Abstract

The invention relates to a lawnmower allowing user to pull the toggle to lift the rear end of the catcher to empty its contents and continue mowing. The catcher is detachable from the lawnmower by disengagement of a pin.

The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing known to me:

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention of the Grass Tipper Catcher ('Invention') generally relates to lawnmower catchers.

BACKGROUND ART

Most lawnmowers have the attachment of a catcher or grass catcher (collectively referred to as a 'catcher') that is attached to the back of the lawnmower to collect the grass that the lawnmower has cut. The catcher can be removed from the lawnmower once the lawnmowing is finished or the catcher is full and can be moved to empty out the grass in another location. This assists in keeping the lawnmowed area tidy and allows the cut grass to be either disposed of or stored in another location for other uses such as compost.

Disadvantages of the traditional catcher are: * the action of having to stop the lawnmower and remove the catcher from the lawnmower when the catcher is full is a repeated task and can result in a lengthier time to carry out the lawnmowing and can result in a further adverse effect of causing fatigue to the person using the lawnmower; • it may be difficult for some people to bend down and remove the catcher and carry it to another location as the catcher can be heavy and awkward, which may result in limiting the number of people who are able to use the lawnmower and catcher and/ or result in injuries to people using the lawnmower and catcher; * risk of injury to the operator or nearby persons due to flying projectiles when a lawnmower is in use and the catcher is removed with the engine running.

The aim of this invention is to improve the catcher in a manner that addresses and overcomes the disadvantages raised above or provide a useful alternative.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The Grass Tipper Catcher ('Invention') provides the user of a lawnmower with an alternative to removing the catcher when it is full and requires emptying. The Invention provides the user of a lawnmower with an option other than removing the catcher and carrying the catcher to another location to empty the catcher. The Invention allows the user of a lawnmower to pull the toggle to lift the rear end of the catcher to empty its contents and to easily continue mowing. The Invention does not require the catcher to be removed and carried to another location to be emptied as the user is able to empty the catcher in the course of its mowing either in the current location of the lawnmower or in the preferred location it is being stored in. The Invention provides for an easier and more convenient method to empty the catcher.

The Invention assists in reducing the time required to mow, reduces the difficulty and awkwardness involved in removing the catcher and carrying the catcher to another location, reduces the risk of injury due to removing and carrying the catcher and the risk of potential flying projectiles and increases the number of people who are able to use the lawnmower and catcher. Including the elderly or frail persons where a 'traditional' catcher full of grass is too difficult to manoeuvre.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES/DRAWINGS

Figure 1 and 2 illustrates a lawn mower 8 with a catcher 1.

The catcher 1 has a mesh air vent 10 on its side as illustrated in Figure 9 and 4.

The catcher 1 is detachable from the lawnmower 8 by disengagement of the linch pin 4 as illustrated in Figure 9.

The emptying position of the catcher 1 is triggered by the toggle 2 being pulled as illustrated in Figure 10. The toggle 2 activates the pulley 9 which causes the rope 6 to lift the anchor point of the rope 3 on the catcher 1. In this raised position, as illustrated in figure 4, the cover plate 5 is automatically lowered by gravity allowing the grass to be emptied from the catcher 1. The toggle 2 can then be released to return the catcher 1 into the collecting position seen in Figure 11.

The rope 6 is connected to the catcher 1 at the anchor point of the rope 3 and the anchor point of the rope 11 as illustrated in Figure 11.

It is to be understood that the terminology employed above is for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

The foregoing embodiments are intended to be illustrative of the invention, without limiting the scope thereof. The invention is capable of being practised with various modifications and additions as will readily occur to those skilled in the art.

Accordingly, it is to be understood the scope of the invention is not to be limited to the exact construction and operation described and illustrated, but only by the following claims which are intended, where the applicable law permits, to include all suitable modifications and equivalents within the spirit and concept of the invention.

Throughout this specification, including the claims, where the context permits, the term "comprise" and variants thereof such as "comprises" or "comprising" are to be interpreted as including the stated integer or integers without necessarily excluding any other integers.

Claims

CLAIMS DEFINING THE INVENTION

1. A lawnmower catcher for collecting material output from a lawnmower comprising:

A container that is attachable to a lawnmower with an opening designed to receive the lawnmower's output.

A toggle that triggers a pulley to lift the catcher emptying the contents of the catcher.

2. The lawnmower catcher of claim 1, wherein there is an anchor point for rope at the rear of the catcher

3. The lawnmower catcher of claim 1, wherein there is an anchor point for rope on the mower's handles

4. The lawnmower catcher of claim 1, wherein there is a pivoting cover plate at the front of the catcher

5. The lawnmower catcher of claim 1, wherein there is a inch pin allowing detachment of the catcher from the lawnmower at the front of the catcher

6. The lawnmower catcher of claim 1, wherein there is a mesh air vent on the side of the catcher

7. A lawnmower catcher substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the drawings
