Description

1 Description AUTOMATICALLY ADJUSTABLE FRONT BUMPER FOR CARS The following statement is a complete description of the invention at hand and illustrates the method of use which is known best by me: It is found that cars which are too low to the ground often find themselves scraping unnecessary surfaces and hence a solution to fixing this issue needs to be raised to create a better driving experience. An automatically adjustable front bumper for cars is my idea brought forward here which is an effective way to eliminate the harmful effects of scratching or cracking your front bumper on objects encountered through your daily driving habits. The design at hand here will have the same type of material as used today in cars however it will allow for a safer driving experience when approaching different surfaces on the roads. How this will work is that a series of sensors will be on the bottom of the front bumper which allows for the transmitting of radio waves to determine the distance between the front bumper and the surface it could possibly hit demonstrated in Figure 1. The idea is very similar to the use of parking sensors known as ultrasonic proximity detectors however if it is found that the front bumper is about to hit a certain object, an electric motor will raise the bumper to a new height which will in turn eliminate scraping or cracking of the body. The idea of two rollers located at the interior sides of the front bumper are also important as the mechanism here is to allow the front bumper to raise vertically and hence just like you would find with a sliding door, rollers are needed for this purpose as demonstrated in Figure 2. This links with the use of the radio waves and as an alert signal is present due to the potential collision between the front bumper and an object, a signal is sent to a microprocessor which activates the rollers immediately allowing for the vertical lift of the front bumper to produce a clearance height.
2 In Figure 1 as illustrated in the accompanied drawings, a car in a car park has a front bumper at a lower height than a wheel stopper and hence it is demonstrated that as the car approaches this object the radio waves emitted sense this and activate the rollers to lift higher than the object to eliminate collision. A few scenarios in this case include for example: - While driving at certain speeds in some cases your car may scrape a speed bump on the road due to the large height or angle of the given object and hence the use of sensors located at the bottom of the front bumper would reduce the harmful effects towards the bodywork. - Secondly, when driving a lot of the times going up or down steep driveways or ramps often scrape the front bumper and hence if these sensors send out radio waves to readjust the height of the front bumper this damage to the car will be minimised and thus less care and effort is needed in these situations. - Thirdly when parking your car in car parks for example, the wheel stoppers on the ground are often adequate in terms of height when reverse parking your car, however when you are driving front first, a lot of the time sports cars especially have the front bumper at a lower height than the height of the wheel stopper and hence it would usually hit as illustrated in Figure 1. In this case however with the use of sensors and an automatically adjustable front bumper, this is not a problem anymore and hence increases the driving experience and satisfaction.
