COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention title: Lavatory bowl for a WC The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to us: Lavatory bowl for a WC The invention relates to a lavatory bowl for a WC, having a body made from ceramic or a similar material, which has a flushing rim which has a connection piece for connection of a flushing water pipe and can be connected, by way of a siphon arranged at a lower end, to a waste pipe.
Lavatory bowls made from ceramic are generally known.
To enable them to be flushed, they have to be connected to a flushing water pipe. This flushing water pipe leads, for example, from a cistern into a flushing channel, into which the flushing water flows before leaving the latter through openings at the bottom.
Furthermore, a lavatory bowl of this type has to be connected to a waste pipe. If the lavatory bowl also has a nozzle in the region of the odour trap for accelerating the siphon water, a further connection to a corresponding pipe is required. If a lavatory bowl of this type is wall-mounted, for example on a mounting frame, an additional difficulty during mounting is that the rear side of the lavatory bowl, on which the connections are to be made, is relatively inaccessible.
The invention is based on the object of providing a lavatory bowl of the type described which allows even simpler mounting.
In a lavatory bowl of the generic type, the invention is achieved by virtue of the fact that a connection part, to which at least one water feed pipe can be connected, is fitted into a rear recess of the body. In the lavatory bowl according to the invention, a connection part, which is in particular a plastic part, is inserted into the body, which is generally made from 2 ceramic, from the rear side. This connection part allows a standard connection to be produced for the lavatory bowls, which are supplied in a very large number of different designs. According to a refinement of the invention, a connection part of this type preferably protrudes at the rear side of the body and allows mounting by blind plug-connection. The invention therefore allows the mounting of lavatory bowls to be standardized and simplified.
According to a refinement of the invention, the connection part has at least one extension part which can be cut to length. This further enhances the ability to adapt to different mounting situations.
According to a refinement of the invention, the connection part has a flushing water connection part and, in addition, a nozzle connection part. These two, parts are preferably fixedly connected to one another.
This allows simple, reliable and fast connection to a flushing flow distributor, which has a first outlet for the flushing water and a second outlet for the water to the nozzle, which can be used to accelerate the trap water in the siphon when flushing.
The connection part is preferably prefitted on the body, which significantly facilitates the work at the installation site. It is likewise preferable for a flexible pipe, which is to be connected or has been connected to the nozzle, to be pre-fitted to the connection part.
Further advantageous features will emerge from the dependent patent claims, the following description and the drawing.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing, in which: 3 Figure 1 diagrammatically depicts a section through a lavatory having a lavatory bowl according to the invention, Figure 2 diagrammatically depicts the connection of a lavatory bowl according to the invention, Figure 3 diagrammatically depicts a view of a mounting frame with a mounted cistern and a waste pipe, and Figure 4 shows a section through a connection part.
The lavatory 1 shown in Figure 1 has a body 3, which in accordance with Fig. 2 is secured to a mounting frame 16 by way of a rear side 8. The lavatory 1 may as an alternative also be secured directly to a building wall. The body 3 is in particular made from ceramic and has a flushing rim 4 with a rim channel 4a, which is connected to a flushing pipe 12 via a connection piece 27. The flushing pipe 12 is in turn connected to a cistern 11 in accordance with Figure 2. The cistern 11 is, for example, a boxed-in cistern, and in particular a pressurized cistern. The body 3 has, in the usual way, a siphon 5 for holding trap water 26 which forms an odour trap. The siphon 5 is connected to a waste pipe 15, which leads away vertically or horizontally, in the usual way by means of a sealing gasket 14.
The flushing pipe 12 has a flushing flow distributor 13, which is only indicated here and feeds a predetermined amount of flushing water to a coaxial pipe 24 which is connected to a flexible pipe 7 connected to a nozzle 6 which is arranged in the region of the siphon 5. In the event of a flushing operation, this nozzle 6 accelerates the trap water 26 in a manner known per se and thereby allows flushing to be carried out using less water than usual. Therefore, some of the flushing water reaches the flushing rim 4, and another 4 predetermined amount passes to the nozzle 6. The flushing water from the flushing rim 4 cleans the inner side of the body 3, and after the flushing operation the siphon 5 is refilled with trap water 26. The flushing water leaves the flushing channel 4 in the direction indicated by arrow 28 in Figure i.
In accordance with Figure 1, the pipe 24 runs in the vertical region within the flushing pipe 12 and leaves the latter at a passage 25 which is provided with sealing means 29 which seal off this passage 25 with respect to the outside. After this passage 25, the pipe 24 runs in a bend and finally vertically in a horizontal pipe connection end 24a. This pipe connection end 24a runs parallel to a corresponding flushing pipe end 12a. The end 12a of the flushing pipe 12 has sealing means 21, allowing plug connection to an extension part 20. The extension part 20 is pushed into the end 12a, as can be seen.
For connection of the two ends 12a and 24a to the body 3, there is a connection part 10 which is inserted into the connection piece 27 in a rear recess 9 of the body 3. The connection part 10 has a flushing water connection part 17, which is tightly fitted into the connection piece 27 by means of a sealing gasket 18. On the inlet side, this flushing water connection part 17 is connected to the extension part 20, which can be plugged to a sleeve 19 and is tightly connected to the flushing water connection part 17. This extension part can be cut to length at the end 20a. The extension part 20 is in particular a shaped piece of plastic. As can be seen from Figures 1 and 2, it is pushed into the connection part 10 from the rear side 8. The extension part 20 is pushed into the end 12a, with the seal 21 bearing against the outer side of the extension part The distance between the outer side 20b of the extension part 20 and the rear side 8 can be set accurately by cutting the extension part 20 to length.
The extension part 20 therefore protrudes beyond the rear side 8.
Moreover, the connection part 10 has an integrally formed nozzle connection part 22, into which an extension part 23 is fitted and sealed with respect to the latter by a sealing means 30. Also formed integrally on the nozzle connection part 22 is a pipe piece or connection piece 22a, at which the flexible pipe 7, which connects the nozzle connection piece 22 to the nozzle 6.
The extension part 23 is preferably likewise a shaped piece of plastic and can be cut to length at an inner end 23a. The other end 23b has a larger internal diameter and accommodates a sealing means 30, in particular a sealing gasket. This sealing gasket 30 is pushed onto the pipe connection end 24a. The sealing means 30 can be accurately positioned by suitably cutting the nozzle connection part 22 to length. The distance D, showni in Figure i, between the longitudinal axis of the extension part 20 and the longitudinal axis of the extension part 23, is defined and corresponds to the distance between the two ends 12a and 24a. This forms a standard connection for the flushing pipe 12 which is independent of usually high tolerance deviations in the body 3. This allows bliid mounting or blind connection mounting, as will be clear from the following explanations.
Figure 4 shows a connection part 10' in accordance with one variant. It likewise has a flushing water connection part 17' and a nozzle connection part 22', as well as a sealing gasket 18'. A holder 34, which projects downwards and has a passage opening 35 into which a connection piece 36 of the nozzle connection part 22' is fitted, is formed integrally on the flushing water connection part 17'. As has been explained above, the nozzle connection part 22' is 6 connected to the pipe 7 at a further connection piece 22a', and moreover preferably accommodates an extension part 23.
The mounting of the lavatory bowl 2 is explained in more detail below with reference to Figures 2 and 3.
Before the lavatory bowl 2 is connected, the mounting frame 16 is secured to a building wall 32 and a building floor 33 in a manner which is known per se.
The mounting frame 16 fixes the cistern 11 together with the flushing pipe 12 and the waste pipe 15. The flushing pipe 12 is connected to the cistern 11 and is located between the cistern 11 and the waste pipe as shown in Figure 3. The positions of the two ends 12a and 24a with respect to the waste pipe 15 can be set accurately by suitable displacement of the cistern 11 and of the waste pipe 15. The distance D' between the centres of the two ends 12a and 24a corresponds to the distance D shown in Figure 1.
For the lavatory bowl 2 to be secured to the mounting frame 16, the latter has a cross-bar 16a, the height of which is adjustable and which has two threaded rods 16b, which are only indicated here. When- the lavatory bowl 2 is being mounted, it is placed onto the threaded rods 16b. At the same time as this movement, the extension part 20 and the extension part 23 are pushed onto the ends 12a and 24a, respectively. Likewise, during this operation, an outlet connection piece 5a of the siphon 5 is pushed into the connection sleeve 14.
Nuts which are not ,shown here are screwed onto protruding ends of the threaded rods 16b, and in this way the lavatory bowl 2 is fixed to the mounting frame 16.
If necessary, prior to mounting, the extension parts and 23 are cut to length in such a way that, after mounting of the lavatory bowl 2, as shown in Figure 1, 7 they connect the ends 12a and 24a to the flushing water connection part 17 and the nozzle connection part 22, respectively. Finally, the pipe 7 is connected at its front end to the nozzle 6, which is connected by way of a corresponding opening (not shown here) of the siphon This nozzle 6 may be prefitted. The same is true of the pipe 7, which is preferably flexible. The lavatory bowl 2 is then ready for operation. During a flushing operation, flushing water flows out of the cistern 11 or another flushing device into the flushing pipe 12, in which the flushing water is divided as mentioned above into a part which flows into the flushing channel 4 and a part which is passed to the nozzle 6. The cistern 11 is preferably a pressurized cistern in which the flushing water is under pressure. Consequently, the flushing water flows into the flushing channel 4 or through the nozzle 6 into the trap water 26 at increased velocity. This allows flushing with less water.
The connection part 10 with the extension parts 20 and 23 is preferably prefitted to the body 3. The extension parts 20 and 23 have a maximum length and are cut to length if necessary, resulting in a suitable depth of penetration at the flushing pipe end -12a and pipe connection end 24a. The pipe connections are therefore in each case plug-fitted and in principle require no further connection or joining parts.
