Description

1 Brake assembly for Vehicle Wheels The invention relates to a brake assembly for wheels of vehicles, in particular of vehicle trailers, in accordance with the preamble of claim 1. 5 Removal of one or more axially slidable brake disps from a stationary brake caliper, due to wear or for other reasons, is effected in known manner by removing the brake caliper and subsequently demounting the brake disc. The invention has as an object to provide a brake assembly for wheels of vehicles, in particular of vehicle trailers, in which installation and removal of one 10 or more brake discs into and from the brake caliper, respectively, is accomplished in simple manner. This object is met in accordance with the invention by means of the features of claim 1. Additional, advantageous features are recited in the dependent claims. 15 The advantages which are mainly achievable with the invention are to be seen in that one or more brake discs can be taken off a wheel axle after removal of the wheel hub, whilst the brake caliper remains unchanged, that is with the brake caliper remaining installed. In order to achieve this, the brake pads of the brake disc(s) are removed so that the brake disc remains unsupported within the 20 brake caliper. In order to remove the brake discs it is in particular not necessary to first remove a blocking element for the brake disc, such as is provided for fixed/stationary brake discs using axially displaceable brake calipers. In order to prop the unsupported brake disc within the brake caliper, a support element can be fastened to the caliper, which can gripe the brake disc(s) 25 at their under side, such that the installation position is maintained. In order to remove the brake disc, the disc can be tilted on the wheel axle from a vertical mounting position into inclined removal positions, since a free space is created within the brake caliper following removal of the brake pads and separation of the disc's bearing on the wheel hub. In these removal positions, 30 propping of the disc is accomplished at least at the terminal end of the wheel hub. The brake disc is tilted into the inclined positions for its removal, such that it can be slipped past a front abutment wall of the brake caliper.

Claims (7)

1. Brake assembly for wheels of vehicles, in particular of vehicle trailers, having a stationary brake caliper (5) and herein guided brake pads (6 to 9) in between which is located at least one brake disc (3, 4) which is secured for rotation with but displaceable in axial direction with respect to the wheel, characterised in that, with demounted wheel hub (2) and removed brake pads (6 to 9), the brake disc (3,4) can be transferred within the brake caliper (5) from a vertical mounting position (I) into inclined removal positions (ii-v) during which the brake disc (3,4) assumes an inclined position within the brake caliper (5) that is free from a front abutment wall (5a) of the brake caliper (5).
2. Brake assembly according to claim 1, characterised in that with removed wheel hub (2) the brake disc (3,4) is propped in the vertical mounting position (i) within the brake caliper (5) by means of a support element (20).
3. Brake assembly according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the support element (20) is arranged for fastening at the brake caliper (5), and in that it comprises a shell (21) which is arranged to under-grip the brake disc (3, 4) and which is connected at the brake caliper (5) through an angled holder (22).
4. Brake assembly according to claim 1, 2 or 3, characterised in that a terminal end of the wheel axle (10) is provided with a protective sleeve (11) which extends into the location of the brake caliper (5) and the brake discs (3, 4) in their vertical mounting position (I).
5. Brake assembly according to claim 1, 2, 3 or 4, characterised in that the brake discs (3, 4) are supported in the tilted, inclined positions (II to v) on the protective sleeve (11) of the wheel axle (10) and are capable of being pulled out in these positions on the terminal end of the wheel axle (10) from the brake caliper (5). 6
6. Brake assembly according to claim 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, characterised in that a centering element (12) for at least one bearing (15) of the wheel hub (2) is located on the terminal end of the wheel axle (10), wherein the centering element (12) is located at a stop (13) of the wheel axle (10) and includes a forward facing bevel (14) and wherein the centering element (12) provides a zone g1aving the same diameter as the portion (16) of the wheel axle (10) adjoining it.
7. A brake assembly according to claim 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, characterised in that a portion (16) at the terminal end of the wheel axle (10) for reception of a bearing (15) of the wheel hub (2) is formed such that the bearing (15) engages the portion (16) before the wheel hub (2) comes into engagement with one of the brake discs (3).
