Sprtson Ferguson, Patent Attorneys Level 33 St Martins Tower, 31 Market Street Sydney, New South Wales, 2000, Australia Complete Specification for the invention entitled: Roller Shutter Which Can Be Fitted To The Inside Of Window Openings The following statement is a full description of this invention, nl:luding the best method of performing it known to me/us 5845/4 Li 2- The present/uit>' meodl reLates to a rolling shutter with an associated case, which shutter can be mounted in the inner part of any window opening.
It is known that any frame of a type suitable for a window, french window or the Like is generally provided with a rolling shutter mounted towards the outside of the building and serving as a darkening and safety device.
This installation is always carried out, however, with guides and container arrangements for the roller produced during the construction of the building.
This involves substantial working hours and, above all, equipment which is prepared from case to case, and in particular in the case of prefabricated systems with S 15 advanced preparation of the articles during their prod- 041 uction in the factory.
*o In recent years, with the advent of plastics, shutters have been produced from very lightweight sections, which therefore do not guarantee good resistance to forcing.
S.r The present invention therefore comprises a A 40 rolling shutter which, without any masonry work, can be fitted to the inside of frames, parallel to the wall.
It therefore comprises a case to contain the roller and the two lateral running guides in which the shutter runs. pre le'l The case also/comprises a pelmet-type section which permits the fitting of the running curtains which are traditionally present for aesthetic reasons in apartment windows. Finally, the roller can preferably but not necessarily be electrically controlled, as is essential in the case of metal shutters, which are notoriously very heavy to raise.
Another great advantage of the present invention is represented by the fact that protection against any intrusion from outside is much more effective than with traditional shutters, in that with the shutter lowered the frame can no longer be opened for the passage of a V 0, i I ^Bf_ i t 3 person.
One of the chief essential advantages is represented by the fact that the said roller entail;, no preparatory work in prefabrication, thus reducing the costs connected with the making of the frame.
It is clear that the said invention can replace the current external shutters or complement them for security purposes by adopting roller-type shutters.
In practice, such a shutter which can be fitted to the inside of windows will also be capable ot taking different forms, a .L of which come within the intven4''o scope of the present(utility mode--, which will now be described in some detail, purely by way of example and without limiting the scope of the invention, and with reference to the figures in the attached illustrative sheets of drawings, in which: Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a window to 0 0 which is to be fitted a shutter according to the present invention; Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of a window *o equipped with the shutter according to the present invention; 0a 0 Fig. 3 shows, in section and in profile, a shutter fitted to a window, according to the present invention; Fig. 4 shows a detail in section of the lateral guide installed on the internal edge of the window open i ng; Fig. 5 shows, in section and from above, a window equipped with a conventional external shutter and an internal rolling shutter according to the present invention; and Fig. 6 shows, in a front view, a window to which the present invention has been fitted, equipped with a rolling shutter of the security shutter type.
Referring to Fig. 1, the invention 1 in question comprises a case 2, which in the present illustration is :1 of the linked type, equipped with a pelmet 3 for S 4 curtains which is fitted along the lower section, and with two lateral guides 4 provided with holes 5 for their fitting by means of conventional expansion screws.
This entire assembly, as is apparent in Figs. 2 and 3, can be fitted to any window 6, externally parallel with the wall 7, the case 2 being mounted in the upper part 8 with suitable brackets 9 and containing the roller with any motor drive, and the guides 4 along the vertical lateral edges 11 of the window opening, as seen in Fig. 4. The shutter 12 will run along the said guides 4, and a conventional running curtain 13 may be fitted along the pelmet 3. The case 2 can obviously take various other forms to be matched to the characteristics of the furnishings, as can the curtain fitted thereto.
With reference to Figs. 5 and 6, the present s* invention can likewise be fitted in addition to the conventional external shutter 14, by equipping it with a roller-type shutter 15, for the purposes of greater protection against ill-intentioned persons from outside.
Finally, it must be stressed that the detailed 4 description of the present preferred embodiment does not restrict the scope of the invention thereto, but on the contrary it should be understood that numerous modifications, additions, variations or substitutions can be made to the present invention, without thereby altering either the spirit thereof or its purpose and without a. going outside its scope of protection, which is also defined in the attached claims.
Claims (4)
1. An internal rolling shutter apparatus for windows, which can be fittcJ to the inside of a window frame parallel to a wall, the shutter apparatus comprising a case for fitting to a top part of the window frame, two lateral running guides for fitting to opposite parallel side parts of the window frame, and a shutter which is movable between a first position where it is rolled up within the case and a second position where it extends down over the window, wherein side edges of the shutter are guided during movement by the lateral running guides and the apparatus can be fitted without requiring masonry work or preparations.
2. A rolling shutter apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the case comprises a pelmet for the Installation of curtains.
3. A rolling shutter apparatus according to claim 1 or claim 2 wherein, in the second position, the shutter limits the opening of a hinged window in the frame to an amount insufficient for the passage of a person therethrough.
4. A rolling shutter apparatus according to any preceding claim having an electrically-operable roller on which the shutter is rolled. A rolling shutter apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the drawings.
