[25] Fig. 5 is a close up view of the rear right portion of the basket.
Description of Embodiments [26] It should be noted in the following description that like or the same reference numerals in different embodiments denote the same or similar features.
2015207881 02 Sep 2019 [27] Figures 1 to 5 show a basket 10 according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The basket 10 comprises a hollow generally rectangular prism shaped container 11 having a bottom panel 12, and lateral side walls 14, a rear side wall 16, and a front side wall 18 extending upwardly from the bottom panel 12. The side walls 14 to 18 define therebetween an upper rim 19 which provides a top opening 21, and an internal holding space 22 for receiving items such as groceries in use. The container 11 further comprises a lid 20 adapted to extend across the upper rim 19, to cover the top opening 21 and the internal space 22.
[28] The side walls 14 to 18 in one embodiment are semi-rigid or rigid, which maintains the shape of the basket 10 and the internal space 22. This also maintains the shape of the upper rim 19 and the wide open configuration of the top opening 21. The upper rim 19 is rectangular in the embodiment and defines a wide constantly open top opening 21.
[29] In another embodiment, the side walls 14 to 18 are flexible or collapsible which will allow the basket 10 to be collapsed for storage. In another embodiment, the side walls 14 to 18 can be resiliently stretchable at which the side walls 14 to 18 will lengthen when load is placed onto the bottom panel 12. In these embodiments, the upper rim 19 includes a means for maintaining its shape, such as a rectangular reinforcement bar to maintain the wide open configuration of the top opening 21.
[30] The lid 20 in one embodiment is completely removable. The lid 20 is attachable to the rear wall 16 via buttons 31, and removably attachable to the front wall 18 via magnetic means 33. First halves of magnets are disposed in the front wall 18 and second halves of magnets are disposed in the lid 20. An alternative attachment means includes hook and loop means (Velcro). Alternatively, both front and rear edges of the lid 20 can be attachable to the rear wall 16 and the front wall 18 via buttons, magnet means or hook and loop means. As a further alternative, the lid 20 can be permanently hingedly attached to the rear wall 16. The lid 20 can also be attachable to the side walls 14 for completely closing the basket 10.
[31] The basket 10 comprises an attachment means 40 for attachment to a pram/stroller 100. In the embodiment, the attachment means 40 is a flexible strap having respective ends attached to the lateral side walls 14. The strap 40 can also be used as a shoulder strap. The strap 40 can be looped over handle structure bars 102 of the stroller 100, with the container 11 hanging from the bars 102 and preferably resting against other lower sections of the stroller 100. The strap can also include rigid sections such as shoulder pads and thus be at least partly flexible.
[32] In the embodiment, the strap 40 comprises a buckle 42 for disconnecting a first side portion 44 from a second side portion 46 of the strap 40. This allows the strap 40 to be easily
2015207881 02 Sep 2019 looped around the bars 102 without having to lengthen the strap 40. Alternatively, the first side portion 44 and the second side portion 46 can be separately attachable to the respective bars 102. For example, ends of the first side portion 44 and the second side portion 46 can include a hook or bar attachment means for attaching to the respective bars 102. Each of the first side portion 44 and the second side portion 46 is also preferably adjustable in length. This will allows the strap 40 to be attachable and adaptable to different shaped and different dimension prams.
[33] The strap 40 also preferably comprises grip means for gripping the bars 102 of the stroller 100. The grip means in one example can include high traction or friction material (e.g. rubber patches) or bar attachment clips. The grip means will assist in retaining the strap 40 in position along the bars 102 and will thus assist in retaining the container 11 in an upright orientation.
[34] The container 11 also preferably includes level retaining means for retaining the container 11 in an upright orientation. The level retaining means can for example be a clip, hook or bracket of the container 11 which is attachable to an adjacent section of the stroller 100 in use to assist in retaining the container 11 in an upright orientation in use, particularly as items are placed in the container 11.
[35] The internal space 22 can also include compartments or dividers, which can assist in keeping tall items such as bottles upright, as well as insulated compartments for cold/hot items. The internal space 22 can additionally include a separate baby items compartment such that the basket 10 can also function as a baby bag. The container 11 can additionally include external pockets for the user’s items such as mobile phone and wallet.
[36] The embodiment thus provides a pram basket, a basket that a user can attach to their pram so that they can conveniently shop with their baby.
[37] The pram basket is a fashionable, foldable, durable, eco-friendly basket that can be used universally on most models of prams, allowing parents to walk to the shops with their pram or stroller. Once at the shops, the user will open up the pram basket and attach it to the pram and shop - without the hassle of balancing the awkward supermarket provided basket in one hand and steering the pram in the other.
[38] Unlike other shopping bags, the pram basket is attachable to the pram and provides a top opening which is retained in a wide open configuration, thus providing convenience to the user. Unlike other shopping bags, the user does not have to open the top opening when placing items in the pram basket or removing items therefrom.
2015207881 02 Sep 2019 [39] The pram basket can be made available in a range of modern fashionable fabric choices that are fade resistant, water resistant, and mould and mildew resistant, and can be easily cared for by wiping over with a damp cloth.
[40] The pram basket in the embodiment comes with a matching lid with inbuilt magnetic fasteners and its own matching carry pouch. When not in use, the pram basket simply folds flat and can be stored in the undercarriage/bottom basket of the pram. Upon arriving home, the pram basket can be removed from the handles of the pram and carried on the user’s shoulder via the strap which can be lengthened into a shoulder strap.
[41] The pram basket is also eco-friendly as it encourages people to not use plastic bags and to walk to the shop rather than drive.
[42] Whilst preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described, it will be apparent to skilled persons that other modifications can be made to the embodiments described. For example, the basket can be made in any size or other shape, such as round or oval shape.
[43] The embodiment is also shown for use with a stroller, but it is clear that the basket can also be used with other items such as wheeled transports including trolleys, scooters, and the like.
