Abstract

The invention relates to a method and a device for transmitting short messages in communications networks. The inventive method advantageously enables the individually structurable content of short messages (SMS) to be transmitted to subscriber lines with analogue terminals. The content of the SMS is converted into signals in such a way that transmission to the analogue terminal is possible. A transmission in the opposite direction is also possible. Two components are required to carry out the method: a gateway for converting the content of the SMS into a suitable format for transmission to the analogue terminal and a terminal (TIX: Textual Information EXchange) for encoding or decoding the SMS content at the user end.
