Description
4301 -1.doc Multi water diverter (improved) Field of Invention Due to the current climate and subsequent lack of rainwater, water tanks are becoming more commonplace. Rainwater diverters have been designed in such 5 a way that when it starts to rain, the owner needs to divert water into the tank/s by manually selecting this option on the diverter. Once the tank is full, unless the diverter is re-set manually to allow water to divert to another tank or into the stormwater downpipe, rainwater is wasted as it simply overflows around the diverter which 'pools' beneath the diverter. 10 Summary of the Invention In one broad form the invention provides a water diversion tank for diverting water to two or more water storages, the tank having: at least one inlet; at least two outlets each for connection to a respective water storage, 15 wherein, in use, the water level in the tank must be above a first one of the outlets before water may flow out of the tank via a second one of the outlets. The first one of the outlets and the second one of the outlets may be located at substantially the same Level. The first one of the outlets may be below the second one of the outlets. 20 The water diversion tank may have: a base; 4301-1 .doo at least one side wall extending upwards from the base, and an internal barrier extending upwards from the base dividing the tank into at least a first portion and at least a second portion, the barrier extending upwards less than the at least one side wall; 5 wherein, said inlet is located to supply water to said first portion; said first one of the outlets is located to remove water in said first portion, and said second one of the outlets is located to remove water in said second 10 portion. The water diversion tank may have at least one inlet comprising a generally vertical passageway having: an upper end communicating with the interior of the tank; a closable Lower end, and 15 a location for supply of water to the passageway between the upper and lower ends. Unless the context clearly requires otherwise, throughout the description and the claims the words 'comprise', 'comprising', and the like are to be construed in an inclusive sense as opposed to an exclusive or exhaustive sense; 20 that is to say, in the sense of "including, but not limited to". This improved water diverter diverts water automatically to another tank or into the stormwater downpipe using it's simple, yet effective, design without 4301-1.doc -3 the need for human intervention. in one embodiemnt, as long as the tanks and the outlet points are beneath the top of the central divider within the casing, water diversion happens automatically. Detailed Description of Preferred and other Embodiments 5 The concept flow chart shows two options for inlet connections. Option one is to connect to the base of chamber one of the diverter (Shown as Inlet Option I on the Concept Flow Chart). The second option is for the inlet pipe to connect directly to the waste chamber (shown as Inlet Option 2 on the Concept Flow Chart) which reduces the likelihood of debris rising into the 10 chamber and into the tanks via the outlets. The waste chamber has an end capping with a tap or hose coupler for easy cleaning. The diverter alows a number of outlet points to be used. If the user wishes to use the first outlet cut-out and the second outlet cut-out as shown in the isometric view to fill two tanks, when both tanks are full, the water level 15 within both chambers witI be at its maximum where it reaches the overflow slots as shown on the front face, side view and isometric view. The user has the option to connect pipes to both overflow slots to divert water away to other tanks or to the stormwater system. The user can chose to connect as many outlet points as they choose so long as 20 they are vertically between Inlet Option 1 (or, if applicable, Inlet Option 2) and the first and second outlet cut-out. The inlet and outlet cut-out holes can be cut to suit all standard residential downpipes and water carrying pipes such as 110 mm diameter, 90 mm diameter, 100x80 mm, 100xu5 mm, 100x50 mm and o5x5O mm. 25 The casing can be manufactured from aluminium, stainless steel or from 4301-1 .doc -4 plastic and this is still to be finalised depending on results from independent testing The casing has a top Lid as shown in the top plan with arrised corners for opening. The side view shows the fixing plate which allows the casing to be 5 fixed to a metal fascia, wall or post.
Claims (5)
- 4301-1.doc -5 The claims defining the invention are as follows: 1. A water diversion tank for diverting water to two or more water storages, the tank having: at least one inlet; 5 at Least two outlets, each for connection to a respective water storage, wherein, in use, the water level in the tank must be above a first one of the outlets before water may flow out of the tank via a second one of the outlets.
- 2. The water diversion tank of claim 1 wherein said first one of the outlets and the second one of the outlets are located at substantially the same level. 10
- 3. The water diversion tank of claim 1 wherein the first one of the outlets is below the second one of the outlets.
- 4. The water diversion tank of any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the tank has: a base; 15 at least one side wall extending upwards from the base, and an internal barrier extending upwards from the base dividing the tank into at least a first portion and at Least a second portion, the barrier extending upwards less than the at Least one side wall; wherein, 20 said inlet is located to supply water to said first portion; said first one of the outlets is located to remove water in said first 4301-1.doc -6 portion, and said second one of the outlets is located to remove water in said second portion.
- 5. The water diversion tank of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein at least 5 one inlet comprises a generally vertical passageway having: an upper end communicating with the interior of the tank; a closable lower end, and a location for supply of water to the passageway between the upper and lower ends. 10 Dated 8 February 2010 Peter Maljkovic and John Maljkovic By their Patent Attorneys Acumen Intellectual Property
