Description

AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INOVATION PATENT CARGO CARRIER The following statement is a full description of this invention, Including the best method of performing it known to me 1 CARGO CARRIER For many years traditional cargo transportation on a motor vehicle has formed either a roof rack, roof bars, Pods or combinations of either or. This invention has been specifically designed to be both the roof rack and the pod, When fitted to the car this invention sits flat on the roof and is used as a roof rack It can be used as a normal every day roof rack The bed of the roof rack being the roof rack cargo area is the panels that fold out and form the sides of the pod, Once folded out the sides form the side panels and outline shape of the pod. As per illustration 1-2 The roller door that is stored between the floor of the pod and the base of the structure is then pulled towards the back of the structure and forms the cover or roof of the pod As shown in figure 8 The back of the pod is also stored under the floor of the cargo pod as shown in figure 3-4 The structure of the pod is to be made of Aluminum and or polycarbonate (Engineering plastics) to ensure strength rigidity and shape. The Invention (Cargo Carrier) May Be better understood with the aid of the illustrations and diagrams shown * Illastration 1-2 are drawings of the cargo carrier looking from the top and rear. * Illustrations 3-4 show the cross section of the base and tailgate of the cargo carrier. + Illustration 5 shows carrier with the sides down. * Illustration 6 shows the carrier with the internal panels that form the top of the roof rack folded out to form the sides of the pod. Also shown in illustration 2. + Illustration 6-7 shows groove that roller door fits into when stored and in use. * Illustration 8 shows the side panels fully extended and roller door fully in place * Pictures 2 Abstract The Cargo carrier is in it's own right a roof rack and can convert to form a Roof Pod for the purpose of carrying luggage Picture 1 page 7 shows it flat as a roof rack Picture 2 page 7 shows it flat from the side angle Picture 3 page 7 shows it with the sides raised Half converted Picture 4 page 7 shows it with the roller door closed Picture 5 page 7 shows the view from the front with the roller door closed Picture 6 page 7 shows the view from the rear with the tailgate closed and unit sealed The Claims defining this invention are as follows 1. The cargo carrier is both a Roof Rack when flat and a Cargo Pod when erected as per in structions. 2. It is designed to fit on a normal car, four wheel drive vehicle, but specifically designed to provide luggage space for a vehicle with 7 seats and suited to a family. 3. It can be used flat for the purposes of transporting items such as a step ladder pipes or other items that you would use a normal car roof rack for. 4. The Pod once erected can be used as a cargo area for transportation to and from destina tions. It comes in to it's own in that once the roller door is in place the storage area can 5. easily be filled from the rear and does not require the person filling it to hold the container open whilst filling with luggage. 6. Once the user arrives at his/her destination the Pod can be emptied and collapsed back down to a roof rack allowing the owner the opportunity to visit shopping centers car parks etc, where there is a height restriction at the point of entry and exit. 7. It means that the cargo carrier can be left on the roof of the vehicle at all times allowing it's owner full access to height restricted properties i.e.: Shopping plazas and theme parks. The Cargo Carrier is designed by Trevor Laker Enterprise 14/12/2009 Part of the Laker Price Family Trust Dated Signed Trevor Laker 3
