Abstract
Skateboard Lock
This invention allows skateboarders to securely lock their skateboards into a
skateboard rack. The design can be replicated to allow multiple storage racks in a row,
to ensure many skateboards can be stored in one location. The racks can also be fixed
or mobile. The lock design is such that the wheels and the trucks of the skateboard are
secured to ensure they cannot be stolen by removing the trucks. Integrated caps move
up and down the rack spine to secure the wheels and the trucks of the board. The
locking mechanism can be an electronic locking system application design or
alternatively manually locked.

SkateLock
This invention is called SkateLock and allows skateboarders to securely lock their skateboards into a storage rack.
The rack can be replicated multiple times (attached together), or held individually, to allow a number of boards to be locked in a particular location. A location could have one or multiple racks like diagram 'A'. GPS and statelite tracking can be integrated to allow easy location recognition for the rack. Additionally, a mobile trailer/trolley can be added as the base (incorporated) or the racks could be simply placed on a trailer to allow them to be moved from one location to the next, so that additional SkateLock devices can be temporarily placed in a location to support large one-off events which are likley to attract many skateboarders.
The rack is designed to accommodate different skateboard sizes by positioning the wheel hooks at different points along the spine of the rack.
The mechanism to secure the skateboard into place, is an integrated cap (top and bottom) that slides up and down the rack shaft to securely cover the wheels and the trucks of the board, so that the wheels cannot be dismantled, thus preventing the board being stolen or removed. Caps are in place to cover both sets of wheels of the board, which are then attached to a back spinal frame that moves up and down the shaft of the rack by manual movement using the integrated handle to make all the caps move simultaneuosly up, or down. An additional lower level cap can be added to address longer boards and to go over the wheels of the skateboard that is in a longer position on the skateboard rack. (at position N). There are two hook positons at the botton of the rack. The top of the bottom two hooks is fixed and will deal with the standard sized boards. The bottom hook, of the bottom 2 hooks, is adjstable to allow variation in board size or length.
The design incorporates an electronic locking mechanism (at position G) which can be operated via a mobile phone application (app), QR code system or website system and bluetooth technology, or even an identity card such as credit card or ID card (a touch pad with chip technology or barcode or QR code display, located at position F or any other suitable position on the rack to accommodate the touchpad), which will allow the user to activate the locking mechanism once an account is opened for the user, via the app or QR code system or website system and bluetooth technology. It will also notify the operators of any unauthorised tampering of the skate racks. Multiple revenue streams can be generated, through charging to lock skateboards, advertising within the apps, QR codes, and websites and using the device to store rentable skateboards (manual as well as electric skateboards). The lock mechanism can be magnetically activated with positive and negative charges being delivered to the bolt lock via cabling within the rack shaft to the locking mechanism. Underneath the base of the unit are the wireless, wi-fi and electronic mechanisms to operate the locking device and to connect to the internet or mobile and bluetooth facilities. (at position E)
The design can be adapted to allow different types of locking mechanisms, from electronic locking mechanism as described above, or as an example, alternatively coin operated or even manually locked with a padlock or keylock. This design is unique to wheels and their bolts as well as the trucks, so as not to be tampered with to protect from theft.
The core of the design can be incorporated with further artistic design, which is sympathetic to the surrounding environment applicable to the location of the SkateLock. For example the rack can be incorporated into a 'Wave design' for beachside locations. When the skateboard rack is fixed to the ground, it could be design such that the rack itself can be stored below ground and 'pushed' to pop up for use above ground. Other design cases may include the racks being fixed to the wall instead of a base plate on the ground.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Diagram 1 details the key elements of the design
Diagram 2 shows different angles of the SkateLock configuration and design

H - The electric wire track where the wiring is located, connecting the locking mechanism to the electronic deives at the base (E) I - The back spinal frame to which the locking mechanism is attached J , M - An integrated cap (top and bottom) that slides up and down the rack shaft to securely cover the wheels and the trucks of the board, so that the wheels cannot be dismantled K - Spine of the rack L - Bolt lock for the preferred design that moves in and out the shaft of the electonic lock mechanism. N - Two bottom hooks, the top one is fixed the lower one is adjstable to allow variation in board size or length. P - Handle on the intergated Back spinal frame to move the back spine up or down Q- Front of the Back spinal Frame R - Locking slot in the spine of the rack to accommodate the locking mechanism
SkateLock can help mange risks associated with skateboarders damaging property or injuring themselves and others skateboarding in areas where skateboarding is prohibited. SkateLock provides a place for skateboarders to securely lock their skateboards when they enter premises such as shopping centres or event centres. They are also helpful for sakters to secure their boards when out and about in towns and public places. Multiple revenue streams can be generated, through charging to lock skateboards, advertising within the apps, QR codes, and websites and using the device to store rentable skateboards (manual as well as electric skateboards).
Claims (4)
- Storage rack for a Skateboard with at least one set/pair of hooks and one integrated cap that moves up and down a spine, which are used to secure and lock the wheel trucks of the skateboard, where the rack can have multiple hooks and an additional integrated cap to allow locking of both sets of wheel trucks, at different points of the spine of the rack, to also accommodate different size skateboards.
- 2. Storage rack as claimed in 2 where moving the top cap automatically secures both caps with the appropriate hooks, locking both wheel sets in one simultaneous movement, with one locking mechanism, to prevent tampering or theft.
- 3. Storage rack as claimed in lor 2 or 3 which can be replicated side by side to accommodate multiple skateboards and placed on a trailer unit for portable use.
- 4. Storage rack as claimed in r2or 3or 4 which can be integrated with an electronic locking mechanism which can be operated via a mobile phone application (app), QR code system or website system and bluetooth technology, Wi-F, GPS and satellite, or even an identity card such as credit card or ID card, through a touch pad with chip technology or barcode or QR code display to activate the locking mechanism integrated with the integrated cap mechanism, which locks the skateboard wheels.
