Abstract
Described are SLAs for the performance levels of soft and mid-range lasers up to a maximum of 500 mW; these SLAs make the laser systems inherently safe and thus put them in a lower class of danger. Described are various SLAs with activating and operating lock-out devices which can be switched off by a reflected-light ranging sensor or by proximity switches or by sensor contacts for conductivity or by pressure sensors or by mechanical closure of the beam channel upon contact with or approach to the material to be irradiated. Realization, arrangement and material used in the sensor contacts are described. To enable the SLAs to be serviced, the laser system is provided with a safety service closure which keeps the laser system in an inherently safe state during the removal of the SLAs.
