Abstract

A single use test strip that will determine if a person is dehydrated. The test strip includes pre treated ion exchange resins below a peel away label. The resins change colour when in contact with the person's expectorate and this colour can be compared to a chart provided with the test strip.

Description

EXPECTORATE DEVICE TEST FOR DEHYDRATION (SPECIFIC GRAVITY) We Test®: Dehydration The users expectorate on a reagent which changes colour dependent upon their hydration levels.

ABSTRACT [00031] This disclosure relates generally to We Test's goal to provide a user specific selftest that allows customers to simply test their dehydration with expectorate. We Test has identified its ultimate market as being the global market, with its initial target being the Australian market.
[00032] The intended purpose of the test is to detect general expectorate chemistry analyte, specific gravity via expectorate.
[00033] The intended users are lay persons - healthy members of the general public. We Test's kit will gain approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and has the following key differentiators:
• Designed to have a reagent below a peel away label;
• The test is for single use, personal testing;
• It is convenient, flexible and no need for Doctor involvement;
• Allows users to conduct the tests within the privacy of their own home [00034] Methodology-Specific Gravity: This test is based on the pKa change of certain pre-treated polymeric ion exchange resins in relation to ionic concentration. In the presence of an indicator, colors range from blue-green in urine of low ionic concentration through green and yellow-green in expectorate of increasing ionic concentration.
[00035] Expected Values-Specific Gravity: Readings of 1.000-1.025 would be considered normal. An adult on normal fluid intake could obtain specific gravity readings from 1.016-1.022, specific gravity decreases with increasing age.
[00036] Design Features: the test patch is simple and convenient to use. Simply peel away (see Drawings 1) plastic cover and expectorate on reagent. The measurements detected by each test can be easily interpreted by any person by visually comparing the colour of the reagent test area (after 60 seconds) with the colour chart printed on the pouch.

Claims (1)

  1. [00028] Invention of a test for use with expectorate. The users spit on or lick a reagent which changes colour dependent upon their hydration levels.
    [00029] A reagent will be below a peeled off piece of plastic; the user will expectorate on it to reveal result. Result guide with results will be on label for product.
    [00030] The hydration levels are determined by Specific Gravity.
