ~rrr- M~Y f-- 3 The embodiment is directed to a water supply for a storage hot water system to facilitate filling of the storage hot water system from the mains supply.
The embodiment comprises a first reservoir 11 and a second reservoir 12 wherein the second reservoir 12 is closed and is located below the first reservoir 11. An inlet valve 13 connected to a mains water supply 14 is located in the first reservoir. The inlet valve 13 comprises a first float controlled valve associated with a float. 15 located in the first reservoir 11 which controls the operation of the inlet valve 13 according to the level within the first reservoir 11. The inlet opens into a delivery conduit 16 connected to the second reservoir 12 and providing for the delivery of water to the second reservoir 12. The entry i to the delivery conduit 16 is placed below the outlet of the inlet valve 13 to provide a weir like portion 17 which can overflow into the first reservoir 11 when the delivery conduct 16 is full.
The first reservoir 11 has a first outlet 20 which is controlled by a float control valve 21 associated with a float 23 and located in the second reservoir 12. The second float controlled valve 21 is connected to a drain 00 22 whereby on the level in the second reservoir 12 falling below a predetermined level the second float controlled valve 21 will open such that the water in the first reservoir 11 will be dumped by the outlet conduit 20 and the drain 22.
The second reservoir 12 has a second outlet 18 opening into the hot water storage system.
4 On the delivery of water into the delive.- conduit 16 from the inlet valve 13 water will continue- to be delivered into the storage hot water system via the second reservoir 12 until the storage system has been filled and will continue to be delivered to the second reservoir 12 until it is filled. On the filling of the second reservoir 12 the water will then overflow from the weir like formation 17 provided on the delivery conduit 16 to fill the first reservoir 11 until the first float 15 has risen to its uppermost level at which the first float controlled valve 13 is closed.
The first reservoir 11 is prnvided with an overflow conduit 19 which is connected to waste whereby on failure of the inlet valve 13 any excess water will be dumped through the overflow conduit 19. In addition in the 0000 event of expansion of water in the storage reservoir or first or second reservoir such water will be dumped through the overflow conduit 19.
Once the storage reservoir for the hot water system and the second reservoir 12 are filled the first reservoir o 0 will fill until the first float controlled valve 13 is 0*06 closed by the float 15 rising to its uppermost level. On consumption of water from the storage system the level in the second reservoir 12 will fall. On that level reaching a level at which the second float controlled valve 21 associated with the second reservoir 12 is opened the water in the first reservoir 11 will be dumped via the 0600 -o outlet conduit 20 and the drain 22. On the float 15 in the first reservoir 11 reaching a predetermined lower level the first float controlled valve 13 will open which will then refill the second reservoir 12 through the delivery conduit 16 to close the second float controlled valve and then subsequently fill the first reservoir 11 until the first float controlled valve 13 is closed.
I~
As a result of the embodiment the inlet of the mains supply 14 is isolated from the hot water storage system such that water from that storage system cannot re-enter the mains supply through the inlet 14. In addition water from the first reservoir 11 cannot enter the inlet 14 and cannot enter the hot water storage system in the event that the water so contained is contaminated.
If desired the second reservoir need not be closed. In such an instance it may be appropriate to incorporate a one-way valve in the delivery conduit. In addition the upper level in the second reservoir may be level with the entry to the delivery conduit. Furthermore the float S controlled valves may be replaced by any alternative form of level sensitive valves including those associated with activation means controlled by a sensor sensitive to the level of water in the respective reservoir, It should be appreciated that the scope of the present invention need not be limited to the particular scope of the embodiment described above. In particular the Sc". appliance may take any form of water storage or consumption device. Furthermore the invention need not be limited to use with a mains water supply or even a water supply but may be used with a supply of any liquid where the conditions require and/or permit.
